1 Disse ainda mais Eliú:

2 "Deixa-me continuar, provar-te-ei aquilo que afirmo;

ainda não acabei de defender Deus!

3 Dar-te-ei ilustrações sobre a justiça do meu Criador.

4 Vou dizer-te a verdade, com toda a honestidade,

pois sou pessoa com largos conhecimentos.

5 Deus é poderoso e, apesar disso,

não põe de parte ninguém!

6 Não poupa a vida do ímpio,

mas faz justiça aos aflitos.

7 Não desvia o olhar dos que são justos,

antes os honra, colocando-os sobre tronos reais, eternos.

8 Se estão presos a grilhões,

e a aflição os atormenta,

9 então dar-se-á ao trabalho de lhes indicar

as razões de tal situação, aquilo que fizeram de mal,

ou como se terão conduzido com altivez.

10 Ajudá-los-á a ouvirem a sua instrução,

a fim de se desviarem dos seus pecados.

11 Se o ouvirem e obedecerem,

então serão abençoados com prosperidade,

todo o tempo das suas vidas.

12 Se, pelo contrário, lhe fecharem os ouvidos,

perecerão no meio das lutas,

morrerão em consequência da sua falta de bom senso.

13 A verdade é que os ímpios colherão a ira de Deus;

mesmo agrilhoados, recusam-se a clamar por socorro.

14 Acabarão por morrer novos,

como jovens entregues à prostituição*36.14 O termo aqui refere-se a jovens e homens que praticavam a prostituição em templos pagãos..

15 Mas ele livra o aflito da sua aflição

e isto faz com que o escutem!

16 Também ele quer conduzir-te do meio da opressão,

para um lugar amplo, tranquilo e livre,

para a fartura da tua mesa cheia de gordura.

17 Porém, acumulaste sobre ti mesmo o juízo dos ímpios;

por isso, a justiça e o castigo estão sobre a tua cabeça.

18 Que a raiva não te leve a excessos,

nem te deixes seduzir pelas riquezas!

19 Pensas, realmente, que se gritasses com força,

ou se te esforçasses muito, isso poria um fim ao teu aperto?

20 Não desejes a noite

em que os povos se revoltam.

21 Desvia-te do mal,

pois escolheste isso em vez do sofrimento.

22 Repara, Deus é todo-poderoso!

Quem, melhor do que ele, sabe ensinar?

23 Quem ousaria dizer-lhe o que deve fazer,

ou dizer-lhe: ‘Cometeste uma injustiça!’

24 Portanto, engrandece-o pela sua obra,

que tem sido contada pelos homens.

25 São coisas que toda a gente vê;

de longe os homens as contemplam.

26 Deus é tão grande que ninguém pode pretender conhecê-lo.

Ninguém pode calcular os anos da sua existência.

27 Ele concentra o vapor de água

e depois transforma-o em correntes de água,

28 que as nuvens despejam em aguaceiros sobre os seres humanos.

29 Poderá alguém entender perfeitamente o caminho das nuvens

e os trovões dentro delas?

30 Vê como dispara os relâmpagos à sua volta

e como cobre os cimos das montanhas!

31 Com a chuva alimenta os povos,

dando-lhes recursos em abundância.

32 Enche as mãos com raios faiscantes;

lança cada um deles sobre um alvo certo.

33 O trovão anuncia a sua chegada

e o rebanho pressente a chegada da tempestade!
