39 He who seeks his life will lose it; and he who loses his life for my sake will find it.

29 Because it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in him, but also to suffer on his behalf,

19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous,

but Yahweh delivers him out of them all.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Could oppression, or anguish, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

3 If I give away all my goods to feed the poor, and if I give my body to be burned, but don’t have love, it profits me nothing.

3 He humbled you, allowed you to be hungry, and fed you with manna, which you didn’t know, neither did your fathers know, that he might teach you that man does not live by bread only, but man lives by every word that proceeds out of Yahweh’s mouth.

17 "Behold, happy is the man whom God corrects.

Therefore do not despise the chastening of the Almighty.

5 For as the sufferings of Christ abound to us, even so our comfort also abounds through Christ.

17 For our light affliction, which is for the moment, works for us more and more exceedingly an eternal weight of glory,

1 Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind; for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin,

21 For you were called to this, because Christ also suffered for us, leaving you an example, that you should follow his steps,

10 But may the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a little while, perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you.

22 Having therefore obtained the help that is from God, I stand to this day testifying both to small and great, saying nothing but what the prophets and Moses said would happen, 23 how the Christ must suffer, and how, by the resurrection of the dead, he would be first to proclaim light both to these people and to the Gentiles."

2 Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

10 that I may know him and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, becoming conformed to his death,

4 Surely he has borne our sickness

and carried our suffering;

yet we considered him plagued,

struck by God, and afflicted.

14 But even if you should suffer for righteousness’ sake, you are blessed. "Don’t fear what they fear, neither be troubled."

3 He was despised

and rejected by men,

a man of suffering

and acquainted with disease.

He was despised as one from whom men hide their face;

and we didn’t respect him.

28 They stripped him and put a scarlet robe on him. 29 They braided a crown of thorns and put it on his head, and a reed in his right hand; and they kneeled down before him and mocked him, saying, "Hail, King of the Jews!"

3 Not only this, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces perseverance; 4 and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope;

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, through the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

20 Then Job arose, and tore his robe, and shaved his head, and fell down on the ground, and worshiped. 21 He said, "Naked I came out of my mother’s womb, and naked will I return there. Yahweh gave, and Yahweh has taken away. Blessed be Yahweh’s name."

23 In Hades, he lifted up his eyes, being in torment, and saw Abraham far off, and Lazarus at his bosom. 24 He cried and said, ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water and cool my tongue! For I am in anguish in this flame.’

18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which will be revealed toward us.

38 He who doesn’t take his cross and follow after me isn’t worthy of me.
