| 1 | Elihu also proceeded, and said, | És folytatá Elihu, és monda: |
| 2 | Suffer me a little, and I will show thee that I have yet to speak on God's behalf. | Várj még egy kevéssé, majd felvilágosítlak, mert az Istenért még van mit mondanom. |
| 3 | I will bring my knowledge from afar, and will ascribe righteousness to my Maker. | Tudásomat messzünnen veszem, és az én teremtõmnek igazat adok. |
| 4 | For truly my words shall not be false: he that is perfect in knowledge is with thee. | Mert az én beszédem bizonyára nem hazugság; tökéletes tudású [ember áll] melletted. |
| 5 | Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any: he is mighty in strength and wisdom. | Ímé, az Isten hatalmas, még sem vet meg semmit; hatalmas az õ lelkének ereje. |
| 6 | He preserveth not the life of the wicked: but giveth right to the poor. | Nem tartja meg a gonosznak életét, de a szegénynek igaz törvényt teszen. |
| 7 | He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous: but with kings are they on the throne; yes, he doth establish them for ever, and they are exalted. | Nem veszi le az igazról szemeit, sõt a királyok mellé, a trónba ülteti õket örökre, hogy felmagasztaltassanak. |
| 8 | And if they are bound in fetters, and are held in cords of affliction; | És ha békókba veretnek, és fogva tartatnak a nyomorúság kötelein: |
| 9 | Then he showeth them their work, and their transgressions that they have exceeded. | Tudtokra adja cselekedetöket, és vétkeiket, hogyha elhatalmaztak [rajtok]. |
| 10 | He openeth also their ear to discipline, and commandeth that they return from iniquity. | Megnyitja füleiket a feddõzésnek és megparancsolja, hogy a vétekbõl megtérjenek: |
| 11 | If they obey and serve him, they shall spend their days in prosperity, and their years in pleasures. | Ha engednek és szolgálnak néki, napjaikat jóban végzik el, és az õ esztendeiket gyönyörûségekben. |
| 12 | But if they obey not, they shall perish by the sword, and they shall die without knowledge. | Ha pedig nem engednek, fegyverrel veretnek által, és tudatlanságban múlnak ki. |
| 13 | But the hypocrites in heart heap up wrath: they cry not when he bindeth them. | De az álnok szívûek haragot táplálnak, nem kiáltanak, mikor megkötözi õket. |
| 14 | They die in youth, and their life is among the unclean. | Azért ifjúságukban hal meg az õ lelkök, és életök a paráznákéhoz hasonló. |
| 15 | He delivereth the poor in his affliction, and openeth their ears in oppression. | A nyomorultat megszabadítja az õ nyomorúságától, és a szorongattatással megnyitja fülöket. |
| 16 | Even so would he have removed thee out of the strait into a broad place, where there is no straitness; and that which should be set on thy table would be full of fatness. | Téged is kiszabadítana az ínség torkából tág mezõre, a hol nincs szorultság, és asztalod étke kövérséggel lenne rakva; |
| 17 | But thou hast fulfilled the judgment of the wicked: judgment and justice take hold on thee. | De ha gonosz ítélettel vagy tele, úgy utolérnek az ítélet és igazság. |
| 18 | Because there is wrath, beware lest he take thee away with his stroke: then a great ransom cannot deliver thee. | Csakhogy a harag ne ragadjon téged csúfkodásra, és a nagy váltságdíj se tántorítson el. |
| 19 | Will he esteem thy riches? no, not gold, nor all the forces of strength. | Ad-é valamit a te gazdagságodra? Sem aranyra, sem semmiféle erõfeszítésre! |
| 20 | Desire not the night, when people are cut off in their place. | Ne kívánjad az éjszakát, a mely népeket mozdít ki helyökbõl. |
| 21 | Take heed, regard not iniquity: for this hast thou chosen rather than affliction. | Vigyázz! ne pártolj a bûnhöz, noha azt a nyomorúságnál jobban szereted. |
| 22 | Behold, God exalteth by his power: who teacheth like him? | Ímé, mily fenséges az Isten az õ erejében; kicsoda az, a ki úgy tanítson, mint õ? |
| 23 | Who hath enjoined him his way? or who can say, Thou hast wrought iniquity? | Kicsoda szabta meg az õ útjait, vagy ki mondhatja [azt]: Igazságtalanságot cselekedtél? |
| 24 | Remember that thou magnify his work, which men behold. | Legyen rá gondod, hogy magasztaljad az õ cselekedetét, a melyrõl énekelnek az emberek! |
| 25 | Every man may see it; man may behold it afar off. | Minden ember azt szemléli; a halandó távolról is látja. |
| 26 | Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out. | Ímé, az Isten fenséges, mi nem ismerhetjük õt! esztendeinek száma sem nyomozható ki. |
| 27 | For he maketh small the drops of water: they pour down rain according to the vapor of it. | Hogyha magához szívja a vízcseppeket, ködébõl mint esõ cseperegnek alá, |
| 28 | Which the clouds do drop and distill upon man abundantly. | A melyet a fellegek [özönnel] öntenek, és hullatnak le temérdek emberre. |
| 29 | Also can any understand the spreadings of the clouds, or the noise of his tabernacle? | De sõt értheti-é valaki a felhõ szétoszlását, az õ sátorának zúgását? |
| 30 | Behold, he spreadeth his light upon it, and covereth the bottom of the sea. | Ímé, szétterjeszti magára az õ világosságát, és ráborítja a tengernek gyökereit. |
| 31 | For by them he judgeth the people; he giveth food in abundance. | Mert ezek által ítéli meg a népeket, ád eledelt bõségesen. |
| 32 | With clouds he covereth the light; and commandeth it not to shine by the intervening cloud. | Kezeit elborítja villámlással, és kirendeli a lázadó ellen. |
| 33 | The noise of it showeth concerning it, the cattle also concerning the vapor. | Az õ dörgése ad hírt felõle, mint a barom a közeledõ viharról. [ (Job 36:34) Ezért remeg az én szívem, és csaknem kiszökik helyébõl. ] |
