1 Outra mensagem do Senhor dos exércitos. 2 O Senhor dos exércitos diz assim: "Estou muito indignado! Sim, estou mesmo irado, por causa daquilo que todos os inimigos de Sião lhe fizeram! 3 Agora voltar-me-ei para Sião e habitarei no meio de Jerusalém, a qual será chamada Cidade Fiel, a montanha do Senhor dos exércitos, o monte santo."

4 O Senhor dos exércitos declara: "As pessoas idosas, tanto homens como mulheres, voltarão a sentar-se nos seus lugares em Jerusalém, tendo cada um nas suas mãos a bengala em que se apoia, por causa da muita idade. 5 Os rapazes e raparigas virão novamente em grande número às praças públicas para brincar."

6 Diz o Senhor dos exércitos: "Pode parecer inacreditável aos vossos olhos, um resto do povo, pequeno e desencorajado, mas para mim não é nada de mais! 7 Com toda a certeza que resgatarei o meu povo das extremidades do Oriente ao Ocidente, seja para onde for que tenham sido espalhados. 8 Hei de trazê-los de novo para viverem em Jerusalém; serão o meu povo e eu serei o seu Deus, guiando-os com justiça e com verdade!"

9 O Senhor dos exércitos diz: "Trabalhem com coragem, vocês que ouvem agora as palavras dos profetas que vos falaram, quando se puseram os alicerces deste templo, a fim de que fosse edificado! 10 Antes do empreendimento começar, não havia postos de trabalho, não havia salários, não havia segurança. Se tivessem de deixar a cidade, ninguém podia ter a certeza de regressar, porque cada um estava contra o seu semelhante.

11 Agora, já não tratarei mais com o resto deste povo, como no passado, diz o Senhor dos exércitos. 12 Semeio a paz no vosso meio. As vinhas darão o seu fruto. O chão será fértil e dos céus virá abundante orvalho. Todas estas bênçãos darei ao povo deixado na terra. 13 Assim como eram uma maldição entre as nações, ó povo de Judá e de Israel, assim vos salvarei e serão uma bênção! Não tenham receio! Trabalhem com coragem! 14 Fiz o que prometera, quando os vossos pais me enfureceram, e garanti-lhes que seriam castigados. 15 Por isso, agora também decidi fazer o bem a Jerusalém e a Judá! Não tenham medo! 16 Da vossa parte, é isto que devem fazer: falar a verdade e ser justos e honestos nos vossos tribunais. 17 Não conspirem para fazer mal uns aos outros! Não amem o falso juramento, nem a mentira! Todas essas coisas repudio severamente!", diz o Senhor.

18 Aqui está outra mensagem que veio até mim da parte do Senhor dos exércitos. 19 "Esses jejuns tradicionais e tempos de contrição coletiva, que realizam no quarto, quinto, sétimo e décimo mês, terminaram! Agora serão celebrações festivas, por isso, amem a verdade e a paz!"

20 Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: "Povos de todo o mundo virão em peregrinação a Jerusalém, originários de muitas cidades estrangeiras, para assistir a estas celebrações. 21 As pessoas escreverão umas às outras, dizendo: ‘Vamos todos a Jerusalém pedir ao Senhor a sua bênção sobre nós e que seja misericordioso para connosco. Venham todos já!’ 22 Sim, muita gente, mesmo das nações mais fortes, se chegará ao Senhor dos exércitos em Jerusalém, para lhe rogar a sua bênção."

23 Assim diz o Senhor dos exércitos: "Nesses tempos, dez estrangeiros agarrar-se-ão às abas do casaco dum judeu, implorando-lhe: ‘Queremos ir com vocês, porque sabemos bem que Deus está convosco!’ "

1 Again the word of the LORD of hosts came to me, saying, 2 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; I was jealous for Zion with great jealousy, and I was jealous for her with great fury. 3 Thus saith the LORD; I am returned unto Zion, and will dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and Jerusalem shall be called a city of truth; and the mountain of the LORD of hosts the holy mountain. 4 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; There shall yet old men and old women dwell in the streets of Jerusalem, and every man with his staff in his hand for very age.*8.4 very…: Heb. multitude of days 5 And the streets of the city shall be full of boys and girls playing in the streets thereof. 6 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; If it be marvellous in the eyes of the remnant of this people in these days, should it also be marvellous in mine eyes? saith the LORD of hosts.*8.6 marvellous: or, hard, or, difficult 7 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Behold, I will save my people from the east country, and from the west country;*8.7 the west…: Heb. the country of the going down of the sun 8 And I will bring them, and they shall dwell in the midst of Jerusalem: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God, in truth and in righteousness.

9 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; Let your hands be strong, ye that hear in these days these words by the mouth of the prophets, which were in the day that the foundation of the house of the LORD of hosts was laid, that the temple might be built. 10 For before these days there was no hire for man, nor any hire for beast; neither was there any peace to him that went out or came in because of the affliction: for I set all men every one against his neighbour.*8.10 there was…: or, the hire of man became nothing 11 But now I will not be unto the residue of this people as in the former days, saith the LORD of hosts. 12 For the seed shall be prosperous; the vine shall give her fruit, and the ground shall give her increase, and the heavens shall give their dew; and I will cause the remnant of this people to possess all these things.*8.12 prosperous: Heb. of peace 13 And it shall come to pass, that as ye were a curse among the heathen, O house of Judah, and house of Israel; so will I save you, and ye shall be a blessing: fear not, but let your hands be strong. 14 For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not: 15 So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.

16 These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:*8.16 execute…: Heb. judge truth, and the judgment of peace 17 And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.

18 And the word of the LORD of hosts came unto me, saying, 19 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; The fast of the fourth month, and the fast of the fifth, and the fast of the seventh, and the fast of the tenth, shall be to the house of Judah joy and gladness, and cheerful feasts; therefore love the truth and peace.*8.19 feasts: or, solemn, or, set times 20 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; It shall yet come to pass, that there shall come people, and the inhabitants of many cities: 21 And the inhabitants of one city shall go to another, saying, Let us go speedily to pray before the LORD, and to seek the LORD of hosts: I will go also.*8.21 speedily: or, continually: Heb. going*8.21 to pray…: Heb. to intreat the face of 22 Yea, many people and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem, and to pray before the LORD.*8.22 to pray…: Heb. to intreat the face of 23 Thus saith the LORD of hosts; In those days it shall come to pass, that ten men shall take hold out of all languages of the nations, even shall take hold of the skirt of him that is a Jew, saying, We will go with you: for we have heard that God is with you.
