1 Agora, para vós, ó sacerdotes, é este mandamento.2 Se não ouvirdes, e se não aplicardes o vosso coração a dar glória ao meu nome, diz Jeová dos exércitos, enviarei sobre vós a maldição, e amaldiçoarei as vossas bênçãos; já as tenho amaldiçoado, porque não aplicais a isso o vosso coração.3 Eis que reprovarei a semente por causa de vós, e atirar-vos-ei à cara com o esterco, sim com o esterco dos vossos sacrifícios; e juntamente com ele sereis levados.4 Sabereis que vos enviei este mandamento, para que a minha aliança fosse com Levi, diz Jeová dos exércitos.5 A minha aliança com ele foi de vida e de paz; eu lhas dei para que me temesse, e ele me temeu, e teve medo do meu nome.6 A lei da verdade esteve na sua boca, e a injustiça não se achou nos seus lábios; ele andou comigo em paz e em eqüidade, e da iniqüidade apartou a muitos.7 Pois os lábios do sacerdote devem guardar a ciência, e da sua boca devem os homens procurar a lei; porque ele é o mensageiro de Jeová dos exércitos.8 Mas vós vos tendes desviado do caminho; e tendes feito a muitos tropeçar na lei; tendes corrompido a aliança de Levi, diz Jeová dos exércitos.9 Portanto também eu vos tenho feito desprezíveis e vis diante de todo o povo, assim como vós não tendes observado os meus caminhos, mas vos tendes deixado levar de respeitos humanos na lei.10 Não temos todos nós um mesmo pai? não nos criou um mesmo Deus? por que nos havemos aleivosamente, cada um com seu irmão, profanando a aliança de nossos pais?11 Judá se tem havido aleivosamente; e uma abominação se comete em Israel e em Jerusalém; porque Judá tem profanado a santidade de Jeová a qual ele ama, e se casou com a filha dum deus estranho.12 No caso do homem que fizer isto, Jeová exterminará das tendas de Jacó, o que vela e o que responde e o que faz ofertas a Jeová dos exércitos.13 Ainda fazeis mais isto; cobris de lágrimas, de choro e de gemidos o altar de Jeová, de sorte que Ele não olha mais para a oferta nem a aceitará com prazer da vossa mão.14 Todavia dizeis: Por que? Porque Jeová tem sido testemunha entre ti e a mulher da tua mocidade, contra a qual te hás havido aleivosamente, sendo ela a tua companheira e a mulher da tua aliança.15 Não fez ele somente um, ainda que lhe sobrava o espírito? E por que somente este um? Ele buscava uma semente pia. Portanto guardai o vosso espírito, e não se haja alguém aleivosamente contra a mulher da sua mocidade.16 Pois aborreço o divórcio, diz Jeová, Deus de Israel, e aquele que cobre de violência os seus vestidos, diz Jeová dos exércitos; portanto guardai o vosso espírito, para que não vos hajais aleivosamente.17 Tendes enfadado a Jeová com as vossas palavras. Todavia dizeis: Em que o temos enfadado? Nisto que dizeis: Todo o que faz o mal é bom aos olhos de Jeová, e nestes tais ele se deleita; ou onde está o Deus do juízo?

1 And now, O ye priests, this commandment is to you.2 If you will not hear, and if you will not lay it to heart, to give glory to my name, saith the Lord of hosts: I will send poverty upon you, and will curse your blessings, yea I will curse them, because you have not laid it to heart.3 Behold, I will cast the shoulder to you, and I will scatter upon your face the dung of your solemnities, and it shall take you away with it.4 And you shall know that I sent you this commandment, that my covenant might be with Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.5 My covenant was with him of life and peace: and I gave him fear: and he feared me, and he was afraid before my name.6 The law of truth was in his mouth, and iniquity was not found in his lips: he walked with me in peace, and in equity, and turned many away from iniquity.7 For the lips of the priest shall keep knowledge, and they shall seek the law at his mouth: because he is the angel of the Lord of hosts.8 But you have departed out of the way, and have caused many to stumble at the law: you have made void the covenant of Levi, saith the Lord of hosts.9 Therefore have I also made you contemptible, and base before all people, as you have not kept my ways, and have accepted persons in the law.10 Have we not all one father? hath not one God created us? why then doth every one of us despise his brother, violating the covenant of our fathers?11 Juda hath transgressed, and abomination hath been committed in Israel, and in Jerusalem: for Juda hath profaned the holiness of the Lord, which he loved, and hath married the daughter of a strange God.12 The Lord will cut off the man that hath done this, both the master, and the scholar, out of the tabernacles of Jacob, and him that offereth an offering to the Lord of hosts.13 And this again have you done, you have covered the altar of the Lord with tears, with weeping, and bellowing, so that I have no more a regard to sacrifice, neither do I accept any atonement at your hands.14 And you have said: For what cause? Because the Lord hath been witness between thee, and the wife of thy youth, whom thou hast despised: yet she was thy partner, and the wife of thy covenant.15 Did not one make her, and she is the residue of his spirit? And what doth one seek, but the seed of God? Keep then your spirit, and despise not the wife of thy youth.16 When thou shalt hate her put her away, saith the Lord the God of Israel: but iniquity shall cover his garment, saith the Lord of hosts, keep your spirit, and despise not.17 You have wearied the Lord with your words, and you said: Wherein have we wearied him? In that you say: Every one that doth evil, is good in the sight of the Lord, and such please him: or surely where is the God of judgment?
