1 A sabedoria já edificou o seu belo palácio,

levantado sobre sete colunas.

2 Matou animais para o banquete,

misturou o vinho e preparou a mesa.

3 Já deu ordens aos criados

e mandou-os ir convidar toda a gente para que venha.

Ela clama a todos, desde os pontos mais altos da cidade,

e onde passa mais gente:

4 "Venham, aqueles que são simples,

sem muita inteligência!

5 Venham ao banquete da sabedoria

e bebam as finas misturas que preparei!

6 Deixem ficar para trás os insensatos e comecem a viver;

aprendam a ter entendimento!"

7 Se repreenderes um arrogante,

tudo o que podes receber, é desprezo;

quem censura o perverso, será insultado.

8 Por isso, não repreendas o escarnecedor, para que não te aborreça;

mas admoesta o sábio e ele te amará.

9 Mas uma pessoa esclarecida quererá bem a quem a corrigir;

um indivíduo inteligente, quando é ensinado, fica mais culto;

aquele que é reto fica com mais capacidades, quando o instruem.

10 O temor ao Senhor

é o fundamento de toda a sabedoria;

conhecer o Deus santo é alcançar o pleno conhecimento.

11 "Eu, a sabedoria, tornarei cada momento da vossa vida mais proveitoso;

prolongarei os anos da vossa existência."

12 Terás toda a vantagem em seguir a sabedoria;

mas, se a desprezares, terás de suportar as consequências.

13 A insensatez é como uma mulher escandalosa;

além do mais, é louca, e daí a sua ignorância.

14 Senta-se à porta de casa,

ou nos lugares mais altos da cidade.

15 Faz sinais aos que vão passando

e que seguem direito nos seus caminhos.

16 "Venham comigo!", diz ela aos simples,

sem muita inteligência!

17 "A fruta roubada é a mais saborosa;

maçãs trincadas às escondidas sabem melhor!"

18 E nem se dão conta de que os que antes foram com ela

são agora hóspedes do mundo dos mortos.

1 Wisdom hath builded her house, she hath hewn out her seven pillars: 2 She hath killed her beasts; she hath mingled her wine; she hath also furnished her table.*9.2 her beasts: Heb. her killing 3 She hath sent forth her maidens: she crieth upon the highest places of the city, 4 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 5 Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled. 6 Forsake the foolish, and live; and go in the way of understanding. 7 He that reproveth a scorner getteth to himself shame: and he that rebuketh a wicked man getteth himself a blot. 8 Reprove not a scorner, lest he hate thee: rebuke a wise man, and he will love thee. 9 Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser: teach a just man, and he will increase in learning. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: and the knowledge of the holy is understanding. 11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased. 12 If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple, and knoweth nothing. 14 For she sitteth at the door of her house, on a seat in the high places of the city, 15 To call passengers who go right on their ways: 16 Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: and as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him, 17 Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.*9.17 eaten…: Heb. of secrecies 18 But he knoweth not that the dead are there; and that her guests are in the depths of hell.
