Jesus Rejected at Nazareth
16 When he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up, he went into the synagogue on the Sabbath day, as was his custom, and stood up to read. 17 The scroll of the prophet Isaiah was handed to him, so he 4:17 unrolled ¦ opened WHunrolled the scroll and found the place where it is written,
18 "The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
because he has anointed me
to preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me 4:18 to heal the brokenhearted, ¦ --- CTto heal the brokenhearted,
to proclaim release to the captives
and recovery of sight to the blind,
to set free the oppressed,
19 and to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."
20 Then he rolled up the scroll, gave it back to the attendant, and sat down. The eyes of everyone in the synagogue were fixed upon him, 21 and he began speaking to them, saying, "Today this Scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."
