1 The king’s heart is in the hand of Jehovah as the watercourses:

He turneth it whithersoever he will.

2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes;

But Jehovah weigheth the hearts.

3 To do righteousness and justice

Is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.

4 A high look, and a proud heart,

Even the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness;

But every one that is hasty hasteth only to want.

6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue

Is a vapor driven to and fro by them that seek death.

7 The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away,

Because they refuse to do justice.

8 The way of him that is laden with guilt is exceeding crooked;

But as for the pure, his work is right.

9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop,

Than with a contentious woman in a wide house.

10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil:

His neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.

11 When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise;

And when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

12 The righteous man considereth the house of the wicked,

How the wicked are overthrown to their ruin.

13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor,

He also shall cry, but shall not be heard.

14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger;

And a present in the bosom, strong wrath.

15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice;

But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding

Shall rest in the assembly of the dead.

17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man:

He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous;

And the treacherous cometh in the stead of the upright.

19 It is better to dwell in a desert land,

Than with a contentious and fretful woman.

20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise;

But a foolish man swalloweth it up.

21 He that followeth after righteousness and kindness

Findeth life, righteousness, and honor.

22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty,

And bringeth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue

Keepeth his soul from troubles.

24 The proud and haughty man, scoffer is his name;

He worketh in the arrogance of pride.

25 The desire of the sluggard killeth him;

For his hands refuse to labor.

26 There is that coveteth greedily all the day long;

But the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.

27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination;

How much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind!

28 A false witness shall perish;

But the man that heareth shall speak so as to endure.

29 A wicked man hardeneth his face;

But as for the upright, he establisheth his ways.

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding

Nor counsel against Jehovah.

31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle;

But victory is of Jehovah.

2 Omul*Cap. 16:2. socotește că toate căile lui sunt fără prihană,

dar*Cap. 24:12.Luca 16:15. Cel ce cercetează inimile este Domnul.

3 A*1 Sam. 15:22.Ps. 50:8. Cap. 15:8.Is. 1:11.Osea 6:6.Mica 6:7,8. face dreptate și judecată

este mai plăcut Domnului decât jertfele.

4 Privirile*Cap. 6:17. trufașe și inima îngâmfată,

această candelă a celor răi, nu sunt decât păcat.

5 Planurile*Cap. 10:4;13:4. omului harnic nu duc decât la belșug,

dar cel ce lucrează cu grabă n-ajunge decât la lipsă.

6 Comorile câștigate*Cap. 10:2;13:11;20:21.2 Pet. 2:3. cu o limbă mincinoasă

sunt o deșertăciune care fuge, și ele duc la moarte.

7 Silnicia celor răi îi mătură,

pentru că nu vor să facă ce este drept.

8 Cel vinovat merge pe căi sucite,

dar cel nevinovat face ce este bine.

9 Mai*Vers. 19. Cap. 19:13;25:24;27:15. bine să locuiești într-un colț pe acoperiș

decât cu o nevastă gâlcevitoare într-o casă mare.

10 Sufletul*Iac. 4:5. celui rău dorește răul,

semenul lui n-are nicio trecere înaintea lui.

11 Când*Cap. 19:25. este pedepsit batjocoritorul, prostul se face înțelept;

și când se dă învățătură celui înțelept, el capătă știința.

12 Cel neprihănit*Mat. 7:2;18:30.Iac. 2:13. se uită la casa celui rău

și vede ce repede sunt aruncați cei răi în nenorocire.

13 Cine își astupă urechea la strigătul săracului,

nici el nu va căpăta răspuns când va striga.

14 Un dar*Cap. 17:8,23;18:16. făcut în taină potolește mânia

și o mită dată pe ascuns potolește cea mai puternică mânie.

15 Este o bucurie pentru cel neprihănit să facă ce este bine,

dar*Cap. 10:29. pentru cei ce fac răul este o groază.

16 Omul care se abate de la calea înțelepciunii

se va odihni în adunarea celor morți.

17 Cine iubește petrecerile va duce lipsă

și cine iubește vinul și untdelemnul dresurilor nu se îmbogățește.

18 Cel rău slujește ca preț de răscumpărare*Cap. 11:8.Is. 43:3,4. pentru cel neprihănit,

și cel stricat, pentru oamenii fără prihană.

19 Mai*Vers. 9. bine să locuiești într-un pământ pustiu

decât cu o nevastă gâlcevitoare și supărăcioasă.

20 Comori*Ps. 112:3.Mat. 25:3,4. de preț și untdelemn sunt în locuința celui înțelept,

dar omul fără minte le risipește.

21 Cine*Cap. 15:9.Mat. 5:6. urmărește neprihănirea și bunătatea

găsește viață, neprihănire și slavă.

22 Înțeleptul cucerește cetatea*Ecl. 9:14. vitejilor

și doboară puterea în care se încredeau.

23 Cine*Cap. 12:13;13:3;18:21.Iac. 3:2. își păzește gura și limba

își scutește sufletul de multe necazuri.

24 Cel mândru și trufaș se cheamă batjocoritor:

el lucrează cu aprinderea îngâmfării.

25 Poftele leneșului*Cap. 13:4. îl omoară,

pentru că nu vrea să lucreze cu mâinile.

26 Toată ziua o duce numai în pofte,

dar cel*Ps. 37:26;112:9. neprihănit dă fără zgârcenie.

27 Jertfa*Ps. 50:9. Cap. 15:8.Is. 66:3.Ier. 6:20.Amos 5:22. celor răi este o scârbă înaintea Domnului,

cu cât mai mult când o aduc cu gânduri nelegiuite.

28 Martorul*Cap. 19:5,9. mincinos va pieri,

dar omul care ascultă bine va vorbi totdeauna cu izbândă.

29 Cel rău ia o înfățișare nerușinată,

dar omul fără prihană își îmbunătățește calea.

30 Nici*Is. 8:9,10.Ier. 9:23.Fapte 5:39. înțelepciunea, nici priceperea,

nici sfatul n-ajută împotriva Domnului.

31 Calul*Ps. 20:7;33:17.Is. 31:1. este pregătit pentru ziua bătăliei,

dar biruința*Ps. 3:8. este a Domnului.
