11 The Lord spoke to Moses, 12 "I have heard the complaints of the Israelites. Tell them: At twilight you will eat meat, and in the morning you will eat bread until you are full. Then you will know that I am the Lord your God."

13 So at evening quail  * came and covered the camp. In the morning there was a layer of dew all around the camp. 14 When the layer of dew evaporated, there were fine flakes on the desert surface, as fine as frost on the ground. 15 When the Israelites saw it, they asked one another, "What is it? " because they didn’t know what it was.

Moses told them, "It is the bread the Lord has given you to eat.  *

31 The house of Israel named the substance manna.  *,* It resembled coriander seed, was white, and tasted like wafers made with honey.

23 He gave a command to the clouds above

and opened the doors of heaven.  *

24 He rained manna for them to eat;

he gave them grain from heaven.  *

25 People  * ate the bread of angels.  *

He sent them an abundant supply of food.  *

14 He causes grass to grow for the livestock

and provides crops for man to cultivate,

producing food from the earth,  *

15 wine that makes human hearts glad —

making his face shine with oil —

and bread that sustains human hearts.  *

32 Jesus said to them, "Truly I tell you, Moses*didn’t give you the bread from heaven, but my Father gives you the true bread from heaven.33 For the bread of God is the one who comes down from heaven and gives life to the world."

34 Then they said, "Sir, give us this bread always."

35 "I am*the bread of life," Jesus told them. "No one who comes to me*will ever be hungry,*and no one who believes in me*will ever be thirsty*again.

48 I am the bread of life.49 Your ancestors ate the manna*in the wilderness,*and they died.50 This is the bread that comes down from heaven so that anyone may eat of it and not die.*51 I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this bread he will live*forever.*The bread that I will give for the life*of the world is my flesh."*

3 He humbled you by letting you go hungry; then he gave you manna to eat, which you and your ancestors had not known, so that you might learn that man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.  *

4 He answered, "It is written: Man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."*,*

19 And he took bread, gave thanks, broke it, gave it to them, and said, "This is my body,*which is given for you. Do this in remembrance*of me."

26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink the cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death  * until he comes.  *

16 The cup  * of blessing  * that we bless, is it not a sharing in the blood of Christ? The bread  * that we break, is it not a sharing in the body of Christ? 17 Because there is one bread, we who are many are one  * body, since all of us share the one bread.

The Lord’s Prayer

9 "Therefore, you should pray like this:*

Our Father in heaven,

your name be honored as holy.*

10 Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

on earth as it is in heaven.*

11 Give us today our daily bread.*

9 A generous person  * will be blessed,  *

for he shares his food with the poor.  *

37 "You give them something to eat," he responded.

They said to him, "Should we go and buy two hundred denarii  * worth of bread and give them something to eat? "

38 He asked them, "How many loaves do you have? Go and see."

When they found out they said, "Five, and two fish." 39 Then he instructed them to have all the people sit down in groups on the green grass. 40 So they sat down in groups of hundreds and fifties. 41 He took the five loaves and the two fish, and looking up to heaven, he blessed and broke the loaves. He kept giving them to his disciples to set before the people. He also divided the two fish among them all. 42 Everyone ate and was satisfied.  *43 They picked up twelve baskets full of pieces of bread and fish.

25 I have been young and now I am old,

yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned

or his children begging for bread.  *

5 The disciples reached the other shore,  * and they had forgotten to take bread. 6 Then Jesus told them, "Watch out and beware of the leaven*of the Pharisees and Sadducees."*

7 They were discussing among themselves, "We didn’t bring any bread."

8 Aware of this, Jesus said, "You of little faith,*why are you discussing among yourselves that you do not have bread?9 Don’t you understand yet? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand and how many baskets you collected?10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand and how many large baskets you collected?*11 Why is it you don’t understand that when I told you, ‘Beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees,’ it wasn’t about bread? "*12 Then they understood that he had not told them to beware of the leaven in bread, but of the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees.  *

Invest in Life

1 Send your bread on the surface of the water,  *

for after many days you may find it.

2 Give a portion to seven or even to eight,  *

for you don’t know what disaster may happen on earth.
