1 Doth not wisdom cry,

And understanding put forth her voice?

2 On the top of high places by the way,

Where the paths meet, she standeth;

3 Beside the gates, at the entry of the city,

At the coming in at the doors, she crieth aloud:

4 Unto you, O men, I call;

And my voice is to the sons of men.

5 O ye simple, understand prudence;

And, ye fools, be of an understanding heart.

6 Hear, for I will speak excellent things;

And the opening of my lips shall be right things.

7 For my mouth shall utter truth;

And wickedness is an abomination to my lips.

8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness;

There is nothing crooked or perverse in them.

9 They are all plain to him that understandeth,

And right to them that find knowledge.

10 Receive my instruction, and not silver;

And knowledge rather than choice gold.

11 For wisdom is better than rubies;

And all the things that may be desired are not to be compared unto it.

12 I wisdom have made prudence my dwelling,

And find out knowledge and discretion.

13 The fear of Jehovah is to hate evil:

Pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way,

And the perverse mouth, do I hate.

14 Counsel is mine, and sound knowledge:

I am understanding; I have might.

15 By me kings reign,

And princes decree justice.

16 By me princes rule,

And nobles, even all the judges of the earth.

17 I love them that love me;

And those that seek me diligently shall find me.

18 Riches and honor are with me;

Yea, durable wealth and righteousness.

19 My fruit is better than gold, yea, than fine gold;

And my revenue than choice silver.

20 I walk in the way of righteousness,

In the midst of the paths of justice;

21 That I may cause those that love me to inherit substance,

And that I may fill their treasuries.

22 Jehovah possessed me in the beginning of his way,

Before his works of old.

23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning,

Before the earth was.

24 When there were no depths, I was brought forth,

When there were no fountains abounding with water.

25 Before the mountains were settled,

Before the hills was I brought forth;

26 While as yet he had not made the earth, nor the fields,

Nor the beginning of the dust of the world.

27 When he established the heavens, I was there:

When he set a circle upon the face of the deep,

28 When he made firm the skies above,

When the fountains of the deep became strong,

29 When he gave to the sea its bound,

That the waters should not transgress his commandment,

When he marked out the foundations of the earth;

30 Then I was by him, as a master workman;

And I was daily his delight,

Rejoicing always before him,

31 Rejoicing in his habitable earth;

And my delight was with the sons of men.

32 Now therefore, my sons, hearken unto me;

For blessed are they that keep my ways.

33 Hear instruction, and be wise,

And refuse it not.

34 Blessed is the man that heareth me,

Watching daily at my gates,

Waiting at the posts of my doors.

35 For whoso findeth me findeth life,

And shall obtain favor of Jehovah.

36 But he that sinneth against me wrongeth his own soul:

All they that hate me love death.

1 Nu strigă înțelepciunea*Cap. 1:20;9:3.

și nu-și înalță priceperea glasul?

2 Ea se așază sus, pe înălțimi,

afară pe drum, la răspântii,

3 și strigă lângă porți, la intrarea cetății,

la intrarea porților:

4 „Oamenilor, către voi strig

și spre fiii oamenilor se îndreaptă glasul meu.

5 Învățați-vă minte, proștilor,

și înțelepțiți-vă, nebunilor!

6 Ascultați, căci am lucruri*Cap. 22:20. mari de spus

și buzele mi se deschid ca să învețe pe alții ce este drept!

7 Căci gura mea vestește adevărul

și buzele mele urăsc minciuna!

8 Toate cuvintele gurii mele sunt drepte,

n-au nimic neadevărat, nici sucit în ele.

9 Toate sunt lămurite pentru cel priceput

și drepte pentru cei ce au găsit știința.

10 Primiți mai degrabă învățăturile mele decât argintul

și mai degrabă știința decât aurul scump.

11 Căci*Iov 28:15.Ps. 19:10;119:127. Cap. 3:14,15;4:5,7; 16:16. înțelepciunea prețuiește mai mult decât mărgăritarele

și niciun lucru de preț nu se poate asemui cu ea.

12 Eu, înțelepciunea, am ca locuință mintea

și pot născoci cele mai chibzuite planuri.

13 Frica*Cap. 16:6. de Domnul este urârea răului;

trufia și mândria*Cap. 6:17., purtarea rea

și gura*Cap. 4:24. mincinoasă – iată ce urăsc eu.

14 De la mine vin sfatul și izbânda,

eu sunt priceperea, a mea*Ecl. 7:19. este puterea.

15 Prin*Dan. 2:21.Rom. 13:1. mine împărățesc împărații

și dau voievozii porunci drepte.

16 Prin mine cârmuiesc dregătorii

și mai-marii, toți judecătorii pământului.

17 Eu*1 Sam. 2:30.Ps. 91:14.Ioan 14:21. iubesc pe cei ce mă iubesc,

și cei*Iac. 1:5. ce mă caută cu tot dinadinsul mă găsesc.

18 Cu mine sunt bogăția*Cap. 3:16.Mat. 6:33. și slava,

avuțiile trainice și dreptatea.

19 Rodul*Cap. 3:14;8:10. meu este mai bun decât aurul cel mai curat

și venitul meu întrece argintul cel mai ales.

20 Eu umblu pe calea nevinovăției,

pe mijlocul cărărilor neprihănirii,

21 ca să dau o adevărată moștenire celor ce mă iubesc

și să le umplu vistieriile.

22 Domnul*Cap. 3:19.Ioan 1:1. m-a făcut cea dintâi dintre lucrările Lui,

înaintea celor mai vechi lucrări ale Lui.

23 Eu am fost așezată din*Ps. 2:6. veșnicie, înainte de orice început,

înainte de a fi pământul.

24 Am fost născută când încă nu erau adâncuri,

nici izvoare încărcate cu ape;

25 am fost născută înainte*Iov 15:7,8. de întărirea munților,

înainte de a fi dealurile,

26 când nu erau încă nici pământul, nici câmpiile,

nici cea dintâi fărâmă din pulberea lumii.

27 Când a întocmit Domnul cerurile, eu eram de față;

când a tras o zare pe fața adâncului,

28 când a pironit norii sus

și când au țâșnit cu putere izvoarele adâncului,

29 când*Gen. 1:9,10.Iov 38:10,11.Ps. 33:7;104:9.Ier. 5:22. a pus un hotar mării,

ca apele să nu treacă peste porunca Lui,

când a pus temeliile*Iov 38:4. pământului,

30 eu eram*Ioan 1:1,2,18. meșterul Lui, la lucru lângă El,

și în toate zilele eram desfătarea*Mat. 3:17.Col. 1:13. Lui,

jucând neîncetat înaintea Lui,

31 jucând pe rotocolul pământului Său

și găsindu-mi plăcerea*Ps. 16:3. în fiii oamenilor.

32 Și acum, fiilor, ascultați-mă,

căci ferice*Ps. 119:1,2;128:1,2.Luca 11:28. de cei ce păzesc căile mele!

33 Ascultați învățătura, ca să vă faceți înțelepți,

și nu lepădați sfatul meu!

34 Ferice*Cap. 3:13,18. de omul care m-ascultă,

care veghează zilnic la porțile mele

și păzește pragul ușii mele!

35 Căci cel ce mă găsește, găsește viața

și capătă bunăvoința*Cap. 12:2. Domnului.

36 Dar cel ce păcătuiește împotriva mea își vatămă*Cap. 2:20. sufletul său;

toți cei ce mă urăsc pe mine iubesc moartea."
