1 Alas for the city of bloodshed! All of it, deceit, of violence full, none releaseth prey!2 The sound of the whip, and the sound of the rushing wheel,and horse galloping, and dancing chariot rattling along.3 Horsemen uplifting both the flashing sword, and the lightning spear, Aye, a mass of slain, and a weight of dead bridles,and no end of corpses, so that they stumble upon their corpses.4 Because of the multitude of the unchaste doings of the unchaste one, fair in grace, mistress of secret arts,who hath been selling nations by her unchaste doings, families by her secret arts,5 Behold me! against thee, Declareth Yahweh of hosts, Therefore will I remove thy shirts over thy face,and let, nations, see thy nakedness, and, kingdoms, thy shame;6 And I will cast upon thee abominable filth, and treat thee as foolish,and set thee as a gazing-stock.7 And it shall come to pass that, all who see thee, shall flee from thee, and shall say, Destroyed is Nineveh! Who will bemoan her?Whence shall I seek any to comfort thee?8 Art thou better than No-amon, who sat among the Nile-streams, waters round about her,whose fortress was the sea, from the sea, her wall.9 Ethiopia, was her strength, and EgyptYea, without end,Put and Lubim, were among thy helpers.10 Yet, she, was given up to exile, she went into captivity, even her babes, were dashed to the ground, at the head of all the streets,and, for her honourable men, cast they lots, and, all her great men, were bound together in chains.11 Thou too, shalt be drunken, thou shalt hide thyself,thou too, shalt seek shelter from the foe:12 All thy fortresses, shall be fig-trees with first-ripe figs: if thy be shaken, then shall fall on the mouth of the eater.13 Lo! thy people, are women, in thy midst, to thy foes, have been set wide open the gates of thy and,a fire, hath devoured, thy bars.14 Siege-water, draw for thyself, strengthen thy fortresses,go into the clay, and tread thou the mortar, make strong the brick.15 There, shall a fire devour thee, the sword, shall cut thee off, it shall devour thee like the grass locust, make thyself numerous like the grass locust, make thyself numerous as the swarming locust:16 Though thou have multiplied thy foot-soldiers beyond the stars of the heavens, the grass locust, hath stript itself and flown away!17 Thy mercenary crowds, are like the swarming locust, and, thy mixed multitudes, like locustsswarms of locusts,which settle in the hedges on a cold day, the sun, hath broken forth, and they are in flight, and unknown is the place where they are!18 Asleep are thy shepherds, O king of Assyria, thy nobles, must needs rest. Scattered are thy people upon the mountains, and there is none to gather them.19 No lessening of thine injury, grievous is thy wound,all who have heard the report of thee, have clapped their hands over thee, for, upon whom, hath not thy cruelty passed without ceasing?

1 Ai da cidade ensanguentada! Ela está toda cheia de mentiras e de rapina! Não se aparta dela o roubo. 2 Estrépito de açoite há, e o estrondo do ruído das rodas; e os cavalos atropelam, e carros vão saltando. 3 O cavaleiro levanta a espada flamejante e a lança relampagueante, e haverá uma multidão de mortos e abundância de cadáveres, e não terão fim os defuntos; tropeçarão nos seus corpos, 4 por causa da multidão dos pecados da mui graciosa meretriz, da mestra das feitiçarias, que vendeu os povos com os seus deleites e as gerações com as suas feitiçarias. 5 Eis que eu estou contra ti, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, e te descobrirei na tua face, e às nações mostrarei a tua nudez e aos reinos, a tua vergonha. 6 E lançarei sobre ti coisas abomináveis, e te envergonharei, e pôr-te-ei como espetáculo. 7 E há de ser que todos os que te virem fugirão de ti e dirão: Nínive está destruída; quem terá compaixão dela? Donde buscarei consoladores para ti?

8 És tu melhor do que Nô-Amom, que está situada entre os rios, cercada de águas, tendo por esplanada o mar e ainda o mar, por muralha? 9 Etiópia e Egito eram a sua força e esta não tinha fim; Pute e Líbia foram o teu socorro. 10 Todavia, ela foi levada, foi para o cativeiro; também os seus filhos foram despedaçados no topo de todas as ruas, e sobre os seus nobres lançaram sortes, e todos os seus grandes foram presos com grilhões.

11 Tu também, Nínive, serás embriagada e te esconderás; também buscarás força, por causa do inimigo. 12 Todas as tuas fortalezas serão como figueiras com figos temporãos; se se sacodem, caem na boca do que os há de comer. 13 Eis que o teu povo no meio de ti será como mulheres; as portas da tua terra estarão de todo abertas aos teus inimigos; o fogo consumirá os teus ferrolhos.

14 Tira águas para o cerco, fortifica as tuas fortalezas, entra no lodo, pisa o barro e repara o forno para os ladrilhos. 15 O fogo ali te consumirá, a espada te exterminará; consumir-te-á como a locusta; multiplica-te como a locusta, multiplica-te como os gafanhotos. 16 Multiplicaste os teus negociantes mais do que as estrelas do céu; a locusta se espalhará e voará. 17 Os teus coroados são como os gafanhotos, e os teus chefes, como os gafanhotos grandes, que se acampam nas sebes nos dias de frio; em subindo o sol, voam, e não se conhece o lugar onde estão.

18 Os teus pastores dormitarão, ó rei da Assíria; os teus ilustres deitar-se-ão, o teu povo se derramará pelos montes, sem que haja quem possa ajuntá-lo.

19 Não há cura para a tua ferida; a tua chaga é dolorosa; todos os que ouvirem a tua fama baterão as palmas sobre ti; porque sobre quem não passou continuamente a tua malícia?
