2 Samuel 15

1 And it came to pass after this, that Absalom prepared for himself chariots and horses, and fifty men to run before him. 2 And Absalom rose early, and stood beside the way of the gate; and it was so, that when any man who had a controversy had to come to the king for judgment, then Absalom called him, and said, Of what city art thou? And he said, Thy servant is of one of the tribes of Israel. 3 And Absalom said to him, See, thy matters are good and right; but there is no man to hear thee appointed by the king. 4 And Absalom said, Oh that I were made judge in the land, that every man who has any controversy and cause might come to me, and I would do him justice! 5 And it was so, that when any man came near to do him obeisance, he put forth his hand, and took him, and kissed him. 6 And in this manner did Absalom to all Israel that came to the king for judgment; and Absalom stole the hearts of the men of Israel.

7 And it came to pass at the end of forty years, that Absalom said to the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay in Hebron my vow which I have vowed to Jehovah. 8 For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode in Geshur in Syria, saying, If Jehovah shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve Jehovah. 9 And the king said to him, Go in peace. And he rose up and went to Hebron. 10 And Absalom sent emissaries into all the tribes of Israel, saying, When ye hear the sound of the trumpet, ye shall say, Absalom reigns in Hebron. 11 And with Absalom went two hundred men out of Jerusalem, that were invited; and they went in their simplicity, and they knew nothing. 12 And Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s counsellor, from his city, from Giloh, while he offered the sacrifices. And the conspiracy gathered strength; and the people increased continually with Absalom.

13 And there came one to David who reported saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom. 14 And David said to all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Rise up and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom. Be quick to depart, lest he overtake us quickly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword. 15 And the king’s servants said to the king, Behold, thy servants will do whatever my lord the king shall choose. 16 And the king went forth, and all his household after him, and the king left ten women, concubines, to keep the house. 17 And the king went forth, and all the people after him, and stayed at the remote house. 18 And all his servants passed on beside him; and all the Cherethites, and all the Pelethites, and all the Gittites, six hundred men that came after him from Gath, passed over before the king. 19 And the king said to Ittai the Gittite, Why dost thou also go with us? return to thy place, and abide with the king; for thou art a foreigner, and besides, thou hast emigrated to the place where thou dwellest. 20 Thou didst come yesterday, and should I this day make thee go up and down with us, seeing I go whither I can? Return and take back thy brethren. Mercy and truth be with thee! 21 And Ittai answered the king and said, As Jehovah liveth, and as my lord the king liveth, surely in what place my lord the king shall be, whether in death or life, even there also will thy servant be. 22 And David said to Ittai, Go and pass over. And Ittai the Gittite passed over, and all his men, and all the little ones that were with him. 23 And all the country wept with a loud voice, and all the people passed over; the king also himself passed over the torrent Kidron, and all the people passed over, towards the way of the wilderness.

24 And behold, Zadok also, and all the Levites with him, bearing the ark of the covenant of God*GodHebrew: Elohim and they set down the ark of God*GodHebrew: Elohim and Abiathar went up, until all the people had passed completely out of the city. 25 And the king said to Zadok, Carry back the ark of God*GodHebrew: Elohim into the city. If I shall find favour in the eyes of Jehovah, he will bring me again, and shew me it, and its habitation. 26 But if he thus say, I have no delight in thee; behold, here am I, let him do to me as seemeth good to him. 27 And the king said to Zadok the priest, Thou art the seer: return into the city in peace, and your two sons with you, Ahimaaz thy son, and Jonathan the son of Abiathar. 28 See, I will stop in the plains of the desert, until there come word from you to inform me. 29 And Zadok and Abiathar carried the ark of God*GodHebrew: Elohim again to Jerusalem; and they abode there. 30 But David went up by the ascent of the Olives, and wept as he went up, and had his head covered, and he went barefoot; and all the people that was with him covered every man his head, and they went up, weeping as they went up.

31 And one told David saying, Ahithophel is among the conspirators with Absalom. Then said David, Jehovah, I pray thee, turn the counsel of Ahithophel into foolishness. 32 And it came to pass, when David had come to the summit, where he worshipped God*GodHebrew: Elohim that behold, Hushai the Archite came to meet him with his coat rent, and earth upon his head. 33 And David said to him, If thou passest on with me, thou wilt be a burden to me; 34 but if thou return to the city, and say to Absalom, I will be thy servant, O king; as I have been thy father’s servant hitherto, so now will I be thy servant; then mayest thou for me defeat the counsel of Ahithophel. 35 And hast thou not there with thee Zadok and Abiathar the priests? and it shall be, that whatsoever thing thou shalt hear out of the king’s house, thou shalt tell it to Zadok and Abiathar the priests. 36 Behold, they have there with them their two sons, Ahimaaz Zadok’s son, and Jonathan Abiathar’s son; and by them ye shall send to me everything that ye shall hear. 37 And Hushai David’s friend came into the city, and Absalom came into Jerusalem.

