1 And Naomi had a kinsman of her husband’s, a mighty man of wealth, of the family of Elimelech, and his name was Boaz. 2 And Ruth the Moabitess said unto Naomi, Let me now go to the field, and glean among the ears of grain after him in whose sight I shall find favor. And she said unto her, Go, my daughter. 3 And she went, and came and gleaned in the field after the reapers: and her hap was to light on the portion of the field belonging unto Boaz, who was of the family of Elimelech. 4 And, behold, Boaz came from Beth-lehem, and said unto the reapers, Jehovah be with you. And they answered him, Jehovah bless thee. 5 Then said Boaz unto his servant that was set over the reapers, Whose damsel is this? 6 And the servant that was set over the reapers answered and said, It is the Moabitish damsel that came back with Naomi out of the country of Moab: 7 and she said, Let me glean, I pray you, and gather after the reapers among the sheaves. So she came, and hath continued even from the morning until now, save that she tarried a little in the house.

8 Then said Boaz unto Ruth, Hearest thou not, my daughter? Go not to glean in another field, neither pass from hence, but abide here fast by my maidens. 9 Let thine eyes be on the field that they do reap, and go thou after them: have I not charged the young men that they shall not touch thee? and when thou art athirst, go unto the vessels, and drink of that which the young men have drawn. 10 Then she fell on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, and said unto him, Why have I found favor in thy sight, that thou shouldest take knowledge of me, seeing I am a foreigner? 11 And Boaz answered and said unto her, It hath fully been showed me, all that thou hast done unto thy mother-in-law since the death of thy husband; and how thou hast left thy father and thy mother, and the land of thy nativity, and art come unto a people that thou knewest not heretofore. 12 Jehovah recompense thy work, and a full reward be given thee of Jehovah, the God of Israel, under whose wings thou art come to take refuge. 13 Then she said, Let me find favor in thy sight, my lord, for that thou hast comforted me, and for that thou hast spoken kindly unto thy handmaid, though I be not as one of thy handmaidens.

14 And at meal-time Boaz said unto her, Come hither, and eat of the bread, and dip thy morsel in the vinegar. And she sat beside the reapers, and they reached her parched grain, and she did eat, and was sufficed, and left thereof. 15 And when she was risen up to glean, Boaz commanded his young men, saying, Let her glean even among the sheaves, and reproach her not. 16 And also pull out some for her from the bundles, and leave it, and let her glean, and rebuke her not.

17 So she gleaned in the field until even; and she beat out that which she had gleaned, and it was about an ephah of barley. 18 And she took it up, and went into the city; and her mother-in-law saw what she had gleaned: and she brought forth and gave to her that which she had left after she was sufficed. 19 And her mother-in-law said unto her, Where hast thou gleaned to-day? and where hast thou wrought? blessed be he that did take knowledge of thee. And she showed her mother-in-law with whom she had wrought, and said, The man’s name with whom I wrought to-day is Boaz. 20 And Naomi said unto her daughter-in-law, Blessed be he of Jehovah, who hath not left off his kindness to the living and to the dead. And Naomi said unto her, The man is nigh of kin unto us, one of our near kinsmen. 21 And Ruth the Moabitess said, Yea, he said unto me, Thou shalt keep fast by my young men, until they have ended all my harvest. 22 And Naomi said unto Ruth her daughter-in-law, It is good, my daughter, that thou go out with his maidens, and that they meet thee not in any other field. 23 So she kept fast by the maidens of Boaz, to glean unto the end of barley harvest and of wheat harvest; and she dwelt with her mother-in-law.

