1 Ai de ti, que tens prazer em te levantares de noite, para tecer conspirações de maldade; sais de madrugada para dar cumprimento aos esquemas que ardilaste; tens a oportunidade de o fazer e fazes mesmo.2 Pretendes um determinado pedaço de terra, ou a casa de uma pessoa qualquer - ainda que seja tudo o que ela possui; e consegues obter o que queres, à força de falsidade e violência.3 Mas o Senhor Deus diz-te: Receberás maldade em recompensa da tua maldade; nada me poderá deter. Nunca mais tornarás a ser orgulhoso e altivo, pensando que eu estou do teu lado.4 Os teus adversários rir-se-ão de ti e farão mofa do teu desespero. Vocês dirão: Estamos perdidos, arruinados. Deus confiscou-nos a terra e mandou-nos para o fim do mundo; o que era nosso, deu-o a outros.,5 Sim, com efeito serão outros que delimitarão as vossas fronteiras. O povo de Senhor passará a viver onde os outros quiserem.6 Não digas essas coisas, clama o povo. Não insistas com coisas semelhantes. É desagradável, uma conversa dessas. Nunca semelhantes males nos poderiam acontecer!7 Será essa resposta que se espera de vocês, ó casa de Jacob? E, por outro lado, pensam que o Espírito do Senhor fica satisfeito em ter de vos falar tão asperamente? Não! As acusações que vos faz é porque quer o vosso bem, porque pretende levar-vos de novo ao caminho recto.8 O Senhor diz: Mesmo aagora o meu povo levanta-se contra mim. Porque roubam descaradamente daqueles que confiam em vocês, que caminham em paz.9 Expulsaram as viúvas das suas casa; roubaram aos seus meninos os direitos que Deus lhes dava.10 Levantem-se! Vão-se embora! Aqui já não é mais o vosso lar; encheram isto tudo de corrupção.11 Eu vos pregarei as alegrias do vinho, as alegrias da bebida - é essa a espécie de profecias que gostariam de ouvir aos vossos profetas beberrões e mentirosos!12 Mas há-de vir o tempo, ó Israel, em que vos juntarei - os que restam - vos trarei todos como cordeiros num rebanho, como um rebanho nas pastagens - será uma multidão barulhenta e feliz13 Alguém irá adiante abrir o caminho e vos trará do exílio e vos fará sair pelas portas das cidades do vosso cativeiro, regressando à terra pátria. O vosso rei irá à frente - o Senhor vos conduzirá.

1 Woe to those who devise iniquity and work evil on their beds! When the morning is light, they do it, because it is in the power of their hand.2 And they covet fields, and seize them; and houses, and take them away: and they oppress a [noble] man and his house, even a man and his heritage.3 Therefore thus says Yahweh: Look, I devise an evil against this family, from which you{+} will not remove your{+} necks, neither will you{+} walk haughtily; for it is an evil time.4 In that day they will take up a parable against you{+}, and lament with a doleful lamentation, [and] say, We are completely ruined: he exchanges the portion of my people: how he removes [it] from me! In order to make restitution, he divides our fields.5 Therefore you will have none who will cast the line by lot in the assembly of Yahweh.6 Do not prophesy{+}, [thus] they prophesy. They will not prophesy to these: reproaches will not depart.7 Will it be said, O house of Jacob, Is the Spirit of Yahweh straitened? Are these his doings? Do not my words do good to him who walks uprightly?8 Even yesterday my people rose up as an enemy: in front of a cloak you{+} strip the glory from those who pass by securely, being averse to war.9 The women of my people you{+} cast out from their pleasant houses; from their young children you{+} take away my glory forever.10 Arise{+}, and depart; for this is not your{+} resting-place; because of uncleanness that destroys, even with a grievous destruction.11 If a man walking after the wind and producing lies, lies, [saying], I will prophesy to you of wine and of strong drink; he will even be the prophet of this people.12 I will surely assemble, O Jacob, all of you; I will surely gather the remnant of Israel; I will put them together as the sheep of Bozrah, as a flock in the midst of their pasture; they will make great noise by reason of man.13 The breaker has gone up before them: they have broken forth and passed on to the gate, and have gone out of it; and their king has passed on before them, and Yahweh at the head of them.
