1 Tocai a trombeta em Sião, e clamai em alta voz no meu santo monte; tremam todos os moradores da terra, porque o dia do Senhor vem, já está perto;2 Dia de trevas e de escuridão; dia de nuvens e densas trevas, como a alva espalhada sobre os montes; povo grande e poderoso, qual nunca houve desde o tempo antigo, nem depois dele haverá pelos anos adiante, de geração em geração.3 Diante dele um fogo consome, e atrás dele uma chama abrasa; a terra diante dele é como o jardim do Éden, mas atrás dele um desolado deserto; sim, nada lhe escapará.4 A sua aparência é como a de cavalos; e como cavaleiros assim correm.5 Como o estrondo de carros, irão saltando sobre os cumes dos montes, como o ruído da chama de fogo que consome a pragana, como um povo poderoso, posto em ordem para o combate.6 Diante dele temerão os povos; todos os rostos se tornarão enegrecidos.7 Como valentes correrão, como homens de guerra subirão os muros; e marchará cada um no seu caminho e não se desviará da sua fileira.8 Ninguém apertará a seu irmão; marchará cada um pelo seu caminho; sobre a mesma espada se arremessarão, e não serão feridos.9 Irão pela cidade, correrão pelos muros, subirão às casas, entrarão pelas janelas como o ladrão.10 Diante dele tremerá a terra, abalar-se-ão os céus; o sol e a lua se enegrecerão, e as estrelas retirarão o seu resplendor.11 E o Senhor levantará a sua voz diante do seu exército; porque muitíssimo grande é o seu arraial; porque poderoso é, executando a sua palavra; porque o dia do Senhor é grande e mui temível, e quem o poderá suportar?12 Ainda assim, agora mesmo diz o Senhor: Convertei-vos a mim de todo o vosso coração; e isso com jejuns, e com choro, e com pranto.13 E rasgai o vosso coração, e não as vossas vestes, e convertei-vos ao Senhor vosso Deus; porque ele é misericordioso, e compassivo, e tardio em irar-se, e grande em benignidade, e se arrepende do mal.14 Quem sabe se não se voltará e se arrependerá, e deixará após si uma bênção, em oferta de alimentos e libação para o Senhor vosso Deus?15 Tocai a trombeta em Sião, santificai um jejum, convocai uma assembleia solene.16 Congregai o povo, santificai a congregação, ajuntai os anciãos, congregai as crianças, e os que mamam; saia o noivo da sua recâmara, e a noiva do seu aposento.17 Chorem os sacerdotes, ministros do Senhor, entre o alpendre e o altar, e digam: Poupa a teu povo, ó Senhor, e não entregues a tua herança ao opróbrio, para que os gentios o dominem; por que diriam entre os povos: Onde está o seu Deus?18 Então o Senhor se mostrou zeloso da sua terra, e compadeceu-se do seu povo.19 E o Senhor, respondendo, disse ao seu povo: Eis que vos envio o trigo, e o mosto, e o azeite, e deles sereis fartos, e vos não entregarei mais ao opróbrio entre os gentios.20 Mas removerei para longe de vós o exército do norte, e lançá-lo-ei em uma terra seca e deserta; a sua frente para o mar oriental, e a sua retaguarda para o mar ocidental; e subirá o seu mau cheiro, e subirá a sua podridão; porque fez grandes coisas.21 Não temas, ó terra: regozija-te e alegra-te, porque o Senhor fez grandes coisas.22 Não temais, animais do campo, porque os pastos do deserto reverdecerão, porque o arvoredo dará o seu fruto, a vide e a figueira darão a sua força.23 E vós, filhos de Sião, regozijai-vos e alegrai-vos no Senhor vosso Deus, porque ele vos dará em justa medida a chuva temporã; fará descer a chuva no primeiro mês, a temporã e a serôdia.24 E as eiras se encherão de trigo, e os lagares transbordarão de mosto e de azeite.25 E restituir-vos-ei os anos que comeu o gafanhoto, a locusta, e o pulgão e a lagarta, o meu grande exército que enviei contra vós.26 E comereis abundantemente e vos fartareis, e louvareis o nome do Senhor vosso Deus, que procedeu para convosco maravilhosamente; e o meu povo nunca mais será envergonhado.27 E vós sabereis que eu estou no meio de Israel, e que eu sou o Senhor vosso Deus, e que não há outro; e o meu povo nunca mais será envergonhado.28 E há de ser que, depois derramarei o meu Espírito sobre toda a carne, e vossos filhos e vossas filhas profetizarão, os vossos velhos terão sonhos, os vossos jovens terão visões.29 E também sobre os servos e sobre as servas naqueles dias derramarei o meu Espírito.30 E mostrarei prodígios no céu, e na terra, sangue e fogo, e colunas de fumaça.31 O sol se converterá em trevas, e a lua em sangue, antes que venha o grande e terrível dia do Senhor.32 E há de ser que todo aquele que invocar o nome do Senhor será salvo; porque no monte Sião e em Jerusalém haverá livramento, assim como disse o Senhor, e entre os sobreviventes, aqueles que o Senhor chamar.

