2 Timothy 1

1 Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, according to the promise of the life which is in Christ Jesus, 2 to Timothy, my beloved child: Grace, mercy, peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

3 I thank God, whom I serve from my forefathers in a pure conscience, how unceasing is my remembrance of thee in my supplications, night and day 4 longing to see thee, remembering thy tears, that I may be filled with joy; 5 having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in thee; which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in thee also. 6 For which cause I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee through the laying on of my hands. 7 For God gave us not a spirit of fearfulness; but of power and love and discipline. 8 Be not ashamed therefore of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but suffer hardship with the gospel according to the power of God; 9 who saved us, and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before times eternal, 10 but hath now been manifested by the appearing of our Saviour Christ Jesus, who abolished death, and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel, 11 whereunto I was appointed a preacher, and an apostle, and a teacher. 12 For which cause I suffer also these things: yet I am not ashamed; for I know him whom I have believed, and I am persuaded that he is able to guard that which I have committed unto him against that day. 13 Hold the pattern of sound words which thou hast heard from me, in faith and love which is in Christ Jesus. 14 That good thing which was committed unto thee guard through the Holy Spirit which dwelleth in us.

15 This thou knowest, that all that are in Asia turned away from me; of whom are Phygelus and Hermogenes. 16 The Lord grant mercy unto the house of Onesiphorus: for he oft refreshed me, and was not ashamed of my chain; 17 but, when he was in Rome, he sought me diligently, and found me 18 (the Lord grant unto him to find mercy of the Lord in that day); and in how many things he ministered at Ephesus, thou knowest very well.

1 Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, pour annoncer la promesse de la vie qui est en Jésus-Christ;

2 A Timothée, mon cher fils. Grâce, miséricorde et paix de la part de Dieu le Père, et de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur.

3 Je rends grâces à Dieu que je sers avec une conscience pure comme mes ancêtres ont fait, et je ne cesse de faire mention de toi dans mes prières, nuit et jour;

4 Me souvenant de tes larmes, et désirant fort de te voir, afin d’être rempli de joie;

5 Rappelant aussi le souvenir de la foi sincère qui est en toi, et qui a été auparavant en Loïs ton aïeule, et en Eunice ta mère, et je suis persuadé qu’elle est aussi en toi.

6 C’est pourquoi je t’avertis de rallumer le don de Dieu qui est en toi, et vue tu as reçu par l’imposition de mes mains.

7 Car Dieu ne nous a point donné un esprit de timidité, mais il nous a donné un esprit de force, de charité et de prudence.

8 N’aie donc oint honte du témoignage de notre Seigneur, ni de moi qui suis prisonnier à cause de lui; mais souffre avec moi pour l’évangile, par la force que Dieu te donne,

9 Lequel nous a sauvés, et nous a appelés par une vocation sainte, non selon nos œuvres, mais selon qu’il avait résolu et selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Jésus-Christ avant tous les siècles;

10 Et qui a été maintenant manifestée par l’avénement de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ, qui a détruit la mort, et mis en évidence la vie et l’immortalité par l’évangile;

11 Pour lequel j’ai été établi prédicateur, et apôtre et docteur des Gentils.

12 C’est ce qui m’a attiré tous les maux que j’endure; mais je n’en ai point de honte, car je sais à qui j’ai cru, et je suis persuadé qu’il a la puissance de garder mon dépôt jusqu’à ce jour-là.

13 Retiens le modèle des saines instructions que tu as ouïes de moi, en suivant la foi et la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ.

14 Garde le bon dépôt, par le Saint-Esprit qui habite en nous.

15 Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont d’Asie m’ont abandonné, du nombre desquels sont Phygelle et Hermogène.

16 Le Seigneur veuille exercer sa miséricorde envers la famille d’Onésiphore; car il m’a souvent consolé, et il n’a point eu honte de mes chaînes.

17 Au contraire, quand il a été à Rome, il m’a cherché fort soigneusement, et il m’a trouvé.

18 Le Seigneur lui fasse trouver miséricorde devant lui en ce jour-là; et tu sais mieux que personne, combien il m’a assisté à Ephèse.
