1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2 Hear my words, ye wise men;

And give ear unto me, ye that have knowledge.

3 For the ear trieth words,

As the palate tasteth food.

4 Let us choose for us that which is right:

Let us know among ourselves what is good.

5 For Job hath said, I am righteous,

And God hath taken away my right:

6 Notwithstanding my right I am accounted a liar;

My wound is incurable, though I am without transgression.

7 What man is like Job,

Who drinketh up scoffing like water,

8 Who goeth in company with the workers of iniquity,

And walketh with wicked men?

9 For he hath said, It profiteth a man nothing

That he should delight himself with God.

10 Therefore hearken unto me, ye men of understanding:

Far be it from God, that he should do wickedness,

And from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity.

11 For the work of a man will he render unto him,

And cause every man to find according to his ways.

12 Yea, of a surety, God will not do wickedly,

Neither will the Almighty pervert justice.

13 Who gave him a charge over the earth?

Or who hath disposed the whole world?

14 If he set his heart upon himself,

If he gather unto himself his spirit and his breath;

15 All flesh shall perish together,

And man shall turn again unto dust.

16 If now thou hast understanding, hear this:

Hearken to the voice of my words.

17 Shall even one that hateth justice govern?

And wilt thou condemn him that is righteous and mighty?—

18 Him that saith to a king, Thou art vile,

Or to nobles, Ye are wicked;

19 That respecteth not the persons of princes,

Nor regardeth the rich more than the poor;

For they all are the work of his hands.

20 In a moment they die, even at midnight;

The people are shaken and pass away,

And the mighty are taken away without hand.

21 For his eyes are upon the ways of a man,

And he seeth all his goings.

22 There is no darkness, nor thick gloom,

Where the workers of iniquity may hide themselves.

23 For he needeth not further to consider a man,

That he should go before God in judgment.

24 He breaketh in pieces mighty men in ways past finding out,

And setteth others in their stead.

25 Therefore he taketh knowledge of their works;

And he overturneth them in the night, so that they are destroyed.

26 He striketh them as wicked men

In the open sight of others;

27 Because they turned aside from following him,

And would not have regard in any of his ways:

28 So that they caused the cry of the poor to come unto him,

And he heard the cry of the afflicted.

29 When he giveth quietness, who then can condemn?

And when he hideth his face, who then can behold him?

Alike whether it be done unto a nation, or unto a man:

30 That the godless man reign not,

That there be none to ensnare the people.

31 For hath any said unto God,

I have borne chastisement, I will not offend any more:

32 That which I see not teach thou me:

If I have done iniquity, I will do it no more?

33 Shall his recompense be as thou wilt, that thou refusest it?

For thou must choose, and not I:

Therefore speak what thou knowest.

34 Men of understanding will say unto me,

Yea, every wise man that heareth me:

35 Job speaketh without knowledge,

And his words are without wisdom.

36 Would that Job were tried unto the end,

Because of his answering like wicked men.

37 For he addeth rebellion unto his sin;

He clappeth his hands among us,

And multiplieth his words against God.

2 „Ascultați, înțelepților, cuvintele mele!

Luați aminte la mine, pricepuților!

3 Căci urechea*Cap. 6:30;12:11. deosebește cuvintele

cum gustă cerul gurii bucatele.

4 Să alegem ce este drept,

să vedem între noi ce este bun.

5 Iov a zis: ‘Sunt nevinovat*Cap. 33:9.

Și Dumnezeu nu vrea*Cap. 27:2. să-mi dea dreptate;

6 am*Cap. 9:17. dreptate și trec drept mincinos;

rana mea este jalnică, și sunt fără păcat.’

7 Este vreun om ca Iov,

care*Cap. 15:16. să bea batjocura ca apa,

8 care să umble în tovărășia celor ce fac rău,

care să meargă mână în mână cu cei nelegiuiți?

9 Căci*Cap. 9:22,23,30;35:3.Mal. 3:14. el a zis: ‘Nu-i folosește nimic omului

să-și pună plăcerea în Dumnezeu.’

10 Ascultați-mă dar, oameni pricepuți!

Departe*Gen. 18:25.Deut. 32:4.2 Cron. 19:7. Cap. 8:3;36:23.Ps. 92:15.Rom. 9:14. de Dumnezeu nedreptatea,

departe de Cel Atotputernic fărădelegea!

