1 Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help, and rely on horses, and trust in chariots because they are many, and in horsemen because they are very strong, but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek Jehovah! 2 Yet he also is wise, and will bring evil, and will not call back his words, but will arise against the house of the evil-doers, and against the help of them that work iniquity. 3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God; and their horses flesh, and not spirit: and when Jehovah shall stretch out his hand, both he that helpeth shall stumble, and he that is helped shall fall, and they all shall be consumed together.

4 For thus saith Jehovah unto me, As the lion and the young lion growling over his prey, if a multitude of shepherds be called forth against him, will not be dismayed at their voice, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so will Jehovah of hosts come down to fight upon mount Zion, and upon the hill thereof. 5 As birds hovering, so will Jehovah of hosts protect Jerusalem; he will protect and deliver it, he will pass over and preserve it. 6 Turn ye unto him from whom ye have deeply revolted, O children of Israel. 7 For in that day they shall cast away every man his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you for a sin. 8 And the Assyrian shall fall by the sword, not of man; and the sword, not of men, shall devour him; and he shall flee from the sword, and his young men shall become subject to taskwork. 9 And his rock shall pass away by reason of terror, and his princes shall be dismayed at the ensign, saith Jehovah, whose fire is in Zion, and his furnace in Jerusalem.

Își ia vorbele înapoi, ci Se ridică împotriva casei celor răi și împotriva ajutorului celor ce săvârșesc nelegiuirea. 3 Căci egipteanul este om*Ps. 146:3,5., nu Dumnezeu, și caii lui sunt carne, nu duh. Doar mâna să-Și întindă Domnul, și ocrotitorul se va clătina, iar cel ocrotit va cădea și vor pieri cu toții. 4 Căci așa mi-a vorbit Domnul: „Cum*Osea 11:10.Amos 3:8. mugesc leul și puiul de leu asupra prăzii, în ciuda tuturor păstorilor strânși împotriva lor, și nu se înspăimântă de glasul lor, nici nu se sperie de numărul lor, așa*Cap. 42:13. Se va coborî și Domnul oștirilor să lupte pe muntele Sionului și pe dealul lui. 5 Cum*Deut. 32:11.Ps. 91:4. își întind păsările aripile peste puii lor, așa va ocroti Domnul oștirilor Ierusalimul, îl va ocroti*Ps. 37:40. și-l va izbăvi, îl va cruța și-l va mântui." 6 Întoarceți-vă la Acela de la care v-ați abătut*Osea 9:9. mult, copii ai lui Israel! 7 Căci, în ziua aceea, fiecare își va lepăda*Cap. 2:20;30:22. idolii de argint și de aur pe care vi i-ați făcut cu mâinile voastre nelegiuite*1 Împ. 12:30.. 8 „Și asirianul va cădea*2 Împ. 19:35,36. Cap. 37:36. ucis de o sabie, dar nu a unui om: îl va nimici o sabie, dar nu este a unui om; va fugi de sabie și tinerii lui războinici vor fi robiți. 9 Stânca lui se va topi de groază*Cap. 37:37.*31:9 Sau: În groaza lui, va trece întăritura sa., și căpeteniile lui vor tremura înaintea steagului", zice Domnul, care Își are focul în Sion și cuptorul în Ierusalim.