1 ACONTECIÓ después de esto, que Absalom se ✝15.1 1 R. 1.5.hizo de carros y caballos, y cincuenta hombres que corriesen delante de él.

2 Y levantábase Absalom de mañana, y poníase á un lado del camino de la puerta; y á cualquiera que tenía pleito y venía al rey á juicio, Absalom le llamaba á sí, y decíale: ¿De qué ciudad eres? Y él respondía: Tu siervo es de una de las tribus de Israel.

3 Entonces Absalom le decía: Mira, tus palabras son buenas y justas: mas no tienes quien te oiga por el rey.

4 Y decía Absalom: ¡Quién me pusiera por juez en la tierra, para que viniesen á mí todos los que tienen pleito ó negocio, que yo les haría justicia!

5 Y acontecía que, cuando alguno se llegaba para inclinarse á él, él extendía su mano, y lo tomaba, y lo besaba.

6 Y de esta manera hacía con todo Israel que venía al rey á juicio: y así robaba Absalom el corazón de los de Israel.

7 Y al cabo de cuarenta años aconteció que Absalom dijo al rey: Yo te ruego me permitas que vaya á Hebrón, á pagar mi voto que he prometido á Jehová:

8 Porque tu siervo hizo ✝15.8 Gn. 28.20,21.voto cuando ✝15.8 cp. 13.38.estaba en Gessur en Siria, diciendo: Si Jehová me volviere á Jerusalem, yo serviré á Jehová.

1 David sale de Jerusalem

2 huyendo de Absalom.

9 Y el rey dijo: ✝15.9 1 S. 1.17.Ve en paz. Y él se levantó, y se fué á Hebrón.

10 Empero envió Absalom espías por todas las tribus de Israel, diciendo: Cuando oyereis el sonido de la trompeta, diréis: Absalom reina en Hebrón.

11 Y fueron con Absalom doscientos hombres de Jerusalem ✝15.11 1 S. 16.3,5.por él convidados, los cuales iban en su sencillez, sin saber nada.

12 También envió Absalom por ✝15.12 ver. 31|2SA 15:31. cp. 16.20 y 17.1,14,23 y 23.34.Achitophel Gilonita, ✝15.12 Sal. 41.9 y 55.12,13,14.del consejo de David, á Gilo su ciudad, mientras hacía sus sacrificios. Y la conjuración vino á ser grande, pues se iba aumentando el pueblo con Absalom.

13 Y vino el aviso á David, diciendo: ✝15.13 ver. 6. Jue. 9.3.El corazón de todo Israel va tras Absalom.

14 Entonces David dijo á todos sus siervos que estaban con él en Jerusalem: Levantaos ✝15.14 cp. 19.9. Sal. 3. tít.y huyamos, porque no podremos escapar delante de Absalom; daos priesa á partir, no sea que apresurándose él nos alcance, y arroje el mal sobre nosotros, y hiera la ciudad á filo de espada.

15 Y los siervos del rey dijeron al rey: He aquí, tus siervos están prestos á todo lo que nuestro señor el rey eligiere.

16 El rey entonces salió, con toda su familia en pos de él. Y dejó el rey ✝15.16 cp. 16.21,22.diez mujeres concubinas, para que guardasen la casa.

17 Salió pues el rey con todo el pueblo que le seguía, y paráronse en un lugar distante.

18 Y todos sus siervos pasaban á su lado, con todos los ✝15.18 1 S. 30.14.Ceretheos y ✝15.18 cp. 8.18.Peletheos; y todos los Getheos, seiscientos hombres que habían venido á pie desde ✝15.18 1 S. 17.4 y 27.2.Gath, iban delante del rey.

19 Y dijo el rey á ✝15.19 cp. 18.2.Ittai Getheo: ¿Para qué vienes tú también con nosotros? vuélvete y quédate con el rey; porque tú eres extranjero, y desterrado también de tu lugar.

20 ¿Ayer viniste, y téngote de hacer hoy que mudes lugar para ir con nosotros? Yo ✝15.20 1 S. 23.13.voy como voy: tú vuélvete, y haz volver á tus hermanos; en ti haya misericordia y verdad.

