1 Upon my watch-tower, will I stand, and will station myself upon the bulwark,so will I keep outlook, to seewhat he will speak with me, and what I shall reply, when I am reproved.2 Then Yahweh answered me, and said, Write the vision, Yea, make it plain on tablets, that one may swiftly read it;3 For yet is the vision for an appointed time, still, it presseth towards an end, and will not deceive,if it tarry, wait thou for it, for it, surely cometh,will not be too late.4 Lo! as for the conceited one, crooked is his soul within him,- but, one who is righteous, by his faithfulness, shall live.5 Moreover also, when wine betrayeth, a man, is arrogant, and findeth no rest,because he hath enlarged, like hades, his desire, yea, he, is like death, and cannot be satisfied,but hath gathered unto himself, all the nations, and assembled unto himself, all the peoples.6 Shall not, these, all of them, against him, take upa taunt, a mocking poem, enigmatical sentencesconcerning him? And sayAlas! for him who maketh abundance in what is not his own, How long? that he should be burdening himself with heavy debts?7 Will not thy creditors, suddenly rise up? and they who shall violently shake thee, all at once become active? Then shalt thou serve for booties, unto them!8 Because, thou, hast plundered many nations, all the residue of the peoples, shall plunder thee,for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.9 Alas! for him who extorteth an extortion of wrong for his own house,that he may set on high his nest, that he may be delivered from the grasp of calamity.10 Thou hast counseled shame to thy housemaking an end of many peoples, and endangering thine own life.11 Surely, the stone out of the wall, will make outcry,and, the tie out of the timber, will answer it.12 Alas! for him who buildeth a city with deeds of blood,and establisheth a town with perversity.13 Lo! is it not from Yahweh of hoststhat peoples labour for fire, and, populations, for emptiness, weary themselves?14 For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of Yahweh,as, the waters, cover the sea.15 Alas! for him who causeth his neighbour to drink, from the goblet of thy fury, and also, making him drunk,to the end thou mayest gloat over their parts of shame.16 Thou art sated with contempt, more than glory, drink, thou too, and expose thy person,the cup of the right hand of Yahweh, shall come round unto thee, and ignominious filth be upon thy glory;17 For, the violence to Lebanon, shall cover thee, and wasting by wild beasts shall cause them terror,for shedding Human blood, and doing violence to the earth, to the city, and to all who dwell therein.18 What hath a carved image, profited, though the fashioner thereof, carved it? a molten image, and a teacher of falsehood,though the fashioner of his fashioned thing trusted therein? that men should make Dumb Nonentities!19 Alas! for him who saith to wood, Awake, bestir thee! to a silent stone, he, shall teach! Though he is overlaid with gold and silver, yet, no spirit whatsoever, is in him!20 Howbeit, Yahweh, is in his holy temple,Hush before him, all the earth.

1 Sobre a minha guarda estarei, e sobre a fortaleza me apresentarei, e vigiarei, para ver o que fala comigo e o que eu responderei, quando eu for arguido. 2 Então, o Senhor me respondeu e disse: Escreve a visão e torna-a bem legível sobre tábuas, para que a possa ler o que correndo passa. 3 Porque a visão é ainda para o tempo determinado, e até ao fim falará, e não mentirá; se tardar, espera-o, porque certamente virá, não tardará. 4 Eis que a sua alma se incha, não é reta nele; mas o justo, pela sua fé, viverá. 5 Tanto mais que, por ser dado ao vinho, é desleal; um homem soberbo, que não se contém, que alarga como o sepulcro o seu desejo e, como a morte, que não se farta, ajunta a si todas as nações e congrega a si todos os povos.

6 Não levantarão, pois, todos estes contra ele uma parábola e um dito agudo contra ele, dizendo: Ai daquele que multiplica o que não é seu (até quando!) e daquele que se carrega a si mesmo de dívidas! 7 Não se levantarão de repente os que te hão de morder? E não despertarão os que te hão de abalar? E não lhes servirás tu de despojo? 8 Visto como despojaste muitas nações, todos os mais povos te despojarão a ti, por causa do sangue dos homens e da violência para com a terra, a cidade e todos os que habitam nela.

9 Ai daquele que ajunta em sua casa bens mal adquiridos, para pôr o seu ninho no alto, a fim de se livrar da mão do mal! 10 Vergonha maquinaste para a tua casa; destruindo tu a muitos povos, pecaste contra a tua alma. 11 Porque a pedra clamará da parede, e a trave lhe responderá do madeiramento.

12 Ai daquele que edifica a cidade com sangue e que funda a cidade com iniquidade! 13 Eis que não vem do Senhor dos Exércitos que os povos trabalhem para o fogo e os homens se cansem pela vaidade. 14 Porque a terra se encherá do conhecimento da glória do Senhor, como as águas cobrem o mar.

15 Ai daquele que dá de beber ao seu companheiro! Tu, que lhe chegas o teu odre e o embebedas, para ver a sua nudez, 16 serás farto de ignomínia em lugar de honra; bebe tu também e sê como um incircunciso; o cálice da mão direita do Senhor se voltará sobre ti, e vômito ignominioso cairá sobre a tua glória. 17 Porque a violência cometida contra o Líbano te cobrirá, e a destruição dos animais ferozes os assombrará, por causa do sangue dos homens, e da violência para com a terra, a cidade e todos os seus moradores.

18 Que aproveitará a imagem de escultura, que esculpiu o seu artífice? E a imagem de fundição, que ensina a mentira, para que o artífice confie na obra, fazendo ídolos mudos?

19 Ai daquele que diz ao pau: Acorda! E à pedra muda: Desperta! Pode isso ensinar? Eis que está coberto de ouro e de prata, mas no meio dele não há espírito algum. 20 Mas o Senhor está no seu santo templo; cale-se diante dele toda a terra.
