1 O rei Assuero impôs um tributo sobre o continente e sobre as ilhas do mar.2 Tudo o que concerne a seu poder e suas façanhas e os detalhes sobre a elevação de Mardoqueu pelo rei estão escritos no livro das Crônicas dos reis dos medos e dos persas.3 Porque o judeu Mardoqueu era o primeiro depois do rei Assuero. Ele gozava de grande consideração entre os judeus e era amado pela multidão de seus irmãos. Procurava o bem de seu povo e falava a favor da felicidade de toda a sua nação.

1 And king Achashverosh imposed a tribute upon the land, and the isles of the sea.2 And all the acts of his strength and of his might, and the exposition of the greatness of Mordecai, wherewith the king made him great, behold they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Media and Persia.3 For Mordecai the Jew was the second in rank after king Achashverosh, and great among the Jews, and acceptable to the multitude of his brethren, a promoter of good to his people, and speaking peace to all its seed.
