1 Woe to the rebellious children, saith Jehovah, that take counsel, but not of me; and that make a league, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin, 2 that set out to go down into Egypt, and have not asked at my mouth; to strengthen themselves in the strength of Pharaoh, and to take refuge in the shadow of Egypt! 3 Therefore shall the strength of Pharaoh be your shame, and the refuge in the shadow of Egypt your confusion. 4 For their princes are at Zoan, and their ambassadors are come to Hanes. 5 They shall all be ashamed because of a people that cannot profit them, that are not a help nor profit, but a shame, and also a reproach.

6 The burden of the beasts of the South.

Through the land of trouble and anguish, from whence come the lioness and the lion, the viper and fiery flying serpent, they carry their riches upon the shoulders of young asses, and their treasures upon the humps of camels, to a people that shall not profit them. 7 For Egypt helpeth in vain, and to no purpose: therefore have I called her Rahab that sitteth still.

8 Now go, write it before them on a tablet, and inscribe it in a book, that it may be for the time to come for ever and ever. 9 For it is a rebellious people, lying children, children that will not hear the law of Jehovah; 10 that say to the seers, See not; and to the prophets, Prophesy not unto us right things, speak unto us smooth things, prophesy deceits, 11 get you out of the way, turn aside out of the path, cause the Holy One of Israel to cease from before us. 12 Wherefore thus saith the Holy One of Israel, Because ye despise this word, and trust in oppression and perverseness, and rely thereon; 13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you as a breach ready to fall, swelling out in a high wall, whose breaking cometh suddenly in an instant. 14 And he shall break it as a potter’s vessel is broken, breaking it in pieces without sparing; so that there shall not be found among the pieces thereof a sherd wherewith to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.

15 For thus said the Lord Jehovah, the Holy One of Israel, In returning and rest shall ye be saved; in quietness and in confidence shall be your strength. And ye would not: 16 but ye said, No, for we will flee upon horses; therefore shall ye flee: and, We will ride upon the swift; therefore shall they that pursue you be swift. 17 One thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five shall ye flee: till ye be left as a beacon upon the top of a mountain, and as an ensign on a hill.

18 And therefore will Jehovah wait, that he may be gracious unto you; and therefore will he be exalted, that he may have mercy upon you: for Jehovah is a God of justice; blessed are all they that wait for him. 19 For the people shall dwell in Zion at Jerusalem; thou shalt weep no more; he will surely be gracious unto thee at the voice of thy cry; when he shall hear, he will answer thee. 20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet shall not thy teachers be hidden anymore, but thine eyes shall see thy teachers; 21 and thine ears shall hear a word behind thee, saying, This is the way, walk ye in it; when ye turn to the right hand, and when ye turn to the left. 22 And ye shall defile the overlaying of thy graven images of silver, and the plating of thy molten images of gold: thou shalt cast them away as an unclean thing; thou shalt say unto it, Get thee hence.

23 And he will give the rain for thy seed, wherewith thou shalt sow the ground; and bread of the increase of the ground, and it shall be fat and plenteous. In that day shall thy cattle feed in large pastures; 24 the oxen likewise and the young asses that till the ground shall eat savory provender, which hath been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork. 25 And there shall be upon every lofty mountain, and upon every high hill, brooks and streams of waters, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. 26 Moreover the light of the moon shall be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun shall be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day that Jehovah bindeth up the hurt of his people, and healeth the stroke of their wound.

27 Behold, the name of Jehovah cometh from far, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke: his lips are full of indignation, and his tongue is as a devouring fire; 28 and his breath is as an overflowing stream, that reacheth even unto the neck, to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction: and a bridle that causeth to err shall be in the jaws of the peoples. 29 Ye shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goeth with a pipe to come unto the mountain of Jehovah, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And Jehovah will cause his glorious voice to be heard, and will show the lighting down of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and the flame of a devouring fire, with a blast, and tempest, and hailstones. 31 For through the voice of Jehovah shall the Assyrian be dismayed; with his rod will he smite him. 32 And every stroke of the appointed staff, which Jehovah shall lay upon him, shall be with the sound of tabrets and harps; and in battles with the brandishing of his arm will he fight with them. 33 For a Topheth is prepared of old; yea, for the king it is made ready; he hath made it deep and large; the pile thereof is fire and much wood; the breath of Jehovah, like a stream of brimstone, doth kindle it.

