1 Haja pois o que houver, meus irmãos, tenham alegria no Senhor. É verdade que estou sempre a dizer-vos a mesma coisa, mas não me importo, pois isso representa uma segurança para vocês.2 Cuidado com os cães, esses homens que fazem o mal, os que querem obrigar-vos à mutilação na carne.3 Porque nós, que adoramos Deus em Espírito, somos os únicos que são verdadeiramente circuncidados, confiando em Jesus Cristo, e não em ritos físicos.4 Eu bem poderia confiar nas minhas qualificações pessoais; não me faltam vantagens humanas:5 Fui circuncidado ao oitavo dia. Pertenço ao povo de Israel pela linha de geração da tribo de Benjamim, portanto, judeu cem por cento. Além disso fui fariseu6 Quanto a zelo, bem o manifestei na perseguição que empreendi contra a igreja. E na minha vida pessoal fui irrepreensível na obediência à justiça da lei.7 Mas tudo isso, que para mim era uma razão de orgulho, agora considero desperdício, devido ao que Cristo fez na minha vida.8 E vou até mais longe: nada há que se possa comparar com o valor imenso que representa o conhecimento de Cristo Jesus, meu Senhor. Por causa dele é que eu desprezei todas essas coisas, e as considero como lixo, na certeza de ficar a ganhar muitíssimo mais ao lado de Cristo9 Não confio mais na minha bondade ou na minha capacidade para obedecer à lei de Deus, antes confio em Cristo para minha salvação. Porque a maneira de Deus nos tornar justos diante dele depende da fé.10 Assim, eu posso realmente conhecer Cristo e experimentar o grande poder que o ressuscitou da morte. Posso aprender o que significa sofrer com ele, participar da sua morte,11 para que, de alguma maneira, possa também experimentar a ressurreição.12 Bem sei que não sou perfeito, que não cheguei ainda a essa meta. Mas prossigo na minha carreira, fazendo tudo o que é preciso até chegar a esse dia, pois que foi para isso mesmo que Cristo me cativou.13 Repito, irmãos, eu não penso que tenha atingido esse alvo, mas uma só coisa me interessa, e é que, esquecendo as dificuldades do passado, avanço para o fim que está proposto diante de mim14 Prossigo assim para o alvo, tendo em vista a recompensa a receber no céu, por Cristo Jesus.15 Todos nós que já somos adultos na fé vamos concordar nestas coisas. E se num ponto ou noutro a vossa opinião for diferente, seja como for, Deus vos manifestará a sua vontade.16 Mas, em relação às convicções que nos são comuns, avancemos juntos.17 Peço-vos também, irmãos, que sejam meus imitadores, e aprendam daqueles que conduzem as suas vidas de acordo com a nossa.18 Porque já vos disse e agora repito-o com lágrimas nos olhos: há muitos que se conduzem como inimigos da cruz de Cristo.19 O futuro deles é a perdição eterna. Têm por deus os seus próprios apetites. Têm orgulho naquilo de que deveriam até envergonhar-se. Todos os seus pensamentos giram à volta do que é terreno.20 Mas quanto a nós, a nossa pátria está no céu, donde esperamos que há-de voltar o nosso Salvador, o Senhor Jesus Cristo,Ò21 o qual, nessa altura, transformará os nossos fracos corpos mortais, para os tornar semelhantes ao seu próprio corpo glorioso. Ele tem o poder necessário para isso, devido à sua capacidade de sujeitar a si mesmo todas as coisas.

1 Finally, my brothers, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you{+}, to me indeed is not irksome, but for you{+} it is safe.2 Beware of the dogs, beware of the evil workers, beware of the concision:3 for we are the circumcision, who worship by the Spirit of God, and glory in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh:4 though I myself might have confidence even in the flesh: if any other man thinks to have confidence in the flesh, I yet more:5 circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; as concerning the law, a Pharisee;6 as concerning zeal, persecuting the church; as concerning the righteousness which is in the law, found blameless.7 Nevertheless what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ.8 But on the contrary, I also count all things to be loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I suffered the loss of all things, and regard them as crap, that I may gain Christ,9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own, [even] that which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith:10 that I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed to his death;11 if by any means I may attain to the resurrection from the dead.12 Not that I have already obtained, or am already made perfect: but I press on, if also I may lay hold on that for which also I was laid hold on by Christ Jesus.13 Brothers, I don't count myself to have laid hold: but one thing [I do], forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before,14 I press on toward the goal to the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.15 Let us therefore, as many as are perfect, be thus minded: and if in anything you{+} are otherwise minded, this also God will reveal to you{+}:16 only, to what we have attained, by that same [rule] let us walk.17 Brothers, be{+} imitators together of me, and observe those who so walk even as you{+} have us for an example.18 For many walk, of whom I told you{+} often, and now tell you{+} even weeping, [that they are] the enemies of the cross of Christ:19 whose end is perdition, whose god is the belly, and [whose] glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.20 For our citizenship is in heaven; from where we also wait for a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ:21 who will fashion anew the body of our humiliation, [that it may be] conformed to the body of his glory, according to the working by which he is able even to subject all things to himself.