1 Blow ye the cornet in Zion, and sound an alarm on my holy mount; let all the inhabitants of the land tremble; for the day of the Lord cometh, for it is nigh;2 It is a day of darkness and of gloom, a day of clouds and of tempestuous obscurity, like the morning–dawn spread out upon the mountains: a people numerous and strong, the like of which hath never been and after it there will be none any more, even to the years of all coming generations.3 Before it devoureth a fire; and behind it singeth a flame: like the garden of ‘Eden was the land before it came, and after it is a desolate wilderness; yea, and nothing escapeth from it.4 Like the appearance of horses is its appearance; and like horsemen, so do they run.5 Like the noise of chariots on the tops of mountains do they leap; they are like the noise of a flame of fire consuming the stubble, as a strong people arrayed for a battle.6 At its presence the people are much pained: all the faces are covered with blackness.7 Like mighty men do they run; like men of war they climb up a wall; and they march every one on his own ways, and they turn not aside on their paths.8 And they do not press one another; every one on his beaten track do they go forward: and they pass through between war–like weapons, and change not their purpose.9 Into the city they hasten forward; on the wall they run; into the houses they climb up; through the windows they make their entrance like a thief.10 Before them trembleth the earth; the heavens quake; the sun and the moon are obscured, and the stars withdraw their brightness.11 And the Lord uttereth his voice before his army; for very numerous is his camp; for strong is he that executeth his word; for great is the day of the Lord and very terrible; and who is able to endure it?12 But even now also, saith the Lord, return ye fully to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and return unto the Lord your God; for gracious and merciful is he, long suffering, and of great kindness, and he bethinketh himself of the evil.14 He that is conscious of guilt, let him return and repent: when the plague may leave behind it a blessing; even a meat–offering and a drink–offering unto the Lord your God.15 Blow the cornet in Zion, sanctify a fast, proclaim a solemn assembly;16 Gather the people, sanctify the congregation, assemble the elders, gather the children, and those that suck the breasts; let the bridegroom go forth out of his chamber, and the bride out of her closet.17 Between the porch and the altar let the priests weep, the ministers of the Lord, and let them say, Spare, O Lord, thy people, and give not up thy heritage to reproach, for nations to make a by–word of them: wherefore should they say among the people, Where is their God?18 And the Lord was zealous for his land, and he had pity for his people.19 And the Lord answered and said unto his people, "Behold, I will send you the corn, and the young wine, and the oil, and ye shall be satisfied therewith; and I will not give you up any more to be a reproach among the nations:20 And the host of the north will I remove far away from you, and I will drive it off into a land barren and desolate, with its advance toward the eastern sea, and its rereward toward the western sea; and its stench shall ascend, and its ill savor shall come up, because it hath done great things."21 Fear not, O land; be glad and rejoice; for the Lord hath done great things.22 Be not afraid, ye beasts of the field; for the pastures of the wilderness have become green; for the tree beareth its fruit, the fig–tree and the vine yield their strength.23 And ye children of Zion, be glad, and rejoice in the Lord your God; for he hath given you the first rain in beneficence, and he hath caused to come down for you the rain, the first rain, and the latter rain in the first month.24 And the threshing–floors are full of corn, and the vats overflow with young wine and oil.25 And I will repay to you the years in which the locust hath eaten all, with the cankerworm, and the cricket, and the caterpillar, my great army, which I had sent against you.26 And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, who hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall not be made ashamed unto eternity.27 And ye shall know that I am in the midst of Israel, and that I am the Lord your God, and none else; and my people shall not be made ashamed unto eternity.28 (3:1) And it shall come to pass after this, that I will pour out my spirit over all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy: your old men shall dream dreams: your young men shall see visions:29 (3:2) And also over the men–servants and over the maid–servants in those days will I pour out my spirit.30 (3:3) And I will display wonderful tokens in the heavens and on the earth, blood, and fire, and pillars of smoke.31 (3:4) The sun shall be changed into darkness, and the moon into blood, before the coming of the day of the Lord, the great and the terrible.32 (3:5) And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall escape; for on mount Zion and in Jerusalem there shall be deliverance, as the Lord hath said, and among the remnant whom the Lord calleth.
