1 Brethren, my heart’s desire and my supplication to God is for them, that they may be saved. 2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge. 3 For being ignorant of God’s righteousness, and seeking to establish their own, they did not subject themselves to the righteousness of God. 4 For Christ is the end of the law unto righteousness to every one that believeth. 5 For Moses writeth that the man that doeth the righteousness which is of the law shall live thereby. 6 But the righteousness which is of faith saith thus, Say not in thy heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring Christ down:) 7 or, Who shall descend into the abyss? (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead.) 8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach: 9 because if thou shalt confess with thy mouth Jesus as Lord, and shalt believe in thy heart that God raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved: 10 for with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. 11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be put to shame. 12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek: for the same Lord is Lord of all, and is rich unto all that call upon him: 13 for, Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. 14 How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 and how shall they preach, except they be sent? even as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that bring glad tidings of good things!

16 But they did not all hearken to the glad tidings. For Isaiah saith, Lord, who hath believed our report? 17 So belief cometh of hearing, and hearing by the word of Christ. 18 But I say, Did they not hear? Yea, verily,

Their sound went out into all the earth,

And their words unto the ends of the world.

19 But I say, Did Israel not know? First Moses saith,

I will provoke you to jealousy with that which is no nation,

With a nation void of understanding will I anger you.

20 And Isaiah is very bold, and saith,

I was found of them that sought me not;

I became manifest unto them that asked not of me.

21 But as to Israel he saith, All the day long did I spread out my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

Cap. 9:31. ei au râvnă pentru Dumnezeu, dar fără pricepere, 3 pentru că, întrucât n-au cunoscut neprihănirea pe care o dă Dumnezeu*Cap. 1:17;9:30., au căutat să-și pună înainte o neprihănire a lor înșiși*Filip. 3:9. și nu s-au supus astfel neprihănirii pe care o dă Dumnezeu. 4 Căci Hristos*Mat. 5:17.Gal. 3:24. este sfârșitul Legii, pentru ca oricine crede în El să poată căpăta neprihănirea. 5 În adevăr, Moise scrie că omul*Lev. 18:5.Neem. 9:29.Ezec. 20:11,13,21.Gal. 3:12. care împlinește neprihănirea pe care o dă Legea va trăi prin ea. 6 Pe când iată cum vorbește neprihănirea pe care o dă credința: „Să*Deut. 30:12,13. nu zici în inima ta: ‘Cine se va sui în cer?’ (să coboare adică pe Hristos din cer) 7 sau: ‘Cine se va coborî în adânc?’ (să scoale adică pe Hristos din morți)." 8 Ce zice ea deci? „Cuvântul este aproape*Deut. 30:14. de tine: în gura ta și în inima ta." Și cuvântul acesta este cuvântul credinței, pe care-l propovăduim noi. 9 Dacă*Mat. 10:32.Luca 12:8.Fapte 8:37. mărturisești deci cu gura ta pe Isus ca Domn și dacă crezi în inima ta că Dumnezeu L-a înviat din morți, vei fi mântuit. 10 Căci prin credința din inimă se capătă neprihănirea și prin mărturisirea cu gura se ajunge la mântuire, 11 după cum zice Scriptura: „Oricine*Is. 28:16;49:23.Ier. 17:7. Cap. 9:33. crede în El nu va fi dat de rușine." 12 În adevăr, nu*Fapte 15:9. Cap. 3:22.Gal. 3:28. este nicio deosebire între iudeu și grec, căci toți au același*Fapte 10:36. Cap. 3:29.1 Tim. 2:5. Domn, care*Efes. 1:7;2:4,7. este bogat în îndurare pentru toți cei ce-L cheamă. 13 Fiindcă*Ioel 2:32.Fapte 2:21. oricine va chema Numele*Fapte 9:14. Domnului va fi mântuit.

14 Dar cum vor chema pe Acela în care n-au crezut? Și cum vor crede în Acela despre care n-au auzit? Și cum vor auzi despre El fără propovăduitor? 15 Și cum vor propovădui, dacă nu sunt trimiși? După cum este scris: „Cât*Is. 52:7.Naum 1:15. de frumoase sunt picioarele celor ce vestesc pacea, ale celor ce vestesc Evanghelia!" 16 Dar nu*Cap. 3:3.Evr. 4:2. toți au ascultat de Evanghelie. Căci Isaia zice: „Doamne*Is. 53:1.Ioan 12:38., cine a crezut propovăduirea noastră?" 17 Astfel, credința vine în urma auzirii, iar auzirea vine prin Cuvântul lui Hristos. 18 Dar eu întreb: „N-au auzit ei?" Ba da, căci „glasul lor a răsunat prin*Ps. 19:4.Mat. 24:14;28:19.Marcu 16:15.Col. 1:6,23. tot pământul și*1 Împ. 18:10.Mat. 4:8. cuvintele lor au ajuns până la marginile lumii". 19 Dar întreb iarăși: „N-a știut Israel lucrul acesta?" Ba da, căci Moise, cel dintâi, zice: „Vă*Deut. 32:21. Cap. 11:11. voi întărâta la pizmă prin ceea ce nu este neam, vă voi ațâța mânia printr-un neam*Tit 3:3. fără pricepere." 20 Și Isaia merge cu îndrăzneala până acolo că zice: „Am fost*Is. 65:1. Cap. 9:30. găsit de cei ce nu Mă căutau; M-am făcut cunoscut celor ce nu întrebau de Mine." 21 Pe când, despre Israel zice: „Toată*Is. 65:2. ziua Mi-am întins mâinile spre un norod răzvrătit și împotrivitor la vorbă."
