35 While he yet spoke, they come from the ruler of the synagogue's [house] saying, Your daughter is dead: why do you trouble the Teacher any further?36 But Jesus, not heeding the word spoken, says to the ruler of the synagogue, Don't be afraid, only believe.37 And he allowed no man to follow with him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.38 And they come to the house of the ruler of the synagogue; and he sees a tumult, and [many] weeping and wailing greatly.39 And when he had entered in, he says to them, Why do you{} make a tumult, and weep? The child is not dead, but sleeps.40 And they laughed him to scorn. But he, having put them all forth, takes the father of the child and her mother and those who were with him, and goes in where the child was.41 And taking the child by the hand, he says to her, Talitha koum; which is, being interpreted, Girl, I say to you, Arise.42 And immediately the girl rose up, and walked; for she was twelve years old. And they were amazed immediately with a great amazement.43 And he charged them much that no man should know this: and he commanded that [something] should be given her to eat.
