Revelation 1

1 This is the Revelation of Jesus Christ,*1:1 "Christ" means "Anointed One". which God gave him to show to his servants the things which must happen soon, which he sent and made known by his angel*1:1 or, messenger (here and wherever angel is mentioned) to his servant, John, 2 who testified to God’s word and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, about everything that he saw.

3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and keep the things that are written in it, for the time is near.

4 John, to the seven assemblies that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace from God, who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits who are before his throne; 5 and from Jesus Christ, the faithful witness, the firstborn of the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us, and washed us from our sins by his blood— 6 and he made us to be a Kingdom, priests✝1:6 Exodus 19:6; Isaiah 61:6 to his God and Father—to him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.

7 Behold,*1:7 "Behold", from "ἰδοὺ", means look at, take notice, observe, see, or gaze at. It is often used as an interjection. he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, including those who pierced him. All the tribes of the earth will mourn over him. Even so, Amen.

8 "I am the Alpha and the Omega, * 1:8 TR adds "the Beginning and the End" " says the Lord God,*1:8 TR omits "God" "who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty."

9 I John, your brother and partner with you in the oppression, Kingdom, and perseverance in Christ Jesus, was on the isle that is called Patmos because of God’s Word and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord’s day, and I heard behind me a loud voice, like a trumpet 11 saying,*1:11 TR adds "I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last." "What you see, write in a book and send to the seven assemblies:*1:11 TR adds "which are in Asia" to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia, and to Laodicea."

12 I turned to see the voice that spoke with me. Having turned, I saw seven golden lamp stands. 13 And among the lamp stands was one like a son of man,✝1:13 Daniel 7:13 clothed with a robe reaching down to his feet, and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 His head and his hair were white as white wool, like snow. His eyes were like a flame of fire. 15 His feet were like burnished brass, as if it had been refined in a furnace. His voice was like the voice of many waters. 16 He had seven stars in his right hand. Out of his mouth proceeded a sharp two-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining at its brightest. 17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet like a dead man.

He laid his right hand on me, saying, "Don’t be afraid. I am the first and the last, 18 and the Living one. I was dead, and behold, I am alive forever and ever. Amen. I have the keys of Death and of Hades.*1:18 or, Hell 19 Write therefore the things which you have seen, and the things which are, and the things which will happen hereafter. 20 The mystery of the seven stars which you saw in my right hand, and the seven golden lamp stands is this: The seven stars are the angels*1:20 or, messengers (here and wherever angels are mentioned) of the seven assemblies. The seven lamp stands are seven assemblies.

1 La Révélation de Jésus Christ, que Dieu lui a donnée pour découvrir à ses serviteurs les choses qui doivent arriver bientôt, et qui les a fait connaître en les envoyant par son Ange à Jean son serviteur ; 2 Qui a annoncé la parole de Dieu, et le témoignage de Jésus-Christ, et toutes les choses qu’il a vues. 3 Bienheureux est celui qui lit, et ceux qui écoutent les paroles de cette prophétie, et qui gardent les choses qui y sont écrites : car le temps est proche. 4 Jean aux sept Eglises qui sont en Asie, que la grâce et la paix vous soient données de la part de celui QUI EST, QUI ÉTAIT, et QUI EST A VENIR, et de la part des sept Esprits qui sont devant son trône. 5 Et de la part de Jésus-Christ, qui est le témoin fidèle, le premier-né d’entre les morts, et le Prince des Rois de la terre. 6 A lui dis-je, qui nous a aimés, et qui nous a lavés de nos péchés dans son sang, et nous a faits Rois et Sacrificateurs à Dieu son Père, à lui soit la gloire et la force aux siècles des siècles, Amen ! 7 Voici il vient avec les nuées, et tout œil le verra, et ceux même qui l’ont percé ; et toutes les Tribus de la terre se lamenteront devant lui ; oui, Amen ! 8 Je suis l’Alpha et l’Oméga, le commencement et la fin, dit le Seigneur, QUI EST, QUI ÉTAIT, et QUI EST A VENIR, le Tout-Puissant. 9 Moi Jean, qui suis aussi votre frère et qui participe à l’affliction, au règne, et à la patience de Jésus-Christ, j’étais en l’île appelée Patmos pour la parole de Dieu, et pour le témoignage de Jésus-Christ. 10 Or je fus ravi en esprit un jour de Dimanche, et j’entendis derrière moi une grande voix, comme est le son d’une trompette, 11 Qui disait :Je suis l’Alpha et l’Oméga, le premier et le dernier : Ecris dans un livre ce que tu vois, et envoie-le aux sept Eglises qui sont en Asie ; savoir à Ephèse, à Smyrne, à Pergame, à Thyatire, à Sardes, à Philadelphie, et à Laodicée. 12 Alors je me tournai pour voir celui dont la voix m’avait parlé, et m’étant tourné, je vis sept chandeliers d’or ; 13 Et au milieu des sept chandeliers d’or un personnage semblable à un homme, vêtu d’une longue robe, et ceint d’une ceinture d’or à l’endroit des mamelles. 14 Sa tête et ses cheveux étaient blancs comme de la laine blanche, et comme de la neige, et ses yeux étaient comme une flamme de feu. 15 Ses pieds étaient semblables à de l’airain très-luisant, comme s’ils eussent été embrasés dans une fournaise ; et sa voix était comme le bruit des grosses eaux. 16 Et il avait en sa main droite sept étoiles, et de sa bouche sortait une épée aiguë à deux tranchants, et son visage était semblable au soleil, quand il luit en sa force. 17 Et lorsque je l’eus vu, je tombai à ses pieds comme mort, et il mit sa main droite sur moi, en me disant : ne crains point, je suis le premier, et le dernier ; 18 Et je vis, mais j’ai été mort, et voici, je suis vivant aux siècles des siècles, Amen ! Et je tiens les clefs de l’enfer et de la mort. 19 Ecris les choses que tu as vues, celles qui sont présentement, et celles qui doivent arriver ensuite. 20 Le mystère des sept étoiles que tu as vues en ma main droite, et les sept chandeliers d’or. Les sept étoiles sont les Anges des sept Eglises ; et les sept chandeliers que tu as vus sont les sept Eglises.