11 El dă omului după*Ps. 62:12.Prov. 24:12.Ier. 32:19.Ezec. 33:20.Mat. 16:27.Rom. 2:6.2 Cor. 5:10.1 Pet. 1:17.Apoc. 22:12. faptele lui,

răsplătește fiecăruia după căile lui.

12 Nu, negreșit, Dumnezeu nu săvârșește fărădelegea;

Cel Atotputernic nu calcă dreptatea*Cap. 8:3..

13 Cine L-a însărcinat să cârmuiască pământul?

Cine I-a dat lumea în grija Lui?

14 Dacă nu s-ar gândi decât la El,

dacă Și-ar lua înapoi*Ps. 104:29. duhul și suflarea,

15 tot ce este carne*Gen. 3:19.Ecl. 12:7. ar pieri deodată

și omul s-ar întoarce în țărână.

16 Dacă ai pricepere, ascultă lucrul acesta,

ia aminte la glasul cuvintelor mele!

17 Oare ar putea să domnească*Gen. 18:25.2 Sam. 23:3. un vrăjmaș al dreptății?

Și vei osândi tu pe Cel drept, pe Cel puternic,

18 care*Exod 22:28. strigă către împărați: ‘Netrebnicilor!’

Și către domnitori: ‘Nelegiuiților!’,

19 care nu*Deut. 10:17.2 Cron. 19:7.Fapte 10:34.Rom. 2:11.Gal. 2:6.Efes. 6:9.Col. 3:25.1 Pet. 1:17. caută la fața celor mari

și nu face deosebire între bogat și sărac,

pentru că toți sunt lucrarea*Cap. 31:15. mâinilor Lui?

20 Într-o clipă, ei își pierd viața.

La miezul nopții*Exod 12:29,30., un popor se clatină și piere. Cel puternic piere,

fără amestecul mâinii vreunui om.

21 Căci Dumnezeu vede*2 Cron. 16:9. Cap. 31:4.Ps. 34:15.Prov. 5:21;15:3.Ier. 16:17;32:19. purtarea tuturor,

privește pașii fiecăruia.

22 Nu*Ps. 139:12.Amos 9:2,3.Evr. 4:13. este nici întuneric, nici umbră a morții

unde să se poată ascunde cei ce fac fărădelegea.

23 Dumnezeu n-are nevoie să privească multă vreme

ca să tragă pe un om la judecată înaintea Lui.

24 El*Dan. 2:21. zdrobește pe cei mari fără cercetare

și pune pe alții în locul lor.

25 Căci El cunoaște faptele lor:

noaptea îi răstoarnă, sunt zdrobiți.

26 Îi lovește ca pe niște nelegiuiți

în fața tuturor.

27 Abătându-se*1 Sam. 15:11. de la El

și părăsind*Ps. 28:5.Is. 5:12. toate căile Lui,

28 ei au făcut*Exod 22:23. să se înalțe la Dumnezeu strigătul săracului.

I-au îndreptat luarea aminte*Cap. 35:9.Iac. 5:4. la strigătul celui nenorocit.

29 Dacă dă El pace, cine poate s-o tulbure?

Dacă Își ascunde El Fața, cine poate să-L vadă?

La fel Se poartă fie cu un popor, fie cu un om,

30 pentru ca nelegiuitul să nu mai stăpânească

și să nu mai fie o*1 Împ. 12:28,30.2 Împ. 21:9. cursă pentru popor.

31 Căci a zis el vreodată lui Dumnezeu:

‘Am fost pedepsit, nu*Dan. 9:7-14. voi mai păcătui;

32 arată-mi ce nu văd;

dacă am făcut nedreptăți, nu voi mai face’?

33 Oare după părerea ta va face Dumnezeu dreptate?

Tu lepezi, tu alegi, și nu eu;

Spune dar ce știi!

34 Oamenii cu pricepere vor fi de părerea mea,

înțeleptul care m-ascultă va gândi ca mine:

35 Iov*Cap. 35:16. vorbește fără pricepere,

și cuvântările lui sunt lipsite de judecată.

36 Să fie încercat dar mai departe,

fiindcă răspunde ca cei răi!

37 Căci adaugă la greșelile lui păcate noi;

bate din palme în mijlocul nostru,

își înmulțește cuvintele împotriva lui Dumnezeu."
