Paixão
A Bíblia nos chama a dominar as paixões e desejos da carne. O cristão é chamado a viver pelo Espírito, crucificando as obras da carne e buscando a santidade em tudo.
Crucificar a carne
Os que são de Cristo crucificaram a carne com suas paixões e concupiscências. O domínio próprio é fruto do Espírito Santo.
24 And those who are Christs have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts.
5 Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: sexual perversion, uncleanness, passion, evil lusts, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
11 Beloved, I beg you as foreigners and sojourners, abstain from fleshly lusts which war against the soul,
4 that each of you should know how to possess his own vessel in sanctification and honor,5 not in passion of lust, like the Gentiles, who do not know God;
Tudo para a glória de Deus
Quer comamos, quer bebamos, tudo deve ser feito para a glória de Deus. Devemos fugir das paixões que guerreiam contra a alma.
31 Therefore, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
9 but if they cannot exercise self-control, let them marry. For it is better to marry than to be on fire.
26 For this reason God gives them up to vile passions. For even their women change the natural use for what is contrary to nature.27 Likewise also the men, abandoning the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust toward one another, men with men performing what is shameful, and receiving the retribution within themselves, the penalty which is fitting for their error.
3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own lusts, desiring to hear pleasant things, they will heap up for themselves teachers;4 and they will turn their ears away from the truth, and be turned aside to myths.
3 You ask and do not receive, because you ask amiss, that you may spend it on your lusts.
