1 Provérbios de Salomão.

Um filho sábio é a alegria do seu pai;

um filho insensato é a tristeza de sua mãe.

2 Os ganhos obtidos irregularmente de nada servem,

mas o viver com justiça livra da morte.

3 O Senhor não deixa ter fome aquele que anda na justiça,

mas contraria a ambição dos perversos.

4 As mãos preguiçosas levam à pobreza;

as mãos diligentes alcançam a riqueza.

5 Um moço inteligente saberá juntar durante o verão;

é uma vergonha ver gente nova dormindo quando deveria estar a trabalhar!

6 O que anda na justiça cobre-se de bênçãos,

mas os ímpios têm a boca cheia de violência.

7 Toda a gente se lembra, com gosto, dos que foram retos,

mas o nome dos perversos fica a cheirar mal, depois deles.

8 Uma pessoa inteligente aceita o mandamento,

mas o que só tem conversas insensatas tornar-se-á um inútil.

9 Quem anda com integridade, anda seguro na vida,

mas aquele que segue caminhos tortuosos virá a ser descoberto.

10 O fechar os olhos ao pecado só traz é tristeza;

o que só tem conversas insensatas tornar-se-á um inútil.

11 Há como que uma fonte de vida no que diz um homem reto,

mas a boca dos maus está só cheia de violência.

12 O ódio gera contendas,

mas o amor passa por cima das ofensas.

13 As pessoas com bom senso são pretendidas como conselheiras,

mas a vara da repreensão cai sobre o insensato.

14 As pessoas com entendimento entesouram sabedoria,

mas a boca do insensato anuncia a ruína iminente.

15 A riqueza do rico é a fortaleza dentro da qual se protege,

mas a pobreza dos pobres é a sua ruína.

16 Os ganhos do que anda com retidão conduzem à vida,

mas a retribuição do perverso é o pecado.

17 Aquele que recebe, de boa vontade, a correção está no caminho da vida,

mas o que a recusa desencaminha-se a si mesmo e aos outros.

18 O que encobre o ódio é um hipócrita;

o que difama o seu semelhante é um louco.

19 No muito falar há sempre grande risco de pecar,

mas quem sabe refrear a sua língua é sensato.

20 Aquilo que diz uma pessoa reta é precioso como a prata,

mas o coração dos perversos vale muito pouco.

21 Os retos podem dar conselhos a muita gente,

mas os tolos morrem porque lhes falta juízo.

22 A bênção do Senhor é que enriquece

e não traz desgosto algum.

23 Para o louco, o praticar o mal é uma brincadeira,

mas o homem com entendimento tem alegria na sabedoria.

24 Os temores de uma pessoa má vêm a realizar-se;

mas às esperanças do reto é Deus quem lhes dá cumprimento.

25 Quando as catástrofes rebentam, o mau é levado;

o que anda com justiça permanece para sempre.

26 Um preguiçoso, para quem o emprega,

é como o fumo para os olhos,

como o ácido para os dentes.

27 O temor ao Senhor aumenta o tempo da vida;

os anos dos perversos serão abreviados.

28 A esperança do homem justo traz alegria,

mas as esperanças dos maus são em vão.

29 O caminho do Senhor é o refúgio dos íntegros,

mas será a destruição de todos os que praticam a iniquidade.

30 O indivíduo reto nunca será abalado,

mas os maus não ficarão na Terra.

31 A boca do que anda com justiça revela sabedoria em abundância,

mas a língua perversa será cortada.

32 O que vive na justiça sabe falar do que é agradável,

mas a boca da gente perversa está sempre cheia de maldade.

20 The tongue of the just is as choice silver: the heart of the wicked is little worth. 21 The lips of the righteous feed many: but fools die for want of wisdom.*10.21 of wisdom: Heb. of heart 22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it. 23 It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.

24 The fear of the wicked, it shall come upon him: but the desire of the righteous shall be granted. 25 As the whirlwind passeth, so is the wicked no more: but the righteous is an everlasting foundation. 26 As vinegar to the teeth, and as smoke to the eyes, so is the sluggard to them that send him.

27 The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.*10.27 prolongeth: Heb. addeth 28 The hope of the righteous shall be gladness: but the expectation of the wicked shall perish.

29 The way of the LORD is strength to the upright: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity. 30 The righteous shall never be removed: but the wicked shall not inhabit the earth.

31 The mouth of the just bringeth forth wisdom: but the froward tongue shall be cut out. 32 The lips of the righteous know what is acceptable: but the mouth of the wicked speaketh frowardness.*10.32 frowardness: Heb. frowardnesses
