A Song of Ascents; of Solomon.

1 Except Jehovah build the house,

They labor in vain that build it:

Except Jehovah keep the city,

The watchman waketh but in vain.

2 It is vain for you to rise up early,

To take rest late,

To eat the bread of toil;

For so he giveth unto his beloved sleep.

3 Lo, children are a heritage of Jehovah;

And the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4 As arrows in the hand of a mighty man,

So are the children of youth.

5 Happy is the man that hath his quiver full of them:

They shall not be put to shame,

When they speak with their enemies in the gate.

Un psalm al lui Solomon

1 Dacă nu zidește Domnul o casă,

degeaba lucrează cei ce o zidesc;

dacă nu*Ps. 121:3-5. păzește Domnul o cetate,

degeaba veghează cel ce o păzește.

2 Degeaba vă sculați de dimineață și vă culcați târziu

ca să mâncați*Gen. 3:17,19. o pâine câștigată cu durere,

căci preaiubiților Lui El le dă pâine ca în somn.

3 Iată, fiii*Gen. 33:5;48:4.Ios. 24:3,4. sunt o moștenire de la Domnul,

rodul*Deut. 28:4. pântecelui este o răsplată dată de El.

4 Ca săgețile în mâna unui războinic,

așa sunt fiii făcuți la tinerețe.

5 Ferice de omul care își umple tolba de săgeți cu ei!

Căci ei*Iov 5:4.Prov. 27:11. nu vor rămâne de rușine

când vor vorbi cu vrăjmașii lor la poartă.
