1 And, Saul, was taking pleasure with them in his death. Moreover there arose, in that day, a great persecution against the assembly which was in Jerusalem; and , all, were scattered abroad throughout the countries of Judaea and Samaria, except the apostles.2 Howbeit reverent men assisted at the burial of Stephen, and made great lamentation over him.3 But, Saul, went on to lay waste the assembly, along the houses, going in, and, dragging off both men and women, was4 They, indeed, therefore, who were scattered abroad, passed through, telling the good-news of the word;5 And, Philip, going down unto the city of Samaria, proclaimed unto them the Christ.6 And the multitudes began to give heed unto the things that were being spoken by Philip, with one accord, when they heard him, and saw the signs which he was working.7 For, from many who had impure spirits, shouting with a loud voice, they were going out, and, many that were paralysed and lame, were cured.8 And there came to be great joy in that city.9 But, a certain man named Simon, was already in the city, practising magical arts, and astonishing the nation of Samaria,saying that himself was someone great:10 Unto whom all were giving heed, from small even to great, sayingThis, is the Power of God, which is called Great.11 And they were giving heed to him, because that, for a considerable time, with his magical arts, he had astonished them.12 But, when they believed Philip telling the good news concerning the kingdom of God, and the name of Jesus Christ, they proceeded to be immersed, both men and women.13 And, Simon himself also, believed; and, having been immersed, was in constant attendance on Philip,and, beholding signs and great works of power coming to pass, was astonished.14 And the Apostles who were in Jerusalem, hearing that Samaria had welcomed the word of God, sent out unto them Peter and John;15 Who, indeed, going down, prayed for them, that they might receive Holy Spirit;16 For, not yet, had it, upon any one of them, fallen, but, only, to begin with, they had been immersed into the name of the Lord Jesus.17 Then, proceeded they to lay their hands upon them, and they were receiving Holy Spirit.18 But Simon, seeing that, through means of the laying on of the hands of the Apostles, the Spirit was being given, offered unto them money,19 SayingGive unto me also this authority,in order that, on whomsoever may lay my hands, he may receive Holy Spirit.20 And Peter said unto himThy silver, with thee, go to destruction! Because, the free-gift of God, thou didst suppose could, with money, be obtained!21 Thou hast neither part nor lot in this matter; for, thy heart, is not upright before God.22 Repent, therefore, from this thy baseness, and entreat of the Lordwhether, after all, the purpose of thy heart shall be forgiven thee;23 For see that thou servest as a gall-root of bitterness, and a bond of unrighteousness.24 And Simon, answering, saidEntreat ye, in my behalf, unto the Lord; that, nothing, may come upon me, of the things whereof ye have spoken!25 They, therefore, having fully borne witness, and spoken the word of the Lord, began their return unto Jerusalem, and, unto many villages of the Samaritans, were they telling the glad tidings.26 And, a messenger of the Lord, spake unto Philip, sayingArise, and be journeying along southward, unto the way that goeth down from Jerusalem unto Gaza,the same, is desert.27 And, arising, he journeyed. And lo! a man of Ethiopia, a eunuch, one in power under Candace queen of the Ethiopians, who was over all her treasure who had come to worship in Jerusalem;28 And was returning, and, sitting in his chariot, and was reading the prophet Isaiah.29 And the Spirit said unto PhilipGo near, and join thyself unto this chariot!30 And, running near, Philip heard him reading Isaiah the prophet, and saidDost thou, then, understand what thou art reading?31 And, he, saidHow indeed should be ableunless someone shall guide me? And he called upon Philip, to come up and sit with him.32 Now, the passage of Scripture which he was reading, was, this:As a sheep, unto slaughter, was he led, and, as a lamb, before him that sheareth it, is dumb, so, he openeth not his mouth.33 In his humiliation, his judgment was taken away,his generation, who shall describe? because, his life, is taken away from the earth.34 And the eunuch, making answer unto Philip, saidI pray thee! Of whom, is the prophet saying this? of himself, or, of some different person?35 And Philip, opening his mouth, and beginning from this scripture, told him the glad tidings of Jesus.36 And, as they were journeying along the way, they came unto a certain water,and the eunuch saithLo! water! What doth hinder my being immersed?38 And he commanded the chariot to stand still; and they went down, both, into the water, both Philip and the eunuch,and he immersed him.39 But, when they came up out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, and the eunuch saw him no more; for he was going on his way rejoicing.40 Now Philip was found at Azotus; and, passing through, he was telling the glad tidings unto all the cities, until he came unto Caesarea.

1 E também Saulo consentiu na morte dele. E fez-se, naquele dia, uma grande perseguição contra a igreja que estava em Jerusalém; e todos foram dispersos pelas terras da Judeia e da Samaria, exceto os apóstolos. 2 E uns varões piedosos foram enterrar Estêvão e fizeram sobre ele grande pranto. 3 E Saulo assolava a igreja, entrando pelas casas; e, arrastando homens e mulheres, os encerrava na prisão.

