1 Say ye unto your brethren, O Ammi, and unto your sisters, O Ruhamah: \fs152 Contend ye with your mother, contend, for she is no wife of mine, and I am no husband of hers, Let her then put away her paramours from before her, and her partners in adultery, from her embraces:3 Lest I strip off her under-clothing, and set her forth to view, as in the day she was born,and make her like a wilderness, and render her like a land that is parched, and suffer her to die of thirst;4 And, on her children, not have compassion,because, the children of paramours, they are.5 For their mother, hath been unchaste, and she that conceived them, hath caused shame,for she said, Let me go after my lovers! who used to give my bread, and my water, my wool, and my flax, mine oil, and my drink.6 Therefore, behold me! hedging up her way, with thorns,and I will wall her in, and, her footpaths, shall she not find.7 And, when she shall pursue her lovers, and not overtake them, and shall seek them and not find, then will she say, Let me go my way now! and return unto my first husband, for it was better with me, then, than, now!8 But, she, owneth not, that, I, gave herthe corn, and the new wine and the oil,silver, also increased I unto her, and gold they offered to Baal!9 Therefore, will I again take away my corn, in the time thereof, and my new wine, in the season thereof,and will recover my wool and my flax to hide her shame.10 Now, therefore, will I expose her unseemliness, before the eyes of her lovers,and no, man, shall deliver her out of my hand!11 And I will cause to cease all her mirth, her pilgrim-festival, her new moon and her sabbath,and her every appointed meeting;12 And will lay waste her vine and her fig- tree, as to which she hath said, A present, are they for myself, which my lovers, have given me,and I will make of them a thicket, and the wild beasts of the field shall devour them.13 So will I visit upon her the days of the Baals, unto whom she used to burn incense, and decked herself with her nose-ring and her jewelry, and went her way after her lovers,whereas, me, she forgat, Declareth Yahweh.14 Therefore, lo! I, am going to persuade her, and, though I conduct her forth into wilderness, yet will I speak unto her heart.15 Then will I give to her her vineyards from thence, and the vale of Achor for a door of hope,and she will respond there, as in the days of her youth, and as in the day when she came up out of the land of Egypt. \fs1516 And it shall come to pass, in that day, Declareth Yahweh, that she will call me Ishi, and will not call me any more, Baali.17 So will I take away the names of the Baals, out of her mouth,and they shall not be called to mind any more, by their name. \fs1518 And I will solemnize to them a covenant, in that day, with the wild-beast of the field, and with the bird of the heavens, and the creeping thing of the ground,and, bow and sword and battle, will I break in pieces out of the land, so will I cause them to lie down, in security.19 And I will take thee unto myself, unto times age-abiding,yea I will take thee unto myself, in righteousness and in justice, and in lovingkindness, and in abounding compassion:20 Yea I will take thee unto myself, in faithfulness,So shalt thou know Yahweh.21 And it shall come to pass in that day, that I will respond, Declareth Yahweh, I will respond to the heavens,and, they, shall respond to the earth;22 And, the earth, shall respond to the corn, and to the new wine and to the oil,and, they, shall respond to Jezreel \fs1523 So will I sow her unto me in the land, and will have compassion upon the uncompassionated one,and will say to him who was No-people-of-mine, My people, thou art, and, he, shall say, My God! \fs15

2 Contendei com vossa mãe, contendei, porque ela não é minha mulher, e eu não sou seu marido; e desvie ela as suas prostituições da sua face e os seus adultérios de entre os seus peitos. 3 Para que eu não a deixe despida, e a ponha como no dia em que nasceu, e a faça como um deserto, e a ponha como uma terra seca, e a mate à sede, 4 e não me compadeça de seus filhos, porque são filhos de prostituições. 5 Porque sua mãe se prostituiu, aquela que os concebeu houve-se torpemente porque diz: Irei atrás de meus namorados, que me dão o meu pão e a minha água, a minha lã e o meu linho, o meu óleo e as minhas bebidas. 6 Portanto, eis que cercarei o teu caminho com espinhos; e levantarei uma parede de sebe, para que ela não ache as suas veredas. 7 E irá em seguimento de seus amantes, mas não os alcançará; e buscá-los-á, mas não os achará; então, dirá: Ir-me-ei e tornar-me-ei a meu primeiro marido, porque melhor me ia, então, do que agora. 8 Ela, pois, não reconhece que eu lhe dei o grão, e o mosto, e o óleo e lhe multipliquei a prata e o ouro, que eles usaram para Baal. 9 Portanto, tornar-me-ei e, a seu tempo, tirarei o meu grão e o meu mosto, no seu determinado tempo; e arrebatarei a minha lã e o meu linho, com que cobriam a sua nudez. 10 E, agora, descobrirei a sua vileza diante dos olhos dos seus namorados, e ninguém a livrará da minha mão. 11 E farei cessar todo o seu gozo, e as suas festas, e as suas luas novas, e os seus sábados, e todas as suas festividades. 12 E devastarei a sua vide e a sua figueira, de que ela diz: É esta a paga que me deram os meus amantes; eu, pois, farei delas um bosque, e as bestas-feras do campo as devorarão. 13 E sobre ela visitarei os dias de Baal, nos quais lhe queimou incenso, e se adornou dos seus pendentes e das suas gargantilhas, e andou atrás de seus namorados, mas de mim se esqueceu, diz o Senhor.

14 Portanto, eis que eu a atrairei, e a levarei para o deserto, e lhe falarei ao coração. 15 E lhe darei as suas vinhas dali e o vale de Acor, por porta de esperança; e ali cantará, como nos dias da sua mocidade e como no dia em que subiu da terra do Egito. 16 E acontecerá naquele dia, diz o Senhor, que me chamarás: Meu marido e não me chamarás mais: Meu Baal. 17 E da sua boca tirarei os nomes de baalins, e os seus nomes não virão mais em memória. 18 E, naquele dia, farei por eles aliança com as bestas-feras do campo, e com as aves do céu, e com os répteis da terra; e da terra tirarei o arco, e a espada, e a guerra e os farei deitar em segurança. 19 E desposar-te-ei comigo para sempre; desposar-te-ei comigo em justiça, e em juízo, e em benignidade, e em misericórdias. 20 E desposar-te-ei comigo em fidelidade, e conhecerás o Senhor.

21 E acontecerá, naquele dia, que eu responderei, diz o Senhor, eu responderei aos céus, e estes responderão à terra. 22 E a terra responderá ao trigo, e ao mosto, e ao óleo; e estes responderão a Jezreel. 23 E semeá-la-ei para mim na terra e compadecer-me-ei de Lo-Ruama; e a Lo-Ami direi: Tu és meu povo! E ele dirá: Tu és o meu Deus!
