1 柔和的回答使烈怒消退，

暴戾的话激动怒气。

2 智慧人的舌头阐扬知识；

愚昧人的口发出愚妄。

3 耶和华的眼目无所不在；

坏人好人他都鉴察。

4 说安慰话的舌头是生命树；

奸恶的舌头使人心碎。

5 愚妄人藐视父亲的管教；

看重责备的是精明的人。

6 义人家中财宝丰富；

恶人的收入却带来扰害。

7 智慧人的嘴唇散播知识；

愚昧人的心并不是这样。

8 恶人的祭物是耶和华厌恶的；

正直人的祷告却是他所喜悦的。

9 恶人的道路是耶和华厌恶的；

追求公义的人却是他所爱的。

10 离弃正路的必受严厉的管教；

恨恶责备的必致死亡。

11 阴间和灭亡展露在耶和华面前，

何况世人的心呢？

12 好讥笑人的不喜爱责备他的人，

也不到智慧人那里去。

13 喜乐的心使人脸上容光焕发；

心中愁苦使人精神颓丧。

14 聪明人的心寻求知识，

愚昧人的口只吃愚妄。

15 困苦人的日子尽是艰难；

心中畅快的好象常享丰筵。

16 财物虽少而敬畏耶和华，

胜过财物丰富却烦恼不安。

17 吃素菜而彼此相爱，

胜过吃肥牛却彼此憎恨。

18 脾气暴烈的人常引起纷争；

不轻易动怒的可平息争执。

19 懒惰人的道路好象荆棘篱笆；

正直人的路径是平坦的大道。

20 智慧的儿子使父亲快乐；

愚昧人却藐视自己的母亲。

21 无知的人以愚妄为乐；

聪明人却行事正直。

22 不经商议，计划必定失败；

谋士众多，计划就可成功。

23 应对得当，自己也觉喜乐；

合时的话，多么美好！

24 生命之路领明慧人向上，

因此他可以离开在下面的阴间。

25 耶和华必拆毁骄傲人的家，

却要立定寡妇的地界。

26 邪恶的思想是耶和华厌恶的；

恩慈的话却是纯净的。

27 贪爱不义之财的祸害自己的家；

恨恶贿赂的必可以存活。

28 义人的心思想怎样回答；

恶人的口发出恶言。

29 耶和华远离恶人，

却垂听义人的祷告。

30 眼中的光采使人心快乐；

好消息使骨头滋润。

31 听从有关生命之责备的，

必住在智慧人中间。

32 轻忽管教的是藐视自己；

听从责备的却得着智慧*"智慧"原文作"心"。

33 敬畏耶和华是智慧的教训；

尊荣以先，必有谦卑。
