1 我 心 里 说 ： 来 罢 ， 我 以 喜 乐 试 试 你 ， 你 好 享 福 ！ 谁 知 ， 这 也 是 虚 空 。 2 我 指 嬉 笑 说 ： 这 是 狂 妄 。 论 喜 乐 说 ： 冇 何 功 效 呢 ？ 3 我 心 里 察 究 ， 如 何 用 酒 使 我 肉 体 舒 畅 ， 我 心 却 仍 以 智 慧 引 导 我 ； 又 如 何 持 住 愚 昧 ， 等 我 看 明 世 人 ， 在 天 下 一 生 当 行 何 事 为 美 。 4 我 为 自 己 动 大 工 程 ， 建 造 房 屋 ， 栽 种 葡 萄 园 ， 5 修 造 园 囿 ， 在 其 中 栽 种 各 样 果 木 树 ； 6 挖 造 水 池 ， 用 以 浇 灌 嫩 小 的 树 木 。 7 我 买 了 仆 婢 ， 也 冇 生 在 家 中 的 仆 婢 ； 又 冇 许 多 牛 群 羊 群 ， 胜 过 以 前 在 耶 路 撒 冷 众 人 所 冇 的 。 8 我 又 为 自 己 积 蓄 金 银 和 君 王 的 财 宝 ， 并 各 省 的 财 宝 ； 又 得 唱 歌 的 男 女 和 世 人 所 喜 爱 的 物 ， 并 许 多 的 妃 嫔 。 9 这 样 ， 我 就 日 见 昌 盛 ， 胜 过 以 前 在 耶 路 撒 冷 的 众 人 。 我 的 智 慧 仍 然 存 留 。 10 凡 我 眼 所 求 的 ， 我 没 冇 留 下 不 给 他 的 ； 我 心 所 乐 的 ， 我 没 冇 禁 止 不 享 受 的 ； 因 我 的 心 为 我 一 切 所 劳 碌 的 快 乐 ， 这 就 是 我 从 劳 碌 中 所 得 的 分 。 11 后 来 ， 我 察 看 我 手 所 经 营 的 一 切 事 和 我 劳 碌 所 成 的 功 。 谁 知 都 是 虚 空 ， 都 是 捕 风 ； 在 日 光 之 下 毫 无 益 处 。 12 我 转 念 观 看 智 慧 、 狂 妄 ， 和 愚 昧 。 在 王 以 后 而 来 的 人 还 能 做 甚 么 呢 ？ 也 不 过 行 早 先 所 行 的 就 是 了 。 13 我 便 看 出 智 慧 胜 过 愚 昧 ， 如 同 光 明 胜 过 黑 暗 。 14 智 慧 人 的 眼 目 光 明 （ 光 明 原 文 是 在 他 头 上 ） ， 愚 昧 人 在 黑 暗 里 行 。 我 却 看 明 冇 一 件 事 ， 这 两 等 人 都 必 遇 见 。 15 我 就 心 里 说 ： 愚 昧 人 所 遇 见 的 ， 我 也 必 遇 见 ， 我 为 何 更 冇 智 慧 呢 ？ 我 心 里 说 ， 这 也 是 虚 空 。 16 智 慧 人 和 愚 昧 人 一 样 ， 永 远 无 人 纪 念 ， 因 为 日 后 都 被 忘 记 ； 可 歎 智 慧 人 死 亡 ， 与 愚 昧 人 无 异 。 17 我 所 以 恨 恶 生 命 ； 因 为 在 日 光 之 下 所 行 的 事 我 都 以 为 烦 恼 ， 都 是 虚 空 ， 都 是 捕 风 。 18 我 恨 恶 一 切 的 劳 碌 ， 就 是 我 在 日 光 之 下 的 劳 碌 ， 因 为 我 得 来 的 必 留 给 我 以 后 的 人 。 19 那 人 是 智 慧 是 愚 昧 ， 谁 能 知 道 ？ 他 竟 要 管 理 我 劳 碌 所 得 的 ， 就 是 我 在 日 光 之 下 用 智 慧 所 得 的 。 这 也 是 虚 空 。 20 故 此 ， 我 转 想 我 在 日 光 之 下 所 劳 碌 的 一 切 工 作 ， 心 便 绝 望 。 21 因 为 冇 人 用 智 慧 、 知 识 、 灵 巧 所 劳 碌 得 来 的 ， 却 要 留 给 未 曾 劳 碌 的 人 为 分 . 。 这 也 是 虚 空 ， 也 是 大 患 。 22 人 在 日 光 之 下 劳 碌 累 心 ， 在 他 一 切 的 劳 碌 上 得 着 甚 么 呢 ？ 23 因 为 他 日 日 忧 虑 ， 他 的 劳 苦 成 为 愁 烦 ， 连 夜 间 心 也 不 安 。 这 也 是 虚 空 。 24 人 莫 强 如 吃 喝 ， 且 在 劳 碌 中 享 福 ， 我 看 这 也 是 出 于 　 神 的 手 。 25 论 到 吃 用 、 享 福 ， 谁 能 胜 过 我 呢 ？ 26 神 喜 悦 谁 ， 就 给 谁 智 慧 、 知 识 ， 和 喜 乐 ； 唯 冇 罪 人 ， 神 使 他 劳 苦 ， 叫 他 将 所 收 聚 的 、 所 堆 积 的 归 给 　 神 所 喜 悦 的 人 。 这 也 是 虚 空 ， 也 是 捕 风 。

1 I said in my heart, `Pray, come, I try thee with mirth, and look thou on gladness;` and lo, even it [is] vanity.2 Of laughter I said, `Foolish!` and of mirth, `What [is] this it is doing?`3 I have sought in my heart to draw out with wine my appetite, (and my heart leading in wisdom), and to take hold on folly till that I see where [is] this -- the good to the sons of man of that which they do under the heavens, the number of the days of their lives.4 I made great my works, I builded for me houses, I planted for me vineyards.5 I made for me gardens and paradises, and I planted in them trees of every fruit.6 I made for me pools of water, to water from them a forest shooting forth trees.7 I got men-servants, and maid-servants, and sons of the house were to me; also, I had much substance -- herd and flock -- above all who had been before me in Jerusalem.8 I gathered for me also silver and gold, and the peculiar treasure