A Bíblia fala sobre o homem como criação de Deus — feito à sua imagem e semelhança, mas também frágil, mortal e necessitado de redenção.
Criado à imagem de Deus
Deus criou o homem à sua imagem. Mas pelo pecado, o homem caiu e passou a depender da graça para ser restaurado.
And God says, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over [the] fish of the sea, and over [the] bird of the heavens, and over livestock, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that is creeping on the earth." And God creates the man in His image; in the image of God He created him, a male and a female He created them.
And they hear the sound of YHWH God walking up and down in the garden at the breeze of the day, and the man and his wife hide themselves from the face of YHWH God in the midst of the trees of the garden.
because of this, even as through one man sin entered into the world, and through sin—death; and thus to all men death passed through, for that all sinned;
so also it has been written: "The first man Adam became a living creature," the last Adam [is] for a life-giving spirit, but that which is spiritual [is] not first, but that which [was] natural, afterward that which [is] spiritual. The first man [is] out of the earth—earthly; the second Man [is] the LORD out of Heaven; as [is] the earthly, such [are] also the earthly; and as [is] the heavenly, such [are] also the heavenly; and according as we bore the image of the earthly, we will also bear the image of the heavenly.
Fragilidade humana
O homem nascido de mulher é de poucos dias e cheio de inquietação. Deus conhece nossa fragilidade e cuida de nós.
"Man, born of woman! Of few days, and full of trouble!
Is mortal man more righteous than God? Is a man cleaner than his Maker?
What [is] man that You magnify him? And that You set Your heart to him?
and one in a certain place testified fully, saying, "What is man, that You are mindful of him, || Or a son of man, that You look after him?
The steps of a man [are] from YHWH, || And man—how does he understand his way?
Renovação e chamado
Despojados do velho homem e revestidos do novo, somos chamados a buscar a justiça, a piedade e o amor.
concerning the former behavior you are to put off the old man, that is corrupt according to the desires of the deceit, and to be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and to put on the new man, which, according to God, was created in righteousness and kindness of the truth.
the enmity in His flesh, having done away [with] the Law of the commands in ordinances, that He might create the two into one new man in Himself, making peace,
and you, O man of God, flee these things, and pursue righteousness, piety, faith, love, endurance, meekness.
When I was a child, I was speaking as a child, I was thinking as a child, I was reasoning as a child, and when I have become a man, I have made useless the things of the child;
For the ways of each are before the eyes of YHWH, || And He is pondering all his paths.
Arrangements of the heart [are] of man, || An answer of the tongue from YHWH.
A confiança errada
Maldito o homem que confia no homem. O homem de duplo ânimo é instável em todos os seus caminhos.
Thus said YHWH: "Cursed [is] the man who trusts in man, || And has made flesh his arm, || And whose heart turns from YHWH.
for do not let that man suppose that he will receive anything from the LORD— a soul-split man [is] unstable in all his ways.
You may not rebuke an elder, but exhort [him] as a father, younger persons as brothers,
