Romans 15

1 Now we that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves. 2 Let each one of us please his neighbor for that which is good, unto edifying. 3 For Christ also pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell upon me. 4 For whatsoever things were written aforetime were written for our learning, that through patience and through comfort of the scriptures we might have hope. 5 Now the God of patience and of comfort grant you to be of the same mind one with another according to Christ Jesus: 6 that with one accord ye may with one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 7 Wherefore receive ye one another, even as Christ also received you, to the glory of God. 8 For I say that Christ hath been made a minister of the circumcision for the truth of God, that he might confirm the promises given unto the fathers, 9 and that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy; as it is written,

Therefore will I give praise unto thee among the Gentiles,

And sing unto thy name.

10 And again he saith,

Rejoice, ye Gentiles, with his people.

11 And again,

Praise the Lord, all ye Gentiles;

And let all the peoples praise him.

12 And again, Isaiah saith,

There shall be the root of Jesse,

And he that ariseth to rule over the Gentiles;

On him shall the Gentiles hope.

13 Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, in the power of the Holy Spirit.

14 And I myself also am persuaded of you, my brethren, that ye yourselves are full of goodness, filled with all knowledge, able also to admonish one another. 15 But I write the more boldly unto you in some measure, as putting you again in remembrance, because of the grace that was given me of God, 16 that I should be a minister of Christ Jesus unto the Gentiles, ministering the gospel of God, that the offering up of the Gentiles might be made acceptable, being sanctified by the Holy Spirit. 17 I have therefore my glorying in Christ Jesus in things pertaining to God. 18 For I will not dare to speak of any things save those which Christ wrought through me, for the obedience of the Gentiles, by word and deed, 19 in the power of signs and wonders, in the power of the Holy Spirit; so that from Jerusalem, and round about even unto Illyricum, I have fully preached the gospel of Christ; 20 yea, making it my aim so to preach the gospel, not where Christ was already named, that I might not build upon another man’s foundation; 21 but, as it is written,

They shall see, to whom no tidings of him came,

And they who have not heard shall understand.

22 Wherefore also I was hindered these many times from coming to you: 23 but now, having no more any place in these regions, and having these many years a longing to come unto you, 24 whensoever I go unto Spain (for I hope to see you in my journey, and to be brought on my way thitherward by you, if first in some measure I shall have been satisfied with your company)— 25 but now, I say, I go unto Jerusalem, ministering unto the saints. 26 For it hath been the good pleasure of Macedonia and Achaia to make a certain contribution for the poor among the saints that are at Jerusalem. 27 Yea, it hath been their good pleasure; and their debtors they are. For if the Gentiles have been made partakers of their spiritual things, they owe it to them also to minister unto them in carnal things. 28 When therefore I have accomplished this, and have sealed to them this fruit, I will go on by you unto Spain. 29 And I know that, when I come unto you, I shall come in the fulness of the blessing of Christ.

30 Now I beseech you, brethren, by our Lord Jesus Christ, and by the love of the Spirit, that ye strive together with me in your prayers to God for me; 31 that I may be delivered from them that are disobedient in Judæa, and that my ministration which I have for Jerusalem may be acceptable to the saints; 32 that I may come unto you in joy through the will of God, and together with you find rest. 33 Now the God of peace be with you all. Amen.

1 Nous devons donc, nous qui sommes plus forts, supporter les infirmités des faibles, et non pas chercher notre propre satisfaction.

2 Que chacun de nous donc ait de la condescendance pour son prochain, et cela pour le bien et pour l’édification;

3 Car aussi, Christ n’a point cherché sa propre satisfaction; mais, selon ce qui est écrit: Les outrages de ceux qui t’ont outragé, sont tombés sur moi.

4 Or, toutes les choses qui ont été écrites autrefois, ont été écrites pour notre instruction, afin que, par la patience et par la consolation que les Ecritures nous donnent, nous retenions notre espérance.

5 Que le Dieu de patience et de consolation vous fasse donc la grâce d’avoir, les uns et les autres, un même sentiment selon Jésus-Christ:

6 Afin que, d’un même cœur et d’une même bouche, vous glorifiiez le Dieu qui est le Père de notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ.

