1 No quarto ano do rei Dario, veio a palavra do Senhor a Zacarias, no dia quarto do nono mês, que é quisleu. 2 Quando de Betel foram enviados Sarezer, e Regém-Meleque, e seus homens, para suplicarem o favor do Senhor, 3 perguntaram aos sacerdotes, que estavam na Casa do Senhor dos Exércitos, e aos profetas: Continuaremos nós a chorar, com jejum, no quinto mês, como temos feito por tantos anos? 4 Então, a palavra do Senhor dos Exércitos me veio a mim, dizendo: 5 Fala a todo o povo desta terra e aos sacerdotes: Quando jejuastes e pranteastes, no quinto e no sétimo mês, durante estes setenta anos, acaso, foi para mim que jejuastes, com efeito, para mim? 6 Quando comeis e bebeis, não é para vós mesmos que comeis e bebeis? 7 Não ouvistes vós as palavras que o Senhor pregou pelo ministério dos profetas que nos precederam, quando Jerusalém estava habitada e em paz com as suas cidades ao redor dela, e o Sul e a campina eram habitados?

8 A palavra do Senhor veio a Zacarias, dizendo: 9 Assim falara o Senhor dos Exércitos: Executai juízo verdadeiro, mostrai bondade e misericórdia, cada um a seu irmão; 10 não oprimais a viúva, nem o órfão, nem o estrangeiro, nem o pobre, nem intente cada um, em seu coração, o mal contra o seu próximo. 11 Eles, porém, não quiseram atender e, rebeldes, me deram as costas e ensurdeceram os ouvidos, para que não ouvissem. 12 Sim, fizeram o seu coração duro como diamante, para que não ouvissem a lei, nem as palavras que o Senhor dos Exércitos enviara pelo seu Espírito, mediante os profetas que nos precederam; daí veio a grande ira do Senhor dos Exércitos. 13 Visto que eu clamei, e eles não me ouviram, eles também clamaram, e eu não os ouvi, diz o Senhor dos Exércitos. 14 Espalhei-os com um turbilhão por entre todas as nações que eles não conheceram; e a terra foi assolada atrás deles, de sorte que ninguém passava por ela, nem voltava; porque da terra desejável fizeram uma desolação.

1 And it came to pass in the fourth year of king Darius, that the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah in the fourth day of the ninth month, even in Chislev. 2 Now they of Beth-el had sent Sharezer and Regem-melech, and their men, to entreat the favor of Jehovah, 3 and to speak unto the priests of the house of Jehovah of hosts, and to the prophets, saying, Should I weep in the fifth month, separating myself, as I have done these so many years? 4 Then came the word of Jehovah of hosts unto me, saying, 5 Speak unto all the people of the land, and to the priests, saying, When ye fasted and mourned in the fifth and in the seventh month, even these seventy years, did ye at all fast unto me, even to me? 6 And when ye eat, and when ye drink, do not ye eat for yourselves, and drink for yourselves? 7 Should ye not hear the words which Jehovah cried by the former prophets, when Jerusalem was inhabited and in prosperity, and the cities thereof round about her, and the South and the lowland were inhabited?

8 And the word of Jehovah came unto Zechariah, saying, 9 Thus hath Jehovah of hosts spoken, saying, Execute true judgment, and show kindness and compassion every man to his brother; 10 and oppress not the widow, nor the fatherless, the sojourner, nor the poor; and let none of you devise evil against his brother in your heart. 11 But they refused to hearken, and pulled away the shoulder, and stopped their ears, that they might not hear. 12 Yea, they made their hearts as an adamant stone, lest they should hear the law, and the words which Jehovah of hosts had sent by his Spirit by the former prophets: therefore there came great wrath from Jehovah of hosts. 13 And it is come to pass that, as he cried, and they would not hear, so they shall cry, and I will not hear, said Jehovah of hosts; 14 but I will scatter them with a whirlwind among all the nations which they have not known. Thus the land was desolate after them, so that no man passed through nor returned: for they laid the pleasant land desolate.

1 In the fourth year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came to Zechariah on the fourth day of the ninth month, the month of Kislev.

2 The people of Bethel had sent Sharezer and Regem-Melek, together with their men, to entreat the LORD

3 by asking the priests of the house of the LORD Almighty and the prophets, "Should I mourn and fast in the fifth month, as I have done for so many years?"

4 Then the word of the LORD Almighty came to me:

5 "Ask all the people of the land and the priests, 'When you fasted and mourned in the fifth and seventh months for the past seventy years, was it really for me that you fasted?

6 And when you were eating and drinking, were you not just feasting for yourselves?

7 Are these not the words the LORD proclaimed through the earlier prophets when Jerusalem and its surrounding towns were at rest and prosperous, and the Negev and the western foothills were settled?'"

8 And the word of the LORD came again to Zechariah:

9 "This is what the LORD Almighty said: 'Administer true justice; show mercy and compassion to one another.

10 Do not oppress the widow or the fatherless, the foreigner or the poor. Do not plot evil against each other.'

11 "But they refused to pay attention; stubbornly they turned their backs and covered their ears.

12 They made their hearts as hard as flint and would not listen to the law or to the words that the LORD Almighty had sent by his Spirit through the earlier prophets. So the LORD Almighty was very angry.

13 "'When I called, they did not listen; so when they called, I would not listen,' says the LORD Almighty.

14 'I scattered them with a whirlwind among all the nations, where they were strangers. The land they left behind them was so desolate that no one traveled through it. This is how they made the pleasant land desolate.'"
