1 Let, every soul, unto protecting authorities be in subjection; for there is no authority save by God, and, they that are in being, have by God been arranged,2 So that, he who rangeth himself against the authority, against the arrangement of God opposeth himself, and, they who oppose, shall unto themselves a sentence of judgment receive.3 For, they who bear rule, are not a terror unto the good work but unto the evil. Wouldst thou not be afraid of the authority? That which is good, be thou doing, and thou shall have praise of the same;4 For, Gods minister, is he unto thee for that which is good. But, if, that which is evil, thou be doing, be afraid! For, not in vain, the sword he beareth; for, Gods minister, he is,an avenger, unto anger, to him who practiseth what is evil.5 Wherefore it is necessary to be in subjection,not only because of the anger, but also because of the conscience;6 For, because of this, are ye paying tribute also,for, Gods ministers of state, they are, unto this very thing, giving constant attendance.7 Render unto all their dues,unto whom tribute, tribute, unto whom tax, tax, unto whom fear, fear, unto whom honour, honour.8 Nothing to any, be owingsave to be loving one another; for, he that loveth his neighbour, hath given to, law, its fulfillment.9 For, thisThou shall not commit adultery, Thou shall not commit murder, Thou shall not steal, Thou shall not covet, and if there is any different commandment, in this word, is summed up, namely Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.10 Love, unto ones neighbour, worketh not ill; Laws fullness, therefore, is, love.11 And, this besides,knowing the seasonthat it is an hour already for you out of sleep to be wakened; for, now, is our salvation nearer than when we believed:12 The night, is far spent and, the day, hath drawn near; let us, then, cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light,13 As in daytime, becomingly let us walk: not in revellings and in drunken bouts, not in chamberings and in wanton deeds, not in strife and envy;14 But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and, for the flesh, take not forethought to fulfil its covetings.

1 Toda alma esteja sujeita às autoridades superiores; porque não há autoridade que não venha de Deus; e as autoridades que há foram ordenadas por Deus. 2 Por isso, quem resiste à autoridade resiste à ordenação de Deus; e os que resistem trarão sobre si mesmos a condenação. 3 Porque os magistrados não são terror para as boas obras, mas para as más. Queres tu, pois, não temer a autoridade? Faze o bem e terás louvor dela. 4 Porque ela é ministro de Deus para teu bem. Mas, se fizeres o mal, teme, pois não traz debalde a espada; porque é ministro de Deus e vingador para castigar o que faz o mal. 5 Portanto, é necessário que lhe estejais sujeitos, não somente pelo castigo, mas também pela consciência. 6 Por esta razão também pagais tributos, porque são ministros de Deus, atendendo sempre a isto mesmo. 7 Portanto, dai a cada um o que deveis: a quem tributo, tributo; a quem imposto, imposto; a quem temor, temor; a quem honra, honra.

8 A ninguém devais coisa alguma, a não ser o amor com que vos ameis uns aos outros; porque quem ama aos outros cumpriu a lei. 9 Com efeito: Não adulterarás, não matarás, não furtarás, não darás falso testemunho, não cobiçarás, e, se há algum outro mandamento, tudo nesta palavra se resume: Amarás ao teu próximo como a ti mesmo. 10 O amor não faz mal ao próximo; de sorte que o cumprimento da lei é o amor.

11 E isto digo, conhecendo o tempo, que é já hora de despertarmos do sono; porque a nossa salvação está, agora, mais perto de nós do que quando aceitamos a fé. 12 A noite é passada, e o dia é chegado. Rejeitemos, pois, as obras das trevas e vistamo-nos das armas da luz. 13 Andemos honestamente, como de dia, não em glutonarias, nem em bebedeiras, nem em desonestidades, nem em dissoluções, nem em contendas e inveja. 14 Mas revesti-vos do Senhor Jesus Cristo e não tenhais cuidado da carne em suas concupiscências.
