1 Symeon Petrus, Knecht und Apostel Jesu Christi, an die, welche einen gleich wertvollen Glauben erlangt haben wie wir an die Gerechtigkeit unsres Gottes und Retters Jesus Christus: 2 Gnade und Friede widerfahre euch mehr und mehr in der Erkenntnis Gottes und unsres Herrn Jesus! 3 Nachdem seine göttliche Kraft uns alles, was zum Leben und zur Gottseligkeit dient, geschenkt hat, durch die Erkenntnis dessen, der uns kraft seiner Herrlichkeit und Tugend berufen hat, 4 durch welche uns die teuersten und größten Verheißungen geschenkt sind, damit ihr durch dieselben göttlicher Natur teilhaftig werdet, nachdem ihr dem in der Welt durch die Lust herrschenden Verderben entflohen seid, 5 so setzet nun all euren Fleiß zu dem hinzu und reichet dar in eurem Glauben die Tugend, in der Tugend aber die Erkenntnis, 6 in der Erkenntnis aber die Enthaltsamkeit, in der Enthaltsamkeit aber die Ausdauer, in der Ausdauer aber die Gottseligkeit, 7 in der Gottseligkeit aber die Bruderliebe, in der Bruderliebe aber die Liebe [zu allen] Menschen. 8 Denn wo solches reichlich bei euch vorhanden ist, wird es euch nicht müßig noch unfruchtbar machen für die Erkenntnis unsres Herrn Jesus Christus. 9 Wer aber solches nicht hat, der ist blind, kurzsichtig und hat die Reinigung seiner ehemaligen Sünden vergessen. 10 Darum, meine Brüder, befleißiget euch desto mehr, eure Berufung und Erwählung fest zu machen. Denn wo ihr solches tut, werdet ihr niemals straucheln; 11 denn so wird euch der Eingang in das ewige Reich unsres Herrn und Retters Jesus Christus reichlich gewährt werden. 12 Darum will ich euch stets daran erinnern, wiewohl ihr es wisset und in der gegenwärtigen Wahrheit befestigt seid. 13 Ich halte es aber für billig, solange ich in dieser Hütte bin, euch durch [solche] Erinnerung aufzuwecken, 14 da ich weiß, daß ich meine Hütte bald ablegen muß, wie mir auch unser Herr Jesus Christus eröffnet hat. 15 Ich will mich aber befleißigen, daß ihr auch nach meinem Abschied allezeit etwas habet, wodurch ihr euer Gedächtnis auffrischen könnet. 16 Denn wir sind nicht klug ersonnenen Fabeln gefolgt, als wir euch die Kraft und Wiederkunft unsres Herrn Jesus Christus kundtaten, sondern wir sind Augenzeugen seiner Herrlichkeit gewesen. 17 Denn er empfing von Gott dem Vater Ehre und Herrlichkeit, als eine Stimme von der hocherhabenen Herrlichkeit daherkam, des Inhalts: «Dies ist mein lieber Sohn, an welchem ich Wohlgefallen habe!» 18 Und diese Stimme hörten wir vom Himmel her kommen, als wir mit ihm auf dem heiligen Berge waren. 19 Und wir halten nun desto fester an dem prophetischen Wort, und ihr tut wohl, darauf zu achten als auf ein Licht, das an einem dunklen Orte scheint, bis der Tag anbricht und der Morgenstern aufgeht in euren Herzen; 20 wobei ihr das zuerst wissen müßt, daß keine Weissagung der Schrift ein Werk eigener Deutung ist. 21 Denn niemals wurde durch menschlichen Willen eine Weissagung hervorgebracht, sondern vom heiligen Geist getrieben redeten heilige Menschen, von Gott [gesandt].

3 Kua hōmai nā hoki e tōna kaha Atua ki a tātou ngā mea katoa mō te ora, mō te karakia pai, i te mea ka mātau nei ki te Kaikaranga i a tātou i runga i te korōria, i te pai. 4 Nā ēnei hoki i riro mai ai i a tātou ngā kupu whakaari, he mea nui whakaharahara, he mea utu nui; mā ēnei hoki koutou ka whiwhi ai ki te āhua Atua, i a koutou ka mawhiti nei i te pirau i te ao, arā i tō te hiahia.

5 Mā reira nei hoki, me whakapau rawa tō koutou uaua, honoa iho anō te pai ki runga ki tō koutou whakapono; ki runga hoki ki te pai ko te mātauranga; 6 ki runga ki te mātauranga ko te pēhi o te hiahia; ki runga ki te pēhi o te hiahia ko te manawanui; ki runga ki te manawanui ko te karakia pai; 7 ki runga ki te karakia pai ko te atawhai ki ngā tēina; ki runga ki te atawhai ki ngā tēina ko te aroha. 8 Ki te mea hoki kei a koutou ēnei mea, ki te nui haere hoki, ka meinga koutou kia kaua e māngere, kia kaua e huakore i runga i te mātauranga ki tō tātou Ariki, ki a Īhu Karaiti. 9 Ko te tangata hoki kāhore nei i a ia ēnei mea, he matapō, he atarua, kua wareware ki te horoinga o ōna hara ō mua.

10 Mō konei, e ōku tēina, kia puta tō koutou uaua ki te whakapūmau i tō koutou karangatanga, i tō koutou whiriwhiringa. Ki te pēnei hoki tā koutou mahi e kore rawa koutou e tapepa. 11 Pēnei hoki ka whiwhi nui koutou ki te huarahi tomo atu ki te rangatiratanga mutungakore o tō tātou Ariki, arā o te Kaiwhakaora, o Īhu Karaiti.

12 Mō reira anō e kore ahau e māngere ki te whakamahara tonu i a koutou ki ēnei mea, e mātau ana rāia koutou, kua oti anō te whakaū ki runga ki te mea pono, kei a koutou nā. 13 Ki tōku whakaaro hoki, i ahau e noho ana i tēnei tapenākara, he mea tika anō kia whakaoho ahau i a koutou, kia whakamahara; 14 e mōhio ana hoki ahau e kore e wheau ka mahue tēnei tapenākara ōku, ka pērā anō me tā tō tātou Ariki, me tā Īhu Karaiti, i whakakite mai ai ki ahau. 15 Ka puta anō hoki tōku uaua kia mau tonu tō koutou mahara ki ēnei mea i muri i tōku matenga.

16 Ehara hoki i te mea he whai tā mātou i ngā kupu i titoa e te whakaaro tinihanga, i te whakapuakanga o te kaha, o te haerenga mai o tō tātou Ariki, o Īhu Karaiti ki a koutou; engari he kaititiro anō mātou ki tōna nui. 17 I riro hoki i a ia he hōnore, he korōria nā te Atua Matua, i te putanga mai o taua reo ki a ia i roto i te korōria nui rawa, "Ko tāku Tama tēnei i aroha ai, ko tāku i āhuareka ai." 18 I rongo anō mātou ki tēnei reo e puta mai ana i te rangi, i a mātou i tōna taha i runga i te maunga tapu.
