| 1 | Then answered Bildad the Shuhite, and said, | Akkor felele a sukhi Bildád, és monda: |
| 2 | How long wilt thou speak these things? and how long shall the words of thy mouth be like a strong wind? | Meddig szólasz még efféléket, és lesz a te szádnak beszéde sebes szél? |
| 3 | Doth God pervert judgment; or doth the Almighty pervert justice? | Elforgatja-é Isten az ítéletet, avagy a Mindenható elforgatja-é az igazságot? |
| 4 | If thy children have sinned against him, and he hath cast them away for their transgression; | Ha a te fiaid vétkeztek ellene, úgy az õ gonoszságuk miatt vetette el õket. |
| 5 | If thou wouldst seek to God betimes, and make thy supplication to the Almighty; | De ha te az Istent buzgón keresed, és a Mindenhatóhoz [bocsánatért] könyörögsz; |
| 6 | If thou wert pure and upright; surely now he would awake for thee, and make the habitation of thy righteousness prosperous. | Ha tiszta és becsületes vagy, akkor legott felserken éretted, és békességessé teszi a te igazságodnak hajlékát. |
| 7 | Though thy beginning was small, yet thy latter end would greatly increase. | És ha elõbbi állapotod szegényes volt, ez utáni állapotod boldog lesz nagyon. |
| 8 | For inquire, I pray thee, of the former age, and prepare thyself to the search of their fathers: | Mert kérdezd meg csak az azelõtti nemzedéket, és készülj csak fel az õ atyáikról való tudakozódásra! |
| 9 | (For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow:) | Mert mi csak tegnapiak vagyunk és semmit nem tudunk, mert a mi napjaink csak árnyék e földön. |
| 10 | Will they not teach thee, and tell thee, and utter words out of their heart? | Nem tanítanak-é meg azok téged? Nem mondják-é meg néked, és nem beszélik-é meg szívök szerint néked?! |
| 11 | Can the rush grow without mire? can the flag grow without water? | Felnövekedik-é a káka mocsár nélkül, felnyúlik-é a sás víz nélkül? |
| 12 | Whilst it is yet in its greenness, and not cut down, it withereth before any other herb. | Még gyenge korában, ha fel nem szakasztják is, minden fûnél elébb elszárad. |
| 13 | So are the paths of all that forget God; and the hypocrite's hope shall perish: | Ilyenek az ösvényeik mindazoknak, a kik Istenrõl elfeledkeznek, és a képmutatónak reménysége [is ]elvész. |
| 14 | Whose hope shall be cut off, and whose trust shall be a spider's web. | Mivel szétfoszol bizakodása, és bizodalma olyan lesz, mint a pókháló. |
| 15 | He shall lean upon his house, but it shall not stand: he shall hold it fast, but it shall not endure. | Házára támaszkodik, és nem áll meg; kapaszkodik belé, és nem marad meg. |
| 16 | He is green before the sun, and his branch shooteth forth in his garden. | Bõ nedvességû ez a napfényen [is,] és ágazata túlnõ a kertjén. |
| 17 | His roots are wrapped about the heap, and seeth the place of stones. | Gyökerei átfonódnak a kõhalmon; átfúródnak a szikla-rétegen. |
| 18 | If he shall destroy him from his place, then it shall deny him, saying, I have not seen thee. | Ámha kiirtják helyérõl, megtagadja ez õt: Nem láttalak! |
| 19 | Behold, this is the joy of his way, and out of the earth shall others grow. | Ímé ez az õ pályájának öröme! És más hajt ki a porból. |
| 20 | Behold, God will not cast away a perfect man, neither will he help the evil doers: | Ímé az Isten nem veti meg az ártatlant, de a gonoszoknak sem ád elõmenetelt. |
| 21 | Till he shall fill thy mouth with laughing, and thy lips with rejoicing. | Még betölti szádat nevetéssel, és ajakidat vigassággal. |
| 22 | They that hate thee shall be clothed with shame; and the dwelling place of the wicked shall come to naught. | Gyûlölõid szégyenbe öltöznek, és a gonoszok sátora megsemmisül. |