21 Y respondió Ittai al rey, diciendo: ✝15.21 Rt. 1.16,17 y 3.13.Vive Dios, y vive mi señor el rey, que, ó para muerte ó para vida, donde mi señor el rey estuviere, allí estará también tu siervo.

22 Entonces David dijo á Ittai: Ven pues, y pasa. Y pasó Ittai Getheo, y todos sus hombres, y toda su familia.

23 Y todo el país lloró en alta voz; pasó luego toda la gente el ✝15.23 1 R. 2.37 y 15.13. 2 R. 23.4,6,12. 2 Cr. 15.16 y 29.16 y 30.14. Jer. 31.40. Jn. 18.1.torrente de Cedrón; asimismo pasó el rey, y todo el pueblo pasó, al camino que va al ✝15.23 ver. 28|2SA 15:28. cp. 16.2.desierto.

24 Y he aquí, también iba ✝15.24 cp. 8.17 y 20.25. 1 R. 4.4.Sadoc, y con él todos los Levitas que llevaban el arca del pacto de Dios; y asentaron el arca del pacto de Dios. Y subió ✝15.24 1 S. 22.20 y 23.6,9. cp. 20.25. 1 R. 4.4.Abiathar después que hubo acabado de salir de la ciudad todo el pueblo.

25 Pero dijo el rey á Sadoc: Vuelve el arca de Dios á la ciudad; que si yo hallare gracia en los ojos de Jehová, él ✝15.25 Sal. 43.3.me volverá, y me hará ver á ella y á ✝15.25 Ex. 15.13. Jer. 25.30.su tabernáculo:

26 Y si dijere: No me ✝15.26 cp. 22.20. 1 R. 10.9.agradas: aquí estoy, haga de mí lo que bien le pareciere.

27 Dijo aún el rey á Sadoc sacerdote: ¿No eres tú ✝15.27 1 S. 9.9.el vidente? Vuélvete en paz á la ciudad; y con vosotros ✝15.27 ver. 36|2SA 15:36. cp. 17.17 y 18.19,27.vuestros dos hijos, tu hijo Ahimaas, y Jonathán hijo de Abiathar.

28 Mirad, yo me detendré ✝15.28 Jos. 5.10. cp. 2.29 y 17.16,29. 2 R. 25.4,5.en los campos del desierto, hasta que venga respuesta de vosotros que me dé aviso.

29 Entonces Sadoc y Abiathar volvieron el arca de Dios á Jerusalem; y estuviéronse allá.

30 Y David subió la cuesta de las olivas; y subió la llorando, ✝15.30 cp. 19.4. Est. 6.12. Jer. 14.3,4.llevando la cabeza cubierta, y los pies ✝15.30 Is. 20.2,4.descalzos. También todo el pueblo que tenía consigo cubrió cada uno su cabeza, y subieron llorando así como subían.

31 Y dieron aviso á David, diciendo: Achitophel está entre los que conspiraron con Absalom. Entonces dijo ✝15.31 cp. 16.23 y 17.14,23.David: Entontece ahora, oh Jehová, el consejo de Achitophel.

1 Husai enviado á la ciudad.

2 Semei maldice á David.

32 Y como David llegó á la cumbre del monte para adorar allí á Dios, he aquí Husai ✝15.32 Jos. 16.2.Arachîta que le salió al encuentro, trayendo ✝15.32 cp. 1.2.rota su ropa, y tierra sobre su cabeza.

33 Y díjole David: Si pasares conmigo, ✝15.33 cp. 19.35.serme has de carga;

34 Mas si volvieres á la ciudad, y dijeres á Absalom: Rey, ✝15.34 cp. 16.19.yo seré tu siervo; como hasta aquí he sido siervo de tu padre, así seré ahora siervo tuyo, entonces tú me disiparás el consejo de Achitophel.

35 ¿No estarán allí contigo Sadoc y Abiathar sacerdotes? Por tanto, todo lo que oyeres en la casa del rey, darás ✝15.35 cp. 17.15,16.aviso de ello á Sadoc y á Abiathar sacerdotes.

36 Y he aquí que están ✝15.36 ver. 27con ellos sus dos hijos, Ahimaas el de Sadoc, y Jonathán el de Abiathar: por mano de ellos me enviaréis aviso de todo lo que oyereis.

37 Así se vino Husai ✝15.37 cp. 16.16. 1 Cr. 27.33.amigo de David á la ciudad; y Absalom entró en Jerusalem.