7 C’est pourquoi recevez-vous les uns les autres avec bonté, comme Christ nous a reçus pour la gloire de Dieu.

8 Je dis donc que Jésus-Christ a été ministre parmi les Juifs, pour montrer la fidélité de Dieu, et pour accomplir les promesses faites aux pères;

9 Et afin que les Gentils glorifient Dieu à cause de sa miséricorde, selon qu’il est écrit: C’est pour cela que je te louerai parmi les Gentils, et que je chanterai des cantiques à ton nom.

10 Il est dit encore: Gentils, réjouissez-vous avec son peuple.

11 Et encore: Nations, louez toutes le Seigneur, et vous, tous les peuples, célébrez-le.

12 Esaïe dit aussi: Il sortira de la racine de Jessé un rejeton pour gouverner les Gentils; les Gentils espéreront en lui.

13 Que le Dieu d’espérance vous remplisse donc de toute sorte de joie et de paix dans la foi, afin que vous abondiez en espérance, par la puissance du Saint-Esprit.

14 Or, mes frères, j’ai cette persuasion de vous, que vous êtes pleins de charité, remplis de toute sorte de connaissance, et que vous êtes en état de vous exhorter les uns les autres.

15 Cependant, mes frères, je n’ai pas laissé de vous écrire plus librement, pour vous remettre ces choses en mémoire, selon la grâce qui m’a été donnée de Dieu,

16 Pour être ministre de Jésus-Christ parmi les Gentils, exerçant les saintes fonctions de l’évangile de Dieu, afin que l’oblation des Gentils lui soit agréable, étant sanctifiée par le Saint-Esprit.

17 J’ai donc sujet de me glorifier en Jésus-Christ, dans les choses qui regardent Dieu.

18 Car je n’oserais dire qu’il y ait quelque chose que Jésus-Christ n’ait pas fait par moi, pour amener les Gentils à son obéissance, par la parole et par les œuvres;

19 Par la vertu des miracles et des prodiges; par la puissance de l’Esprit de Dieu; de sorte que j’ai répandu l’évangile de Christ depuis Jérusalem et les lieux voisins jusqu’à l’Illyrie.

20 Et cela de manière que j’ai pris à tâche d’annoncer l’évangile où l’on n’avait point encore parlé de Jésus-Christ, afin de ne pas bâtir sur le fondement qu’un autre aurait posé;

21 Selon qu’il est écrit: Ceux à qui il n’avait point été annoncé, le verront, et ceux qui n’en avaient point ouï parler, l’entendront.

22 C’est aussi ce qui m’a souvent empêché d’aller vous voir.

23 Mais, comme à présent je n’ai plus rien qui m’arrête dans ce pays-ci, et que depuis plusieurs années j’ai un grand désir d’aller vers vous,

24 J’irai chez vous quand je ferai le voyage d’Espagne; car j’espère que je vous verrai en passant, et que vous m’y conduirez, après que j’aurai contenté en partie le désir que j’ai d’être avec vous.

25 Mais présentement je vais à Jérusalem, pour y porter des aumônes aux saints.

26 Car ceux de Macédoine et d’Achaïe ont bien voulu faire une contribution pour les pauvres d’entre les saints qui sont à Jérusalem.

27 Ils l’ont ainsi trouvé bon; et aussi leur étaient-ils redevables; car si les Gentils ont eu part aux biens spirituels des Juifs, ils doivent aussi leur faire part de leurs biens temporels.

28 Après donc que j’aurai fait cela, et que je leur aurai remis fidèlement ce fruit de la charité des Gentils, je passerai par vos quartiers, en allant en Espagne.

29 Et je suis persuadé que, lorsque je viendrai chez vous, j’y viendrai avec une grande abondance des bénédictions de l’évangile de Christ.

30 Je vous conjure donc, mes frères, par notre Seigneur Jésus-Christ, et par la charité de l’Esprit, de combattre avec moi dans les prières que vous ferez à Dieu pour moi.

31 Afin que je sois délivré des incrédules qui sont en Judée, et que l’assistance que je porte à Jérusalem soit agréable aux saints;

32 En sorte que j’arrive chez vous avec joie, si c’est la volonté de Dieu, et que je me console avec vous.

33 Que le Dieu de paix soit avec vous tous. Amen.
