Why do the nations rage, And the peoples meditate a vain thing?
The kings of the earth set themselves, And the rulers take counsel together, Against Yahweh, and against his anointed, [saying],
Let us break apart their bonds, And cast away from us their cords.
He who sits in the heavens will laugh: The Lord will have them in derision.
Then he will speak to them in his wrath, And in his intense displeasure, he will vex them:
Yet I have set my king On Zion my holy hill.
I will tell of the decree: Yahweh said to me, You are my son; This day I have begotten you.
Ask of me, and I will give [you] the nations for your inheritance; And for your possession, the uttermost parts of the earth.
You will shepherd them with a rod of iron; Like a potter's vessel, you will dash them in pieces.
Now therefore you{+} kings, be wise; Be instructed, you{+} judges of the earth.
Serve Yahweh with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
Embrace purity, or else he will be angry, and you{+} will perish in the way, For his wrath will soon be kindled. Blessed are all those who take refuge in him.
