1 Yahweh’s*1:1 "Yahweh" is God’s proper Name, sometimes rendered "LORD" (all caps) in other translations. word which came to Zephaniah, the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hezekiah, in the days of Josiah, the son of Amon, king of Judah.

2 I will utterly sweep away everything from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh. 3 I will sweep away man and animal. I will sweep away the birds of the sky, the fish of the sea, and the heaps of rubble with the wicked. I will cut off man from the surface of the earth, says Yahweh. 4 I will stretch out my hand against Judah and against all the inhabitants of Jerusalem. I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place—the name of the idolatrous and pagan priests, 5 those who worship the army of the sky on the housetops, those who worship and swear by Yahweh and also swear by Malcam, 6 those who have turned back from following Yahweh, and those who haven’t sought Yahweh nor inquired after him.

7 Be silent at the presence of the Lord*1:7 The word translated "Lord" is "Adonai." Yahweh, for the day of Yahweh is at hand. For Yahweh has prepared a sacrifice. He has consecrated his guests. 8 It will happen in the day of Yahweh’s sacrifice that I will punish the princes, the king’s sons, and all those who are clothed with foreign clothing. 9 In that day, I will punish all those who leap over the threshold, who fill their master’s house with violence and deceit.

10 In that day, says Yahweh, there will be the noise of a cry from the fish gate, a wailing from the second quarter, and a great crashing from the hills. 11 Wail, you inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the people of Canaan are undone! All those who were loaded with silver are cut off. 12 It will happen at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps, and I will punish the men who are settled on their dregs, who say in their heart, "Yahweh will not do good, neither will he do evil." 13 Their wealth will become a plunder, and their houses a desolation. Yes, they will build houses, but won’t inhabit them. They will plant vineyards, but won’t drink their wine.

14 The great day of Yahweh is near. It is near and hurries greatly, the voice of the day of Yahweh. The mighty man cries there bitterly. 15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of distress and anguish, a day of trouble and ruin, a day of darkness and gloom, a day of clouds and blackness, 16 a day of the trumpet and alarm against the fortified cities and against the high battlements. 17 I will bring such distress on men that they will walk like blind men because they have sinned against Yahweh. Their blood will be poured out like dust and their flesh like dung. 18 Neither their silver nor their gold will be able to deliver them in the day of Yahweh’s wrath, but the whole land will be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he will make an end, yes, a terrible end, of all those who dwell in the land.

Baal, numele slujitorilor săi*Osea 10:5. și preoții împreună cu ei, 5 pe cei ce se închină*2 Împ. 23:12.Ier. 19:13. pe acoperișuri înaintea oștirii cerurilor, pe cei ce se închină*1 Împ. 18:21.2 Împ. 17:33,41. jurând*Is. 48:1.Osea 4:15. pe Domnul, dar care jură și pe împăratul lor, Malcam*Ios. 23:7.1 Împ. 11:33., 6 pe cei ce*Is. 1:4.Ier. 2:13,17;15:6. s-au abătut de la Domnul și pe cei ce nu caută*Osea 7:7. pe Domnul, nici nu întreabă de El." 7 Tăcere*Hab. 2:20.Zah. 2:13. înaintea Domnului Dumnezeu! Căci*Is. 13:6. ziua Domnului este aproape, căci Domnul*Is. 34:6.Ier. 46:10.Ezec. 39:17.Apoc. 19:17. a pregătit jertfa, Și-a sfințit oaspeții. 8 „În ziua jertfei Domnului, voi pedepsi pe voievozii*Ier. 39:6. și pe fiii împăratului și pe toți cei ce poartă haine străine. 9 În ziua aceea, voi pedepsi și pe toți cei ce sar peste prag, pe cei ce umplu de silnicie și de înșelăciune casa stăpânului lor. 10 În ziua aceea", zice Domnul, „se vor auzi strigăte de jale la Poarta Peștilor*2 Cron. 33:14., urlete în cealaltă mahala a cetății și un mare prăpăd pe dealuri. 11 Văitați-vă, locuitori din*Iac. 5:1. Macteș! Căci toți cei ce fac negoț sunt nimiciți, toți cei încărcați cu argint sunt nimiciți cu desăvârșire. 12 În vremea aceea, voi scormoni Ierusalimul cu felinare și voi pedepsi pe toți oamenii care se bizuiesc pe drojdiile*Ier. 48:11.Amos 6:1. lor și zic*Ps. 94:7. în inima lor: ‘Domnul nu va face nici bine, nici rău!’ 13 Averile lor vor fi de jaf și casele lor vor fi pustiite; vor zidi case, și nu*Deut. 28:30,39.Amos 5:11. le vor locui, vor sădi vii, și nu vor bea vin*Mica 6:15. din ele." 14 Ziua cea mare a Domnului este aproape*Ioel 2:1,11., este aproape și vine în grabă mare! Da, este aproape ziua cea amarnică a Domnului, și viteazul țipă cu amar. 15 Ziua*Is. 22:5.Ier. 30:7.Ioel 2:2,11.Amos 5:18. Vers. 18. aceea este o zi de mânie, o zi de necaz și de groază, o zi de pustiire și de nimicire, o zi de întuneric și de negură, o zi de nori și de întunecime, 16 o zi în care vor răsuna trâmbița*Ier. 4:19. și strigătele de război împotriva cetăților întărite și a turnurilor înalte. 17 „Atunci voi pune pe oameni la strâmtoare și vor bâjbâi ca niște orbi*Deut. 28:29.Is. 59:10., pentru că au păcătuit împotriva Domnului; de aceea le voi vărsa sângele*Ps. 79:3. ca praful și carnea, ca gunoiul*Ps. 83:10.Ier. 9:22;16:4.!" 18 Nici argintul*Prov. 11:4.Ezec. 7:19., nici aurul lor nu va putea să-i izbăvească în ziua mâniei Domnului, ci toată țara va fi mistuită*Cap. 3:8. de focul geloziei Lui, căci va nimici deodată pe toți*Vers. 2,3. locuitorii țării.