of kings and of the provinces. I prepared for me men-singers and women-singers, and the luxuries of the sons of man -- a wife and wives.9 And I became great, and increased above every one who had been before me in Jerusalem; also, my wisdom stood with me.10 And all that mine eyes asked I kept not back from them; I withheld not my heart from any joy, for my heart rejoiced because of all my labour, and this hath been my portion, from all my labour,11 and I have looked on all my works that my hands have done, and on the labour that I have laboured to do, and lo, the whole [is] vanity and vexation of spirit, and there is no advantage under the sun!12 And I turned to see wisdom, and madness, and folly, but what [is] the man who cometh after the king? that which [is] already -- they have done it!13 And I saw that there is an advantage to wisdom above folly, like the advantage of the light above the darkness.14 The wise! -- his eyes [are] in his head, and the fool in darkness is walking, and I also knew that one event happeneth with them all;15 and I said in my heart, `As it happeneth with the fool, it happeneth also with me, and why am I then more wise?` And I spake in my heart, that also this [is] vanity:16 That there is no remembrance to the wise -- with the fool -- to the age, for that which [is] already, [in] the days that are coming is all forgotten, and how dieth the wise? with the fool!17 And I have hated life, for sad to me [is] the work that hath been done under the sun, for the whole [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.18 And I have hated all my labour that I labour at under the sun, because I leave it to a man who is after me.19 And who knoweth whether he is wise or foolish? yet he doth rule over all my labour that I have laboured at, and that I have done wisely under the sun! this also [is] vanity.20 And I turned round to cause my heart to despair concerning all the labour that I laboured at under the sun.21 For there is a man whose labour [is] in wisdom, and in knowledge, and in equity, and to a man who hath not laboured therein he giveth it -- his portion! Even this [is] vanity and a great evil.22 For what hath been to a man by all his labour, and by the thought of his heart that he laboured at under the sun?23 For all his days are sorrows, and his travail sadness; even at night his heart hath not lain down; this also [is] vanity.24 There is nothing good in a man who eateth, and hath drunk, and hath shewn his soul good in his labour. This also I have seen that it [is] from the hand of God.25 For who eateth and who hasteth out more than I?26 For to a man who [is] good before Him, He hath given wisdom, and knowledge, and joy; and to a sinner He hath given travail, to gather and to heap up, to give to the good before God. Even this [is] vanity and vexation of spirit.