1 „Vai", zice Domnul, „de copiii răzvrătiți, care*Cap. 29:15. iau hotărâri fără Mine, fac legăminte care nu vin din Duhul Meu și*Deut. 29:19. îngrămădesc astfel păcat peste păcat! 2 Ei*Cap. 31:1. se coboară în Egipt, fără*Num. 27:21.Ios. 9:14.1 Împ. 22:7.Ier. 21:2;42:2,20. să Mă întrebe, ca să fugă sub ocrotirea lui Faraon și să caute un adăpost sub umbra egiptenilor! 3 Dar*Cap. 20:5.Ier. 37:5,7. ocrotirea lui Faraon vă va da de rușine și adăpostul sub umbra Egiptului vă va da de ocară. 4 Căci voievozii lui au și ajuns la Țoan*Cap. 19:11. și trimișii lui au și atins Hanesul. 5 Dar toți*Ier. 2:36. vor rămâne de rușine din pricina unui popor care nu le va fi de folos, nici nu-i va ajuta, nici nu le va folosi, ci va fi spre rușinea și ocara lor." 6 Prorocie asupra unor dobitoace*Cap. 57:9.Osea 8:9;12:1. de la miazăzi: Printr-un ținut strâmtorat și necăjit, de unde vin leoaica și leul, năpârca*Deut. 8:15. și șarpele zburător, își duc ei bogățiile în spinarea măgarilor și vistieriile pe cocoașa cămilelor către un popor care nu le va fi de folos. 7 Căci*Ier. 37:7. ajutorul Egiptului nu este decât deșertăciune și nimic, de aceea eu numesc lucrul acesta zarvă*Vers. 15. Cap. 7:4. fără nicio ispravă. 8 „Du-te acum", zice Domnul, „de scrie*Hab. 2:2. aceste lucruri înaintea lor pe o tăbliță și sapă-le într-o carte, ca să rămână până în ziua de apoi, ca mărturie pe vecie și în veci de veci. 9 Scrie că poporul acesta*Deut. 32:20. Cap. 1:4;30:1. este un popor răzvrătit, niște copii mincinoși, niște copii care nu vor să asculte Legea Domnului, 10 care*Ier. 11:21.Amos 2:12;7:13.Mica 2:6. zic văzătorilor: ‘Să nu vedeți!’ și prorocilor: ‘Să nu prorociți adevăruri, ci spuneți-ne*1 Împ. 22:13.Mica 2:11. lucruri măgulitoare, prorociți-ne lucruri închipuite! 11 Abateți-vă din drum, dați-vă în lături de pe cărare, lăsați-ne în pace cu Sfântul lui Israel!’" 12 De aceea așa vorbește Sfântul lui Israel: „Fiindcă lepădați cuvântul acesta și vă încredeți în silnicie și vicleșuguri și vă sprijiniți pe ele, 13 de aceea nelegiuirea aceasta va fi pentru voi ca*Ps. 62:3. spărtura unui zid înalt, care, spărgându-se, amenință să cadă și a cărui prăbușire vine*Cap. 29:5. deodată, într-o clipă: 14 îl sfărâmă cum se sfărâmă un vas de pământ, care se*Ps. 2:9.Ier. 19:11. sfărâmă fără nicio milă și din ale cărui sfărâmături nu mai rămâne niciun ciob măcar, cu care să iei foc din vatră sau să scoți apă din fântână." 15 Căci așa vorbește Domnul Dumnezeu, Sfântul lui Israel: „În liniște*Vers. 7. Cap. 7:4. și odihnă va fi mântuirea voastră, în seninătate și încredere va fi tăria voastră." Dar*Mat. 23:37. n-ați voit! 16 Ci ați zis: „Nu! Ci vom fugi pe cai!" – De aceea veți și fugi! – „Vom călări pe cai iuți!" – De aceea cei ce vă vor urmări vor fi și mai iuți! 17 O*Lev. 26:8.Deut. 28:25;32:30.Ios. 23:10. mie vor fugi la amenințarea unuia singur și, când vă vor amenința cinci, toți veți fugi, până veți rămâne ca un stâlp pe vârful unui munte și ca un steag pe creștetul unui deal. 18 Totuși Domnul așteaptă să Se milostivească de voi și Se va scula să vă dea îndurare, căci Domnul este un Dumnezeu drept. Ferice*Ps. 2:12;34:8.Prov. 16:20.Ier. 17:7. de toți cei ce nădăjduiesc în El! 19 Da, popor al Sionului, locuitor al*Cap. 65:9. Ierusalimului, nu vei mai plânge! El Se va îndura de tine când vei striga; cum va auzi, te va asculta. 