1 Moreover Elihu answered and said,

2 Thinkest thou this to be thy right,

Or sayest thou, My righteousness is more than God’s,

3 That thou sayest, What advantage will it be unto thee?

And, What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?

4 I will answer thee,

And thy companions with thee.

5 Look unto the heavens, and see;

And behold the skies, which are higher than thou.

6 If thou hast sinned, what effectest thou against him?

And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto him?

7 If thou be righteous, what givest thou him?

Or what receiveth he of thy hand?

8 Thy wickedness may hurt a man as thou art;

And thy righteousness may profit a son of man.

9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out;

They cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.

10 But none saith, Where is God my Maker,

Who giveth songs in the night,

11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth,

And maketh us wiser than the birds of the heavens?

12 There they cry, but none giveth answer,

Because of the pride of evil men.

13 Surely God will not hear an empty cry,

Neither will the Almighty regard it.

14 How much less when thou sayest thou beholdest him not,

The cause is before him, and thou waitest for him!

15 But now, because he hath not visited in his anger,

Neither doth he greatly regard arrogance;

16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vanity;

He multiplieth words without knowledge.

1 Elihu a luat din nou cuvântul și a zis:

2 „Îți închipui că ai dreptate

și crezi că te îndreptățești înaintea lui Dumnezeu

3 când*Cap. 21:15;34:9. zici: ‘La ce-mi folosește,

ce câștig am că nu păcătuiesc?’

4 Îți voi răspunde și la aceasta, ție

și prietenilor*Cap. 34:8. tăi totodată.

5 Uită-te*Cap. 22:12. spre ceruri și privește!

Vezi norii cât de sus sunt față de tine?

6 Dacă păcătuiești, ce rău Îi faci Lui?

Și când păcatele ți se înmulțesc, ce-I faci*Prov. 8:36.Ier. 7:19. Lui?

7 Dacă ești drept*Cap. 22:2,3.Ps. 16:2.Prov. 9:12.Rom. 11:35., ce-I dai Lui?

Ce primește El din mâna ta?

8 Răutatea ta nu poate vătăma decât pe semenul tău,

dreptatea ta nu folosește decât fiului omului.

9 Oamenii strigă împotriva mulțimii apăsătorilor*Exod 2:23. Cap. 34:28.,

se plâng de silnicia multora;

10 dar niciunul nu zice: ‘Unde*Is. 51:13. este Dumnezeu, Făcătorul meu,

care*Ps. 42:8;77:6;149:5.Fapte 16:25. ne insuflă cântări de veselie noaptea,

11 care ne învață mai mult decât pe dobitoacele pământului

și ne dă mai multă pricepere*Ps. 94:12. decât păsărilor cerului?’

12 Să tot strige*Prov. 1:28. ei atunci, căci Dumnezeu nu răspunde

din pricina mândriei celor răi.

13 Degeaba strigă, căci Dumnezeu*Cap. 27:9.Prov. 15:29.Is. 1:15.Ier. 11:11. n-ascultă,

Cel Atotputernic nu ia aminte.

14 Măcar că*Cap. 9:11. zici că nu-L vezi,

totuși pricina ta este înaintea Lui: așteaptă-L*Ps. 37:5,6.!

15 Dar, pentru că mânia Lui nu pedepsește*Ps. 89:32. încă,

nu înseamnă că puțin Îi pasă de nelegiuire.

16 Așa că Iov își deschide*Cap. 34:35,37;38:2. gura degeaba

și spune o mulțime de vorbe fără rost."
