1 Timóteo 4

1 But the Spirit speaks expressly, that in latter times some shall apostatise from the faith, giving their mind to deceiving spirits and teachings of demons 2 speaking lies in hypocrisy, cauterised as to their own conscience, 3 forbidding to marry, bidding to abstain from meats, which God has created for receiving with thanksgiving for them who are faithful and know the truth. 4 For every creature of God is good, and nothing is to be rejected, being received with thanksgiving; 5 for it is sanctified by God’s word and freely addressing him.

6 Laying these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished with the words of the faith and of the good teaching which thou hast fully followed up. 7 But profane and old wives' fables avoid, but exercise thyself unto piety; 8 for bodily exercise is profitable for a little, but piety is profitable for everything, having promise of life, of the present one, and of that to come. 9 The word is faithful and worthy of all acceptation; 10 for, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe. 11 Enjoin and teach these things. 12 Let no one despise thy youth, but be a model of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity. 13 Till I come, give thyself to reading, to exhortation, to teaching. 14 Be not negligent of the gift that is in thee, which has been given to thee through prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the elderhood. 15 Occupy thyself with these things; be wholly in them, that thy progress may be manifest to all. 16 Give heed to thyself and to the teaching; continue in them; for, doing this, thou shalt save both thyself and those that hear thee.

2 Que con hipocresía hablarán mentira, ✝4.2 Ef. 4.19.teniendo cauterizada la conciencia.

4 Porque ✝4.4 Gn. 1.31.todo lo que Dios crió es bueno, y nada hay que desechar, tomándose con hacimiento de gracias:

5 Porque por la palabra de Dios y por la oración es santificado.

6 Si esto propusieres á los hermanos, serás buen ministro de Jesucristo, criado en las palabras de la fe y de ✝4.6 ver. 13la buena doctrina, la cual has ✝4.6 2 Ti. 3.10.alcanzado.

7 Mas las ✝4.7 cp. 1.4.fábulas profanas y de viejas ✝4.7 2 Ti. 2.23.desecha, y ejercítate para la piedad.

8 Porque el ejercicio corporal para poco es provechoso; mas la piedad para todo aprovecha, ✝4.8 Mt. 6.33.pues tiene promesa de esta vida presente, y de la venidera.

9 Palabra fiel es esta, ✝4.9 cp. 1.15.y digna de ser recibida de todos.

10 Que por esto aun trabajamos y sufrimos oprobios, porque ✝4.10 cp. 6.17.esperamos en el Dios viviente, el cual es ✝4.10 1 Jn. 4.14.Salvador de todos los hombres, mayormente de los que creen.

11 Esto manda y enseña.

12 Ninguno ✝4.12 1 Co. 16.11.tenga en poco tu juventud; pero sé ejemplo de los fieles en palabra, en ✝4.12 Ga. 1.13.conversación, en caridad, en espíritu, en fe, en ✝4.12 cp. 5.2.limpieza.

13 Entre tanto que voy, ocúpate en leer, en ✝4.13 Hch. 13.15.exhortar, en ✝4.13 cp. 5.17.enseñar.

14 No descuides el don ✝4.14 2 Ti. 1.6.que está en ti, que te es dado ✝4.14 cp. 1.18.por profecía ✝4.14 cp. 5.22.con la imposición de las manos del ✝4.14 Hch. 20.27. cp. 5.17presbiterio.

15 Medita estas cosas; ocúpate en ellas; para que tu aprovechamiento sea manifiesto á todos.

16 Ten cuidado de ti mismo y de la doctrina; persiste en ello; pues haciendo esto, á ti mismo salvarás y á los que te oyeren.