20 Domnul vă va da pâine*1 Împ. 22:27.Ps. 127:2. în necaz și apă în strâmtorare. Învățătorii*Ps. 74:9.Amos 8:11. tăi nu se vor mai ascunde, ci ochii tăi vor vedea pe învățătorii tăi. 21 Urechile tale vor auzi după tine glasul care va zice: „Iată drumul, mergeți pe el!", când veți voi să vă mai abateți*Ios. 1:7. la dreapta sau la stânga. 22 Veți*2 Cron. 31:1. Cap. 2:20;31:7. socoti ca spurcate argintul care vă acoperă idolii și aurul cu care sunt poleite chipurile turnate. Ca pe o necurăție le vei arunca și le vei zice*Osea 14:8.: „Afară cu voi de aici!" 23 Atunci*Mat. 6:33.1 Tim. 4:8. El va da ploaie peste sămânța pe care o vei pune în pământ și pâinea pe care o va da pământul va fi gustoasă și hrănitoare; în același timp, turmele tale vor paște în pășuni întinse. 24 Boii și măgarii care ară pământul vor mânca un nutreț sărat, vânturat cu lopata și cu ciurul. 25 Pe*Cap. 2:14,15;44:3. orice munte înalt și pe orice deal înalt vor izvorî râuri, curgeri de apă, în ziua marelui măcel, când turnurile vor cădea. 26 Și lumina*Cap. 60:19,20. lunii va fi ca lumina soarelui, iar lumina soarelui va fi de șapte ori mai mare (ca lumina a șapte zile), când va lega Domnul vânătăile poporului Său și va tămădui rana loviturilor lui. 27 Iată, Numele Domnului vine din depărtare! Mânia Lui este aprinsă și un pârjol puternic; buzele Lui sunt pline de urgie și limba Lui este ca un foc mistuitor; 28 suflarea*Cap. 11:4.2 Tes. 2:8. Lui este ca un șuvoi ieșit din albie, care ajunge*Cap. 8:8. până la gât, ca să ciuruiască neamurile cu ciurul nimicirii și să pună o zăbală*Cap. 37:29. înșelătoare în fălcile popoarelor. 29 Voi însă veți cânta ca în noaptea când se prăznuiește*Ps. 42:4. sărbătoarea, veți fi cu inima veselă ca cel ce merge în sunetul flautului, ca să se ducă la muntele*Cap. 2:3. Domnului, spre Stânca lui Israel. 30 Și*Cap. 29:6. Domnul va face să răsune glasul Lui măreț, Își va arăta brațul gata să lovească, în mânia Lui aprinsă, în mijlocul flăcării unui foc mistuitor, în mijlocul înecului, al furtunii și al pietrelor*Cap. 28:2;32:19. de grindină. 31 Atunci, asirianul va tremura de*Cap. 37:36. glasul Domnului, care*Cap. 10:5,24. îl va lovi cu nuiaua Sa. 32 La fiecare lovitură de nuia hotărâtă pe care i-o va da Domnul, se vor auzi timpanele și harpele. Domnul va lupta împotriva lui cu mâna*Cap. 11:15;19:16. ridicată. 33 Căci de multă vreme este pregătit un rug*Ier. 7:31;19:6., gătit și pentru împărat: adânc și lat este făcut, cu foc și lemne din belșug. Suflarea Domnului îl aprinde ca un șuvoi de pucioasă.
