1 Hear ye this word, ye heifers of Bashan, that are in the mountain of Samaria, who oppress the poor, who crush the needy,who say to their lords, Bring in, and let us drink!2 Sworn hath My Lord, Yahweh, by his own holiness, That lo! days, are coming upon you,when he will take you away with hooks, and your followers with fishhooks;3 And, through fissures, shall ye go out, every woman, straight before her,and ye shall be thrust forth towards the castle, Declareth Yahweh.4 Enter ye Bethel, and transgress, At Gilgal, cause transgression, to abound,Yea, carry in, every morning, your sacrifices, every three days, your tithes;5 Yea, burn thou incense, of that which is leavened, as a thank-offering, and proclaim ye freewill-offerings, let them be known,for, so, ye love6 Moreover also, I, have given you cleanness of teeth throughout all your cities, and want of bread throughout all your dwelling-places,Yet have ye not returned unto me, Declareth Yahweh.7 Moreover also, I, have withholden from you the abundant rain, when yet there were only three mouths to the harvest, Or I might rain upon one city, and, on another city, might not rain,One portion, would be rained upon, and, the portion whereupon it should not rain, would be dried up;8 Then would two or three cities totter to one city to drink water, without being satisfied,Yet have ye not returned unto me, Declareth Yahweh.9 I have smitten you with blight and with mildew, When your gardens and your vineyards and your fig-trees and your olive-trees have increased, the creeping locust would devour them,Yet have ye not returned unto me, Declareth Yahweh.10 I have sent among you pestilence, in the manner of Egypt, I have slain, with the sword, your young men, and therewith have been taken captive your horses, And I have caused to ascendthe stench of your camps, even into your own nostrils, Yet ye have not returned unto me, Declareth Yahweh.11 I have made an overthrew among you, like the divine overthrow of Sodom arid Gomorrah, and ye have become like a brand snatched out of the burning,Yet hate ye not returned unto me, Declareth Yahweh.12 Therefore, thus, will I do unto thee, O Israel,Because this thing I will do unto thee, Prepare to meet thy God, O Israel.13 For lo! He that fashioned the mountains, and created the wind, and who telleth the son of earth what is his thought, who turneth dawn into darkness, and marcheth upon the high places of the earth, Yahweh, God of hosts, is his name!

1 Ouvi esta palavra, vós, vacas de Basã, que estais no monte de Samaria, que oprimis os pobres, que quebrantais os necessitados, que dizeis a seus senhores: Dai cá, e bebamos. 2 Jurou o Senhor Jeová, pela sua santidade, que dias estão para vir sobre vós, em que vos levarão com anzóis e a vossos descendentes com anzóis de pesca. 3 E saireis pelas brechas, uma após outra, e vos lançareis para Hermom, disse o Senhor.

4 Vinde a Betel e transgredi; a Gilgal, e multiplicai as transgressões; e, cada manhã, trazei os vossos sacrifícios e, de três em três dias, os vossos dízimos. 5 E oferecei sacrifício de louvores do que é levedado, e apregoai sacrifícios voluntários, e publicai-os; porque disso gostais, ó filhos de Israel, disse o Senhor Jeová.

6 Por isso, também vos dei limpeza de dentes em todas as vossas cidades e falta de pão em todos os vossos lugares; contudo, não vos convertestes a mim, disse o Senhor. 7 Além disso, retive de vós a chuva, faltando ainda três meses para a ceifa; e fiz chover sobre uma cidade e sobre outra cidade não fiz chover; sobre um campo choveu, mas o outro, sobre o qual não choveu, se secou. 8 E andaram errantes duas ou três cidades, indo a outra cidade, para beberem água, mas não se saciaram; contudo, não vos convertestes a mim, disse o Senhor. 9 Feri-vos com queimadura e com ferrugem; a multidão das vossas hortas, e das vossas vinhas, e das vossas figueiras, e das vossas oliveiras foi comida pela locusta; contudo, não vos convertestes a mim, disse o Senhor. 10 Enviei a peste contra vós, à maneira do Egito; os vossos jovens matei à espada, e os vossos cavalos deixei levar presos, e o fedor dos vossos exércitos fiz subir ao vosso nariz; contudo, não vos convertestes a mim, disse o Senhor. 11 Subverti alguns dentre vós, como Deus subverteu a Sodoma e Gomorra, e vós fostes como um tição arrebatado do incêndio; contudo, não vos convertestes a mim, disse o Senhor.

12 Portanto, assim te farei, ó Israel! E, porque isso te farei, prepara-te, ó Israel, para te encontrares com o teu Deus. 13 Porque é ele o que forma os montes, e cria o vento, e declara ao homem qual é o seu pensamento, o que faz da manhã trevas e pisa os altos da terra; Senhor, o Deus dos Exércitos, é o seu nome.
