1 Elihu also proceeded, and said,

2 Suffer me a little, and I will show thee;

For I have yet somewhat to say on God’s behalf.

3 I will fetch my knowledge from afar,

And will ascribe righteousness to my Maker.

4 For truly my words are not false:

One that is perfect in knowledge is with thee.

5 Behold, God is mighty, and despiseth not any:

He is mighty in strength of understanding.

6 He preserveth not the life of the wicked,

But giveth to the afflicted their right.

7 He withdraweth not his eyes from the righteous:

But with kings upon the throne

He setteth them for ever, and they are exalted.

8 And if they be bound in fetters,

And be taken in the cords of affliction;

9 Then he showeth them their work,

And their transgressions, that they have behaved themselves proudly.

10 He openeth also their ear to instruction,

And commandeth that they return from iniquity.

11 If they hearken and serve him,

They shall spend their days in prosperity,

And their years in pleasures.

12 But if they hearken not, they shall perish by the sword,

And they shall die without knowledge.

13 But they that are godless in heart lay up anger:

They cry not for help when he bindeth them.

14 They die in youth,

And their life perisheth among the unclean.

15 He delivereth the afflicted by their affliction,

And openeth their ear in oppression.

16 Yea, he would have allured thee out of distress

Into a broad place, where there is no straitness;

And that which is set on thy table would be full of fatness.

17 But thou art full of the judgment of the wicked:

Judgment and justice take hold on thee.

18 For let not wrath stir thee up against chastisements;

Neither let the greatness of the ransom turn thee aside.

19 Will thy cry avail, that thou be not in distress,

Or all the forces of thy strength?

20 Desire not the night,

When peoples are cut off in their place.

21 Take heed, regard not iniquity:

For this hast thou chosen rather than affliction.

22 Behold, God doeth loftily in his power:

Who is a teacher like unto him?

23 Who hath enjoined him his way?

Or who can say, Thou hast wrought unrighteousness?

24 Remember that thou magnify his work,

Whereof men have sung.

25 All men have looked thereon;

Man beholdeth it afar off.

26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not;

The number of his years is unsearchable.

27 For he draweth up the drops of water,

Which distil in rain from his vapor,

28 Which the skies pour down

And drop upon man abundantly.

29 Yea, can any understand the spreadings of the clouds,

The thunderings of his pavilion?

30 Behold, he spreadeth his light around him;

And he covereth the bottom of the sea.

31 For by these he judgeth the peoples;

He giveth food in abundance.

32 He covereth his hands with the lightning,

And giveth it a charge that it strike the mark.

33 The noise thereof telleth concerning him,

The cattle also concerning the storm that cometh up.

2 „Așteaptă puțin și voi urma,

căci mai am încă de vorbit pentru Dumnezeu.

3 Îmi voi lua temeiurile de departe

și voi dovedi dreptatea Ziditorului meu.

4 Fii încredințat, cuvântările mele nu sunt minciuni,

ci ai de-a face cu un om cu simțăminte curate.

5 Dumnezeu este puternic, dar nu leapădă pe nimeni

și este puternic*Cap. 9:4;12:13,16;37:23.Ps. 99:4. prin tăria priceperii Lui.

6 El nu lasă pe cel rău să trăiască

și face dreptate celui nenorocit.

7 Nu-Și*Ps. 33:18;34:15. întoarce ochii de la cei fără prihană

și-i pune pe scaunul de domnie cu*Ps. 113:8. împărații,

îi așază pentru totdeauna ca să domnească.

8 Se întâmplă să cadă în lanțuri*Ps. 107:10.

și să fie prinși în legăturile nenorocirii?

9 Le pune înainte faptele lor,

fărădelegile lor, mândria lor.

10 Îi înștiințează*Cap. 33:16,23. ca să se îndrepte,

îi îndeamnă să se întoarcă de la nelegiuire.

11 Dacă ascultă și se supun,

își sfârșesc*Cap. 21:13.Is. 1:19,20. zilele în fericire

și anii în bucurie.

12 Dacă n-ascultă, pier uciși de sabie,

mor în orbirea lor.

13 Nelegiuiții se mânie*Rom. 2:5.,

nu strigă către Dumnezeu când îi înlănțuie;

14 își pierd viața în*Cap. 15:32;22:16.Ps. 55:23. tinerețe,

mor ca cei desfrânați.

15 Dar Dumnezeu scapă pe cel nenorocit prin nenorocirea lui

și prin suferință îl înștiințează.

16 Și pe tine te va scoate din strâmtoare,

ca să te pună la loc*Ps. 18:19;31:8;118:5. larg, în slobozenie deplină,

și masa*Ps. 23:5. ta va fi încărcată cu bucate gustoase*Ps. 36:8..

17 Dar, dacă-ți aperi pricina ca un nelegiuit,

pedeapsa este nedezlipită de pricina ta.

18 Supărarea să nu te împingă la batjocură

și mărimea*Ps. 49:7. prețului răscumpărării să nu te ducă în rătăcire!

19 Oare ar ajunge strigătele*Prov. 11:4. tale să te scoată din necaz

și chiar toate puterile pe care le-ai putea desfășura?

20 Nu suspina după noapte,

care ia popoarele din locul lor.

21 Ferește-te să faci*Ps. 66:18. rău,

căci suferința te îndeamnă*Evr. 11:25. la rău.

22 Dumnezeu este mare în puterea Lui;

cine ar putea să învețe*Is. 40:13,14.Rom. 11:34.1 Cor. 2:16. pe alții ca El?

23 Cine Îi cere socoteală*Cap. 34:13. de căile Lui

și cine îndrăznește să-I*Cap. 34:10. spună: ‘Faci rău’?

24 Nu uita să lauzi*Ps. 92:5.Apoc. 15:3. faptele Lui,

pe care toți oamenii trebuie să le mărească!

25 Orice om le privește,

fiecare muritor le vede de departe.

26 Iată ce mare e Dumnezeu!

Dar noi nu-L putem pricepe*1 Cor. 13:12.,

numărul anilor*Ps. 90:2;102:24,27.Evr. 1:12. Lui nimeni nu l-a pătruns.

27 Căci El trage*Ps. 147:8. la El picăturile de apă,

le preface în abur și dă ploaia,

28 pe care norii*Prov. 3:20. o strecoară

și o picură peste mulțimea oamenilor.

29 Și cine poate pricepe ruperea norului

și bubuitul cortului Său?

30 Iată, El Își întinde lumina*Cap. 37:3. în jurul Lui

și acoperă adâncimile mării.

31 Prin aceste mijloace*Cap. 37:13;38:23.,

El judecă popoarele

și dă*Ps. 136:25.Fapte 14:17. belșug de hrană.

32 Ia fulgerul în mână

și-l aruncă asupra potrivnicilor Lui.

33 Dă de veste că e de față printr-un*1 Împ. 18:41,45. bubuit

și până și turmele Îi simt apropierea.
