1 ,,Luaţi aminte ceruri, şi voi vorbi; Ascultă, pămîntule, cuvintele gurii mele.
2 Ca ploaia să curgă învăţăturile mele, Ca roua să cadă cuvîntul meu, Ca ploaia repede pe verdeaţă, Ca picăturile de ploaie pe iarbă!
3 Căci voi vesti Numele Domnului. Daţi slavă Dumnezeului nostru!
4 El este Stînca; lucrările Lui sînt desăvîrşite, Căci toate căile Lui sînt drepte; El este un Dumnezeu credincios şi fără nedreptate, El este drept şi curat.
5 Ei s'au stricat; Netrebnicia copiilor Lui, este ruşinea lor! Neam îndărătnic şi stricat!
6 Pe Domnul îl răsplătiţi astfel! Popor nechibzuit şi fără înţelepciune! Nu este El oare Tatăl tău, care te -a făcut, Te -a întocmit, şi ţi -a dat fiinţă?
7 Adu-ţi aminte de zilele din vechime, Socoteşte anii, vîrstă de oameni după vîrstă de oameni, Întreabă pe tatăl tău, şi te va învăţa, Pe bătrînii tăi, şi îţi vor spune.
8 Cînd Cel Prea Înalt a dat o moştenire neamurilor, Cînd a despărţit pe copiii oamenilor, A pus hotare popoarelor, După numărul copiilor lui Israel,
9 Căci partea Domnului, este poporul Lui, Iacov este partea Lui de moştenire.
10 El l -a găsit într'un ţinut pustiu, Într'o singurătate plină de urlete înfricoşate; L -a înconjurat, l -a îngrijit, Şi l -a păzit ca lumina ochiului Lui.
11 Ca vulturul care îşi scutură cuibul, Sboară deasupra puilor, Îşi întinde aripile, îi ia, Şi -i poartă pe penele lui:
12 Aşa a călăuzit Domnul singur pe poporul Său, Şi nu era niciun dumnezeu străin cu El.
13 L -a suit pe înălţimile ţării, Şi Israel a mîncat roadele cîmpului, I -a dat să sugă miere din stîncă, Untdelemnul care iese din stînca cea mai tare,
14 Untul dela vaci şi laptele oilor, Cu grăsimea mieilor, A berbecilor din Basan şi a ţapilor, Cu grăsimea grîului, Şi ai băut vinul, sîngele strugurelui.
15 Israel s'a îngrăşat, şi a asvîrlit din picior; -Te-ai îngrăşat, te-ai îngroşat şi te-ai lăţit! -Şi a părăsit pe Dumnezeu, Ziditorul lui, A nesocotit Sînca mîntuirii lui,
16 L-au întărîtat la gelozie prin dumnezei străini, L-au mîniat prin urîciuni;
17 Au adus jertfe dracilor, unor idoli cari nu sînt dumnezei, Unor dumnezei pe cari nu -i cunoşteau, Dumnezei noi, veniţi de curînd, De cari nu se temuseră părinţii voştri.
18 Ai părăsit Stînca cea care te -a născut, Şi ai uitat pe Dumnezeul, care te -a întocmit.
19 Domnul a văzut lucrul acesta, şi S'a mîniat, S'a supărat pe fiii şi fiicele Lui.
20 El a zis: ,,Îmi voi ascunde Faţa de ei, Şi voi vedea care le va fi sfîrşitul, Căci sînt un neam stricat, Şînt nişte copii necredincioşi.
21 Mi-au întărîtat gelozia prin ceea ce nu este Dumnezeu, M'au mîniat prin idolii lor deşerţi; Şi Eu îi voi întărîta la gelozie printr'un popor care nu este un popor. Îi voi mînia printr'un neam fără pricepere.
22 Căci focul mîniei Mele s'a aprins, Şi va arde pînă în fundul locuinţei morţilor, Va nimici pămîntul şi roadele lui, Va arde temeliile munţilor.
23 Voi îngrămădi toate nenorocirile peste ei, Îmi voi arunca toate săgeţile împotriva lor.
24 Vor fi topiţi de foame, stinşi de friguri, Şi de boli cumplite; Voi trimete în ei dinţii fiarelor sălbatice Şi otrava şerpilor.
25 Afară, vor peri de sabie, Şi înlăuntru, vor peri de groază: Şi tînărul şi fata, Şi copilul de ţîţă ca şi bătrînul.
26 Voiam să zic: ,Îi voi lua cu o suflare`, Le voi şterge pomenirea dintre oameni!
27 Dar Mă tem de ocările vrăjmaşului, Mă tem ca nu cumva vrăjmaşii lor să se amăgească, Şi să zică: ,Mînă noastră cea puternică, Şi nu Domnul a făcut toate aceste lucruri`.
28 Ei nu sînt un neam care şi -a perdut bunul simţ, Şi nu -i pricepere în ei.
29 Dacă ar fi fost înţelepţi, ar înţelege, Şi s'ar gîndi la ce li se va întîmpla.
30 Cum ar urmări unul singur o mie din ei, Şi cum ar pune doi pe fugă zece mii, Dacă nu i-ar fi vîndut Stînca, Dacă nu i-ar fi vîndul Domnul?
