2 Samuel 5

David, King of Israel

1 All the tribes of Israel came to David at Hebron  * 5:1–3 1Ch 11:1–3 and said, "Here we are, your own flesh and blood.  * 5:1 Lit your bone and your flesh,* 5:1 Gn 29:142 Even while Saul was king over us, you were the one who led us out to battle and brought us back.  * 5:2 1Sm 18:5,12–16 The Lord also said to you, ‘You will shepherd my people Israel, and you will be ruler over Israel.’ "

3 So all the elders of Israel came to the king at Hebron. King David made a covenant with them  * 5:3 2Sm 3:12–13,21 at Hebron in the Lord’s presence, and they anointed David king over Israel.