4 Mas os que andavam dispersos iam por toda parte anunciando a palavra. 5 E, descendo Filipe à cidade de Samaria, lhes pregava a Cristo. 6 E as multidões unanimemente prestavam atenção ao que Filipe dizia, porque ouviam e viam os sinais que ele fazia, 7 pois que os espíritos imundos saíam de muitos que os tinham, clamando em alta voz; e muitos paralíticos e coxos eram curados. 8 E havia grande alegria naquela cidade.

9 E estava ali um certo homem chamado Simão, que anteriormente exercera naquela cidade a arte mágica e tinha iludido a gente de Samaria, dizendo que era uma grande personagem; 10 ao qual todos atendiam, desde o mais pequeno até ao maior, dizendo: Este é a grande virtude de Deus. 11 E atendiam-no a ele, porque já desde muito tempo os havia iludido com artes mágicas. 12 Mas, como cressem em Filipe, que lhes pregava acerca do Reino de Deus e do nome de Jesus Cristo, se batizavam, tanto homens como mulheres. 13 E creu até o próprio Simão; e, sendo batizado, ficou, de contínuo, com Filipe e, vendo os sinais e as grandes maravilhas que se faziam, estava atônito.

14 Os apóstolos, pois, que estavam em Jerusalém, ouvindo que Samaria recebera a palavra de Deus, enviaram para lá Pedro e João, 15 os quais, tendo descido, oraram por eles para que recebessem o Espírito Santo. 16 (Porque sobre nenhum deles tinha ainda descido, mas somente eram batizados em nome do Senhor Jesus.) 17 Então, lhes impuseram as mãos, e receberam o Espírito Santo. 18 E Simão, vendo que pela imposição das mãos dos apóstolos era dado o Espírito Santo, lhes ofereceu dinheiro, 19 dizendo: Dai-me também a mim esse poder, para que aquele sobre quem eu puser as mãos receba o Espírito Santo. 20 Mas disse-lhe Pedro: O teu dinheiro seja contigo para perdição, pois cuidaste que o dom de Deus se alcança por dinheiro. 21 Tu não tens parte nem sorte nesta palavra, porque o teu coração não é reto diante de Deus. 22 Arrepende-te, pois, dessa tua iniquidade e ora a Deus, para que, porventura, te seja perdoado o pensamento do teu coração; 23 pois vejo que estás em fel de amargura e em laço de iniquidade. 24 Respondendo, porém, Simão disse: Orai vós por mim ao Senhor, para que nada do que dissestes venha sobre mim.

25 Tendo eles, pois, testificado e falado a palavra do Senhor, voltaram para Jerusalém e, em muitas aldeias dos samaritanos, anunciaram o evangelho.

26 E o anjo do Senhor falou a Filipe, dizendo: Levanta-te e vai para a banda do Sul, ao caminho que desce de Jerusalém para Gaza, que está deserto. 27 E levantou-se e foi. E eis que um homem etíope, eunuco, mordomo-mor de Candace, rainha dos etíopes, o qual era superintendente de todos os seus tesouros e tinha ido a Jerusalém para adoração, 28 regressava e, assentado no seu carro, lia o profeta Isaías. 29 E disse o Espírito a Filipe: Chega-te e ajunta-te a esse carro. 30 E, correndo Filipe, ouviu que lia o profeta Isaías e disse: Entendes tu o que lês? 31 E ele disse: Como poderei entender, se alguém me não ensinar? E rogou a Filipe que subisse e com ele se assentasse. 32 E o lugar da Escritura que lia era este: Foi levado como a ovelha para o matadouro; e, como está mudo o cordeiro diante do que o tosquia, assim não abriu a sua boca. 33 Na sua humilhação, foi tirado o seu julgamento; e quem contará a sua geração? Porque a sua vida é tirada da terra. 34 E, respondendo o eunuco a Filipe, disse: Rogo-te, de quem diz isto o profeta? De si mesmo ou de algum outro? 35 Então, Filipe, abrindo a boca e começando nesta Escritura, lhe anunciou a Jesus. 36 E, indo eles caminhando, chegaram ao pé de alguma água, e disse o eunuco: Eis aqui água; que impede que eu seja batizado? 37 E disse Filipe: É lícito, se crês de todo o coração. E, respondendo ele, disse: Creio que Jesus Cristo é o Filho de Deus. 38 E mandou parar o carro, e desceram ambos à água, tanto Filipe como o eunuco, e o batizou. 39 E, quando saíram da água, o Espírito do Senhor arrebatou a Filipe, e não o viu mais o eunuco; e, jubiloso, continuou o seu caminho. 40 E Filipe se achou em Azoto e, indo passando, anunciava o evangelho em todas as cidades, até que chegou a Cesareia.
