1 A good name is rather to be chosen than great riches,

And loving favor rather than silver and gold.

2 The rich and the poor meet together:

Jehovah is the maker of them all.

3 A prudent man seeth the evil, and hideth himself;

But the simple pass on, and suffer for it.

4 The reward of humility and the fear of Jehovah

Is riches, and honor, and life.

5 Thorns and snares are in the way of the perverse:

He that keepeth his soul shall be far from them.

6 Train up a child in the way he should go,

And even when he is old he will not depart from it.

7 The rich ruleth over the poor;

And the borrower is servant to the lender.

8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap calamity;

And the rod of his wrath shall fail.

9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed;

For he giveth of his bread to the poor.

10 Cast out the scoffer, and contention will go out;

Yea, strife and ignominy will cease.

11 He that loveth pureness of heart,

For the grace of his lips the king will be his friend.

12 The eyes of Jehovah preserve him that hath knowledge;

But he overthroweth the words of the treacherous man.

13 The sluggard saith, There is a lion without;

I shall be slain in the streets.

14 The mouth of strange women is a deep pit;

He that is abhorred of Jehovah shall fall therein.

15 Foolishness is bound up in the heart of a child;

But the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.

16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his gain,

And he that giveth to the rich, shall come only to want.

17 Incline thine ear, and hear the words of the wise,

And apply thy heart unto my knowledge.

18 For it is a pleasant thing if thou keep them within thee,

If they be established together upon thy lips.

19 That thy trust may be in Jehovah,

I have made them known to thee this day, even to thee.

20 Have not I written unto thee excellent things

Of counsels and knowledge,

21 To make thee know the certainty of the words of truth,

That thou mayest carry back words of truth to them that send thee?

22 Rob not the poor, because he is poor;

Neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:

23 For Jehovah will plead their cause,

And despoil of life those that despoil them.

24 Make no friendship with a man that is given to anger;

And with a wrathful man thou shalt not go:

25 Lest thou learn his ways,

And get a snare to thy soul.

26 Be thou not one of them that strike hands,

Or of them that are sureties for debts.

27 If thou hast not wherewith to pay,

Why should he take away thy bed from under thee?

28 Remove not the ancient landmark,

Which thy fathers have set.

29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings;

He shall not stand before mean men.

dar cei proști merg înainte și sunt pedepsiți.

este bogăția, slava și viața.

5 Spini*Cap. 15:19. și curse sunt pe calea omului stricat:

cel*1 Ioan 5:18. ce-și păzește sufletul se depărtează de ele.

6 Învață*Efes. 6:4.2 Tim. 3:15. pe copil calea pe care trebuie s-o urmeze,

și când va îmbătrâni, nu se va abate de la ea.

7 Bogatul*Iac. 2:6. stăpânește peste cei săraci,

și cel ce ia cu împrumut este robul celui ce-i dă cu împrumut.

8 Cine*Iov 4:8.Osea 10:13. seamănă nelegiuire, nelegiuire va secera,

și nuiaua nelegiuirii lui este gata.

9 Omul milostiv*2 Cor. 9:6. va fi binecuvântat,

pentru că dă săracului din pâinea lui.

10 Izgonește*Gen. 21:9,10.Ps. 101:5. pe batjocoritor și cearta se va sfârși,

neînțelegerile și ocările vor înceta.

11 Cine*Ps. 101:6. Cap. 16:13. iubește curăția inimii

și are bunăvoința pe buze este prieten cu împăratul.

12 Ochii Domnului păzesc pe cel ce are știință,

dar înfruntă cuvintele celui stricat.

13 Leneșul*Cap. 26:13. zice: „Afară este un leu,

care m-ar putea ucide pe uliță!"

14 Gura*Cap. 2:16;5:3;7:5;23:27. curvelor este o groapă adâncă;

pe cine vrea să-l pedepsească Domnul, acela*Ecl. 7:26. cade în ea.

15 Nebunia este lipită de inima copilului,

dar nuiaua*Cap. 13:24;19:18;23:13,14;29:15,17. certării o va dezlipi de el.

16 Cine asuprește pe sărac ca să-și mărească avuția

va trebui să dea și el altuia mai bogat și va duce lipsă.

17 Pleacă-ți urechea și ascultă cuvintele înțelepților

și ia învățătura mea în inimă!

18 Căci este bine să le păstrezi înăuntrul tău

și să-ți fie toate deodată pe buze.

19 Pentru ca să-ți pui încrederea în Domnul,

vreau să te învăț eu astăzi, da, pe tine.

20 N-am așternut eu oare în scris pentru tine

sfaturi*Cap. 8:6. și cugetări,

21 ca*Luca 1:3,4. să te învăț lucruri temeinice, cuvinte adevărate,

ca*1 Pet. 3:15. să răspunzi cu vorbe adevărate celui ce te trimite?

22 Nu*Exod 23:6.Iov 31:16,21. despuia pe sărac, pentru că este sărac,

și nu asupri*Zah. 7:10.Mal. 3:5. pe nenorocitul care stă la poartă!

23 Căci*1 Sam. 24:12;25:39.Ps. 12:5;35:1,10;68:5;140:12. Cap. 23:11.Ier. 51:36. Domnul le va apăra pricina lor

și va despuia viața celor ce-i despoaie.

24 Nu te împrieteni cu omul mânios

și nu te însoți cu omul iute la mânie,

25 ca nu cumva să te deprinzi cu cărările lui

și să-ți ajungă o cursă pentru suflet.

26 Nu*Cap. 6:1;11:15. fi printre cei ce pun chezășii,

printre cei ce dau zălog pentru datorii!

27 Căci, dacă n-ai cu ce să plătești,

pentru ce ai voi să ți*Cap. 20:16. se ia patul de sub tine?

28 Nu*Deut. 19:14;27:17. Cap. 23:10. muta hotarul cel vechi,

pe care l-au așezat părinții tăi!

29 Dacă vezi un om iscusit în lucrul lui, acela poate sta lângă împărați,

nu lângă oamenii de rând.
