1 Meu filho, se aceitares as minhas palavras e guardares os meus mandamentos, 2 se ouvires atentamente a sabedoria e abrires o teu coração para o entendimento; 3 sim, se quiseres melhor compreensão das coisas da vida, 4 e discernimento, se buscares essas coisas como se fossem dinheiro, ou um tesouro precioso escondido, 5 então entenderás a importância de temer o Senhor e chegarás ao conhecimento de Deus. 6 Porque o Senhor dá sabedoria! Das suas palavras vêm o conhecimento e a inteligência. 7 Ele garante a verdadeira sabedoria aos retos; é um escudo para os que andam com integridade; 8 protege-os para que a sua conduta se conforme com os juízos de Deus.

9 Só então saberás distinguir a justiça e a injustiça, o direito e o errado, e poderás tomar as decisões corretas em cada situação. 10 Porque a sabedoria penetrará no teu coração e o entendimento da vida será para ti uma fonte de alegria. 11 O bom senso te guardará e o entendimento te protegerá, 12 mantendo-te afastado de maus caminhos e de gente que fala falsidades. 13 São pessoas que se desviam dos caminhos retos de Deus para trilharem os tenebrosos, que só conduzem à maldade. 14 Ficam felizes quando praticam o mal; gozam intimamente com os seus pecados. 15 Tudo o que fazem é andar por caminhos errados e turtuosos.

16 Só a sabedoria pode proteger um homem dos falsos afagos de uma mulher leviana; 17 mulher que deixou o companheiro da sua mocidade e desprezou a aliança do seu Deus. 18 A sua casa e a sua vida familiar resvalam por um caminho de morte. 19 Todos os que a procuram estão condenados e impossibilitados de encontrar os caminhos da vida.

20 Portanto segue as pisadas dos que andam nos caminhos do bem; mantém-te nos trilhos da justiça. 21 Porque só os retos habitarão a Terra e os íntegros nela permanecerão. 22 Os malvados serão removidos da Terra; os infiéis serão tirados dela!

1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee; 2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding; 3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;*2.3 liftest…: Heb. givest thy voice 4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; 5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. 6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. 7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. 8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. 9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path.

10 When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul; 11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee: 12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil man, from the man that speaketh froward things; 13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness; 14 Who rejoice to do evil, and delight in the frowardness of the wicked; 15 Whose ways are crooked, and they froward in their paths: 16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, even from the stranger which flattereth with her words; 17 Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God. 18 For her house inclineth unto death, and her paths unto the dead. 19 None that go unto her return again, neither take they hold of the paths of life. 20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. 21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. 22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.*2.22 rooted: or, plucked up