31 Căci stînca lor nu este ca Stînca noastră, Vrăjmaşii noştri înşişi sînt judecători în această privinţă.
32 Ci viţa lor este din sadul Sodomei Şi din ţinutul Gomorei; Strugurii lor sînt struguri otrăviţi, Bobiţele lor sînt amare;
33 Vinul lor este venin de şerpi, Este otravă cumplită de aspidă.
34 Oare nu este ascuns lucrul acesta la Mine, Pecetluit în comorile Mele?
35 A Mea este răsbunarea şi Eu voi răsplăti, Cînd va începe să le alunece piciorul! Căci ziua nenorocirii lor este aproape, Şi ceea ce -i aşteaptă nu va zăbovi.`` -
36 Domnul va judeca pe poporul Său, Dar va avea milă de robii Săi, Văzînd că puterea le este sleită, Şi că nu mai este nici rob nici slobod.
37 El va zice: ,,Unde sînt dumnezeii lor, Stînca aceea care le slujea de adăpost,
38 Dumnezeii aceia cari mîncau grăsimea jertfelor lor, Cari beau vinul jertfelor lor de băutură? Să se scoale, să vă ajute, Şi să vă ocrotească!
39 Să ştiţi dar că Eu sînt Dumnezeu, Şi că nu este alt dumnezeu afară de Mine; Eu dau viaţă şi Eu omor, Eu rănesc şi Eu tămăduiesc, Şi nimeni nu poate scoate pe cineva din mîna Mea.
40 Căci Îmi ridic mîna spre cer, Şi zic: ,Cît este de adevărat că trăiesc în veci,
41 Atît este de adevărat că atunci cînd voi ascuţi fulgerul săbiei Mele, Şi voi pune mîna să fac judecată, Mă voi răzbuna împotriva protivnicilor Mei, Şi voi pedepsi pe cei ce Mă urăsc;
42 Sabia Mea le va înghiţi carnea, Şi-Mi voi îmbăta săgeţile de sînge, De sîngele celor ucişi şi prinşi, Din capetele fruntaşilor vrăjmaşului.`
43 Neamuri, cîntaţi laudele poporului Lui! Căci Domnul răzbună sîngele robilor Săi, El Se răzbună împotriva protivnicilor Săi, Şi face ispăşire pentru ţara Lui, pentru poporul Lui.``
44 Moise a venit şi a rostit toate cuvintele cîntării acesteia în faţa poporului; Iosua, fiul lui Nun, era cu el.
45 Dupăce a isprăvit Moise de rostit toate cuvintele acestea înaintea întregului Israel,
46 le -a zis: ,,Puneţi-vă la inimă toate cuvintele pe cari vă jur astăzi să le porunciţi copiilor voştri, ca să păzească şi să împlinească toate cuvintele legii acesteia.
47 Căci nu este un lucru fără însemnătate pentru voi; este viaţa voastră, şi prin aceasta vă veţi lungi zilele în ţara pe care o veţi lua în stăpînire, dupăce veţi trece Iordanul.
48 În aceeaş zi, Domnul a vorbit lui Moise, şi a zis:
49 ,Suie-te pe muntele acesta Abarim, pe muntele Nebo în ţara Moabului, în faţa Ierihonului; şi priveşte ţara Canaanului pe care o dau în stăpînire copiilor lui Israel.
50 Tu vei muri pe muntele pe care te vei sui, şi vei fi adăugat la poporul tău, după cum Aaron, fratele tău, a murit pe muntele Hor şi a fost adăugat la poporul lui,
51 pentrucă aţi păcătuit împotriva Mea în mijlocul copiilor lui Israel, lîngă apele Meriba, la Cades, în pustia Ţin, şi nu M'aţi sfinţit în mijlocul copiilor lui Israel.
52 Tu vei vedea doar de departe ţara dinaintea ta; dar nu vei intra în ţara pe cre o dau copiilor lui Israel.`
1 `Give ear, O heavens, and I speak; And thou dost hear, O earth, sayings of my mouth!
2 Drop as rain doth My doctrine; Flow as dew doth My sayings; As storms on the tender grass, And as showers on the herb,
3 For the Name of Jehovah I proclaim, Ascribe ye greatness to our God!
4 The Rock! -- perfect [is] His work, For all His ways [are] just; God of stedfastness, and without iniquity: Righteous and upright [is] He.
5 It hath done corruptly to Him; Their blemish is not His sons`, A generation perverse and crooked!
6 To Jehovah do ye act thus, O people foolish and not wise? Is not He thy father -- thy possessor? He made thee, and doth establish thee.
7 Remember days of old -- Understand the years of many generations -- Ask thy father, and he doth tell thee; Thine elders, and they say to thee:
8 In the Most High causing nations to inherit, In His separating sons of Adam -- He setteth up the borders of the peoples By the number of the sons of Israel.
9 For Jehovah`s portion [is] His people, Jacob [is] the line of His inheritance.
10 He findeth him in a land -- a desert, And in a void -- a howling wilderness, He turneth him round -- He causeth him to understand -- He keepeth him as the apple of His eye.
