1 Alguns dias depois, Jesus entrou novamente em Cafarnaum e souberam que ele estava em casa.2 Reuniu-se uma tal multidão, que não podiam encontrar lugar nem mesmo junto à porta. E ele os instruía.3 Trouxeram-lhe um paralítico, carregado por quatro homens.4 Como não pudessem apresentar-lho por causa da multidão, descobriram o teto por cima do lugar onde Jesus se achava e, por uma abertura, desceram o leito em que jazia o paralítico.5 Jesus, vendo-lhes a fé, disse ao paralítico: "Filho, perdoados te são os pecados."6 Ora, estavam ali sentados alguns escribas, que diziam uns aos outros:7 "Como pode este homem falar assim? Ele blasfema. Quem pode perdoar pecados senão Deus?"8 Mas Jesus, penetrando logo com seu espírito tios seus íntimos pensamentos, disse-lhes: "Por que pensais isto nos vossos corações?9 Que é mais fácil dizer ao paralítico: Os pecados te são perdoados, ou dizer: Levanta-te, toma o teu leito e anda?10 Ora, para que conheçais o poder concedido ao Filho dó homem sobre a terra {disse ao paralítico},11 eu te ordeno: levanta-te, toma o teu leito e vai para casa."12 No mesmo instante, ele se levantou e, tomando o. leito, foi-se embora à vista de todos. A, multidão inteira encheu-se de profunda admiração e puseram-se a louvar a Deus, dizendo: "Nunca vimos coisa semelhante."13 Jesus saiu de novo para perto do mar e toda a multidão foi ter com ele, e ele os ensinava.14 Quando ia passando, viu Levi, filho de Alfeu, sentado no posto da arrecadação e disse-lhe: "Segue-me." E Levi, levantando-se, seguiu-o.15 Em seguida, pôs-se à mesa na sua casa e muitos cobradores de impostos e pecadores tomaram lugar com ele e seus discípulos; com efeito, eram numerosos os que o seguiam.16 Os escribas, do partido dos fariseus,. vendo-o comer com as pessoas de má vida e publicamos, diziam aos seus discípulos: "Ele come com os publicamos e com gente de má vida? "17 Ouvindo-os, Jesus replicou: "Os sãos não precisam de médico, mas os enfermos; não vim chamar os justos, mas os pecadores."18 Ora, os discípulos de João e os fariseus jejuavam. Por isso, foram-lhe perguntar: "Por que jejuam os discípulos de João e os dos fariseus, mas os teus discípulos não jejuam?"19 Jesus respondeu-lhes: "Podem porventura jejuar os convidados das núpcias, enquanto está com eles o esposo? Enquanto têm consigo o esposo, não lhes é -possível jejuar.20 Dias virão, porém, em que o esposo lhes será tirado, e então jejuarão.21 "Ninguém prega retalho de pano novo em roupa velha; do contrário, o remendo arranca novo pedaço da veste usada e torna-se pior o rasgão.22 E ninguém põe vinho novo em odres velhos; se o fizer, o vinho os arrebentará e perder-se-á juntamente com os odres mas para vinho novo, odres novos."23 Num dia de sábado, o Senhor caminhava pelos campos e seus discípulos, andando, começaram a colher espigas.24 Os fariseus observaram-lhe: "Vede! Por que fazem eles no sábado o que não é permitido?" Jesus respondeu-lhes:25 "Nunca lestes o que fez Davi, quando se achou em necessidade e teve fome, ele e os seus companheiros?26 Ele entrou na casa de Deus, sendo Abiatar príncipe dos sacerdotes, e comeu os pães da proposição, dos quais só aos sacerdotes era permitido comer, e os deu aos seus companheiros."27 E dizia-lhes: "O sábado foi feito para o homem, e não o homem para o sábado;28 e, para dizer tudo, o Filho do homem é senhor também do sábado."

1 And again he entered into Capernaum after [some] days, and it was heard that he was in the house.2 And soon many were gathered together, insomuch that there was no room to receive [them], no, not so much as about the door; and he preached the word unto them.3 And they came unto him, bringing a paralytic, carried by four [men].4 And when they could not come near unto him for the crowd, they uncovered the roof [of the house] where he was; and when they had broken it open, they let down the bed in which the paralytic lay.5 When Jesus saw their faith, he said unto the paralytic, Son, thy sins are forgiven thee.6 But there were certain of the scribes sitting there and thinking in their hearts,7 Why does this [fellow] so blaspheme? Who can forgive sins but God only?8 And Jesus, knowing afterward in his spirit that they so reasoned within themselves, said unto them, Why think ye these things in your hearts?9 What is easier to say to the paralytic, [Thy] sins are forgiven thee, or to say, Arise and take up thy bed and walk?10 But that ye may know that the Son of man has power on earth to forgive sins (he spoke to the sick of the palsy),11 I say unto thee, Arise and take up thy bed and go to thy house.12 And by and by he arose, took up the bed, and went forth before them all; insomuch that they were all amazed and glorified God, saying, We never saw anything like unto this.13 And he went again unto the sea; and all the multitude resorted unto him, and he taught them.14 And as he passed by, he saw Levi the [son] of Alphaeus sitting at the receipt of custom and said unto him, Follow me. And he arose and followed him.15 And it came to pass, that as Jesus sat at the table in his house, many publicans and sinners sat also at the table together with Jesus and his disciples: for there were many and they had followed him.16 And the scribes and Pharisees, seeing him eat with publicans and sinners, said unto his disciples, How is it that he eats and drinks with publicans and sinners?17 When Jesus heard [it], he said unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick; I came not to call the righteous, but the sinners to repentance.18 And the disciples of John and of the Pharisees did fast and therefore came and said unto him, Why do the disciples of John and of the Pharisees fast, but thy disciples fast not?19 And Jesus said unto them, Can those who are in a wedding fast while the bridegroom is with them? as long as they have the bridegroom with them, they cannot fast.20 But the days will come when the bridegroom shall be taken away from them, and then they shall fast in those days.21 No one mends an old garment with a new piece of cloth, [or] else the new piece that filled it up tears away from the old, and the rent is made worse.22 And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; [or] else the new wine bursts the wineskins, and the wine is spilled, and the wineskins are lost; but new wine must be poured into new wineskins.23 And it came to pass that as he went through the planted fields [again] on the sabbath day, his disciples began, as they walked, to pluck the ears of grain.24 And the Pharisees said unto him, Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?25 And he said unto them, Have ye never read what David did when he had need and was hungry, he and those that were with him?26 How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest and ate the showbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to those who were with him?27 And he said unto them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath;28 therefore the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath.:
