1 In jenen Tagen aber erscheint Johannes der Täufer und predigt in der Wüste des jüdischen Landes

2 und spricht: Tut Buße, denn das Himmelreich ist nahe herbeigekommen!

3 Das ist der, von welchem gesagt ist durch den Propheten Jesaja, der da spricht: »Eine Stimme ruft in der Wüste: Bereitet den Weg des Herrn, machet seine Pfade eben!«

4 Er aber, Johannes, hatte ein Kleid von Kamelhaaren und einen ledernen Gürtel um seine Lenden; und seine Speise waren Heuschrecken und wilder Honig.

5 Da zog zu ihm hinaus Jerusalem und ganz Judäa und die ganze umliegende Landschaft des Jordan,

6 und es wurden von ihm getauft im Jordan, die ihre Sünden bekannten.

1 And in those days cometh John the Baptist, proclaiming in the wilderness of Judea,

2 and saying, Reform, for come nigh hath the reign of the heavens,

3 for this is he who was spoken of by Isaiah the prophet, saying, A voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, straight make ye His paths.

4 And this John had his clothing of camels hair, and a girdle of skin round his loins, and his nourishment was locusts and honey of the field.

5 Then were going forth unto him Jerusalem, and all Judea, and all the region round about the Jordan,

6 and they were baptized in the Jordan by him, confessing their sins.