Ea i-a răspuns: „Du-te, fiica mea." 3 Ea s-a dus într-un ogor să strângă spice pe urma secerătorilor. Și s-a întâmplat că ogorul acela era al lui Boaz, care era din familia lui Elimelec. 4 Și iată că Boaz a venit din Betleem și a zis secerătorilor: „Domnul*Ps. 129:7,8.Luca 1:28.2 Tes. 3:16. să fie cu voi!" Ei i-au răspuns: „Domnul să te binecuvânteze!" 5 Și Boaz a zis slujitorului însărcinat cu privegherea secerătorilor: „A cui este tânăra aceasta?" 6 Slujitorul însărcinat cu privegherea secerătorilor a răspuns: „Este o tânără moabită, care s-a întors*Cap. 1:22. cu Naomi din țara Moabului. 7 Ea a zis: ‘Dă-mi voie să strâng și să culeg spice dintre snopi, rămase pe urma secerătorilor.’ Și de azi-dimineață, de când a venit, a stat în picioare până acum și nu s-a odihnit decât o clipă în casă." 8 Boaz a zis către Rut: „Ascultă, fiică, să nu te duci să culegi spice în alt ogor; să nu te depărtezi de aici și rămâi cu slujnicele mele. 9 Uită-te unde vor secera pe câmp și du-te după ele. Am poruncit slugilor mele să nu se atingă de tine. Și când îți va fi sete, să te duci la vase și să bei din ce vor scoate slugile." 10 Atunci, ea s-a aruncat*1 Sam. 25:23. cu fața la pământ și i-a zis: „Cum am căpătat eu trecere înaintea ta, ca să te îngrijești de mine, o străină?" 11 Boaz i-a răspuns: „Mi s-a spus tot*Cap. 1:14,16,17. ce ai făcut pentru soacră-ta de la moartea bărbatului tău și cum ai părăsit pe tatăl tău și pe mama ta și țara în care te-ai născut, ca să mergi la un popor pe care nu-l cunoșteai mai înainte. 12 Domnul să-ți răsplătească*1 Sam. 24:19. ce ai făcut și plata să-ți fie deplină din partea Domnului Dumnezeului lui Israel, sub ale*Cap. 1:16.Ps. 17:8;36:7;57:1;63:7. cărui aripi ai venit să te adăpostești!" 13 Și ea a zis: „O! să*Gen. 33:15.1 Sam. 1:18. capăt trecere înaintea ta, domnul meu! Căci tu m-ai mângâiat și vorbele tale au mers la inima slujnicei tale. Și totuși eu nu*1 Sam. 25:41. sunt nici măcar ca una din slujnicele tale." 14 La vremea prânzului, Boaz a zis către Rut: „Apropie-te, mănâncă pâine și înmoaie-ți bucata în oțet." Ea a șezut lângă secerători. I-au dat grăunțe prăjite, a mâncat și s-a săturat*Vers. 8. și ce a rămas a strâns. 15 Apoi s-a sculat să culeagă spice. Boaz a dat următoarea poruncă slujitorilor săi: „Lăsați-o să culeagă spice și între snopi și să n-o opriți; 16 și chiar voi să-i scoateți din snopi câteva spice, s-o lăsați să culeagă spice și să n-o înfruntați." 17 Ea a cules spice de pe câmp până seara și a bătut ce culesese. A ieșit aproape o efă de orz. 18 A luat-o și a intrat în cetate și soacră-sa a văzut ce culesese. Rut a scos și rămășițele de la prânz și*Vers. 14. i le-a dat. 19 Soacră-sa i-a zis: „Unde ai cules astăzi spice și unde ai muncit? Binecuvântat să fie cel ce s-a îngrijit*Vers. 10.Ps. 41:1. de tine!" Și Rut a spus soacrei sale la cine muncise: „Omul la care am muncit azi", a zis ea, „se numește Boaz." 20 Naomi a zis nurorii sale: „Să fie binecuvântat*Cap. 3:10.2 Sam. 2:5.Iov 29:13. de Domnul, care este plin de îndurare*Prov. 17:17. pentru cei vii, cum a fost și pentru cei ce au murit. Omul acesta este rudă cu noi", i-a mai spus Naomi, „este din cei ce au*Cap. 3:9;4:6. drept de răscumpărare asupra noastră." 21 Rut, Moabita, a adăugat: „El mi-a mai zis: ‘Rămâi cu slugile mele, până vor isprăvi de secerat.’" 22 Și Naomi a zis către noră-sa Rut: „Este bine, fiica mea, să ieși cu slujnicele lui și să nu te întâlnească cineva în alt ogor." 23 Ea s-a ținut dar de slujnicele lui Boaz, ca să culeagă spice, până la sfârșitul seceratului orzurilor și seceratului grâului. Și locuia cu soacră-sa.