11 As an eagle waketh up its nest, Over its young ones fluttereth, Spreadeth its wings -- taketh them, Beareth them on its pinions; --
12 Jehovah alone doth lead him, And there is no strange god with him.
13 He maketh him ride on high places of earth, And he eateth increase of the fields, And He maketh him suck honey from a rock, And oil out of the flint of a rock;
14 Butter of the herd, and milk of the flock, With fat of lambs, and rams, sons of Bashan, And he-goats, with fat of kidneys of wheat; And of the blood of the grape thou dost drink wine!
15 And Jeshurun waxeth fat, and doth kick: Thou hast been fat -- thou hast been thick, Thou hast been covered. And he leaveth God who made him, And dishonoureth the Rock of his salvation.
16 They make Him zealous with strangers, With abominations they make Him angry.
17 They sacrifice to demons -- no god! Gods they have not known -- New ones -- from the vicinity they came; Not feared them have your fathers!
18 The Rock that begat thee thou forgettest, And neglectest God who formeth thee.
19 And Jehovah seeth and despiseth -- For the provocation of His sons and His daughters.
20 And He saith: I hide My face from them, I see what [is] their latter end; For a froward generation [are] they, Sons in whom is no stedfastness.
21 They have made Me zealous by `no-god,` They made Me angry by their vanities; And I make them zealous by `no-people,` By a foolish nation I make them angry.
22 For a fire hath been kindled in Mine anger, And it burneth unto Sheol -- the lowest, And consumeth earth and its increase, And setteth on fire foundations of mountains.
23 I gather upon them evils, Mine arrows I consume upon them.
24 Exhausted by famine, And consumed by heat, and bitter destruction. And the teeth of beasts I send upon them, With poison of fearful things of the dust.
25 Without bereave doth the sword, And at the inner-chambers -- fear, Both youth and virgin, Suckling with man of grey hair.
26 I have said: I blow them away, I cause their remembrance to cease from man;
27 If not -- the anger of an enemy I fear, Lest their adversaries know -- Lest they say, Our hand is high, And Jehovah hath not wrought all this.
28 For a nation lost to counsels [are] they, And there is no understanding in them.
29 If they were wise -- They deal wisely [with] this; They attend to their latter end:
30 How doth one pursue a thousand, And two cause a myriad to flee! If not -- that their rock hath sold them, And Jehovah hath shut them up?
31 For not as our Rock [is] their rock, (And our enemies [are] judges!)
32 For of the vine of Sodom their vine [is], And of the fields of Gomorrah; Their grapes [are] grapes of gall -- They have bitter clusters;
33 The poison of dragons [is] their wine And the fierce venom of asps.
34 Is it not laid up with Me? Sealed among My treasures?
35 Mine [are] vengeance and recompense, At the due time -- doth their foot slide; For near is a day of their calamity, And haste do things prepared for them.
36 For Jehovah doth judge His people, And for His servants doth repent Himself. For He seeth -- the going away of power, And none is restrained and left.
37 And He hath said, Where [are] their gods -- The rock in which they trusted;
38 Which the fat of their sacrifices do eat, They drink the wine of their libation! Let them arise and help you, Let it be for you a hiding-place!
39 See ye, now, that I -- I [am] He, And there is no god with Me: I put to death, and I keep alive; I have smitten, and I heal; And there is not from My hand a deliverer,
40 For I lift up unto the heavens My hand, And have said, I live -- to the age!
41 If I have sharpened the brightness of My sword, And My hand doth lay hold on judgment, I turn back vengeance to Mine adversaries, And to those hating Me -- I repay!
42 I make drunk Mine arrows with blood, And My sword devoureth flesh, From the blood of the pierced and captive, From the head of the freemen of the enemy.
43 Sing ye nations -- [with] his people, For the blood of His servants He avengeth, And vengeance He turneth back on His adversaries, And hath pardoned His land -- His people.`
44 And Moses cometh and speaketh all the words of this song in the ears of the people, he and Hoshea son of Nun;
45 and Moses finisheth to speak all these words unto all Israel,
46 and saith unto them, `Set your heart to all the words which I am testifying against you to-day, that ye command your sons to observe to do all the words of this law,
47 for it [is] not a vain thing for you, for it [is] your life, and by this thing ye prolong days on the ground whither ye are passing over the Jordan to possess it.`
48 And Jehovah speaketh unto Moses, in this self-same day, saying,
49 `Go up unto this mount Abarim, mount Nebo, which [is] in the land of Moab, which [is] on the front of Jericho, and see the land of Canaan which I am giving to the sons of Israel for a possession;
50 and die in the mount whither thou art going up, and be gathered unto thy people, as Aaron thy brother hath died in the mount Hor, and is gathered unto his people:
51 `Because ye trespassed against me in the midst of the sons of Israel at the waters of Meribath-Kadesh, the wilderness of Zin -- because ye sanctified Me not in the midst of the sons of Israel;
52 but over-against thou seest the land, and thither thou dost not go in, unto the land which I am giving to the sons of Israel.`
